So I set the deck aside and made 3-5 other commander decks over the next few years.. But after a couple years I missed my buddies(slivers) and I decided to dust the deck off and try and rebuild it. I wanted it to still be winnable but maybe a little more interactive and less combo and straight beat down focused so that you had a slightly different game each time you played the deck. Also I sold off my sliver queen and silver legion so that is why you won't see it in my build and I'm not spending the money to rebuy them at the moment.
So now the deck is built in a way that I don't instantly become the archenemy at the table and sometimes even fly in under the radar until its too late for the table to realize. Now it helps that only 1 guy from my original group saw the deck in its top form. And its played a little differently each time so I don't think it gets the hate that tuned overlord decks get or decks with 1 linear powerful plan have. Also I search for alot of slivers but down usually play my hand out.. Sometimes I just sit back and let the other plp pick each other apart until its down to a 1v1 or 1v2 situation.. EDH IS ALL ABOUT POLITICS
So here we are.. Basically this is a
“sliver toolbox deck with a changeling side theme”
Now again my playgroup is semi casual group of about 10 rotating guys. Usually our decks are about 6/10 on the competitive scale and budgets of most decks don't go above $200 on a deck.. Most plp in my group don't have more than 1 or 2 optimal pain fetch lands in their decks if that tells you anything. Now I was lucky and got most of these pieces back in the day or when they were reasonable and didn't shoot up to $40 like paradox engine just did haha so even though this deck is worth a lot more today it didn't cost me that much to build.
Main goal of the deck
So I want to get 5 different colors of mana out by turn 5 and cast overlord and then turn 6 I am searching up whatever slivers I need. I put the slivers in my deck list by order of how I usually search them up by in a game but this obviously changes each game depending what the board state is.. But these first few slivers are usually always useful
I usually always search up Crystalline sliver but do NOT cast her right away as she would hurt my changeling plan or any of my slivers that say TARGET..
Yes if I cast her it would prob be an automatic win but there is no fun in that I want to keep playing the game out and interact with my friends.. So I save her for later..
So If I don't have a changeling in my hand I usually search up amoeboid changeling and start having fun by stealing people commanders or other strong creatures that are annoying the table. Sometimes even asking the table "ok who is the biggest threat" what person should I play puppet with. which makes it fun for table and takes the heat off of me
Now you may be thinking "what the heck" if I saw a guy who had indestructible, flying creatures and can just steal whatever he wants I would surely attack him. Well I'm not saying my group is the best at threat assessment but also EDH is VERY political. And I'm a nice easy going guy and very good at deception so I can usually talk my way into making it seem like I'm not that strong at the moment. But again your mileage may very depending on your group.
Anyway back to the deck. One of my favorite plays is getting dormant sliver out and then that really takes the heat off me. I mean” heck guys I can't even attack you” is what I usually say.. So I then sit back and draw into some stuff and then I search up necrotic sliver for when the time is right and play him and kill off dormant sliver and usually swing in for a kill.. Def a fun way to play and throws plp off the first time they see it.. And honestly I play this deck with so much time in-between that plp can totally forget that play.
This isn't new information I know.. But This sliver deck is such a tool box I love it.. What can we play against that we can't find an answer for I mean I have hibernation sliver and frenetic sliver as semi board wipe protection.
I've got “regenerate” and “lifelink” slivers, “deathtouch” and so much more.
Some of the niche slivers I love are shifting sliver in case my opponent has indestructible flyers as well. bonescythe sliver if I need to deal lots of damage to a lifelinker player. quick sliver to flash slivers into play. virulent sliver if I want to go “infect" route. And leeching sliver for opponents who have hexproof or some other way of preventing combat or direct damage.
Now not every time things go my way and I win. Sometimes I get attacked to much if everyone else's decks are playing slow and I'm the ONLY person doing much or my slivers get countered so I can never get my deck off the ground. But more times than not I pull out the win. Also I don't play this deck everytime my group gets together.. I usually only pull it out when someone won't shut up about how great their deck is haha
Deck advice
What do you see in the deck I should maybe add or remove?
… a lot of things are meta dependant but luckily there isn't many -1/-1 board wipes (as a lot of my groups decks make tokens themselves so they don't want to wipe themselves out as well)
So that is why I haven't included any of the +1/+1 slivers outside of sedge sliver as he has more than one use.. I just don't find the need to pump my slivers up with all the other good effects I can give them. Though I do have door of destinies in my deck.
One thing I am unsure if is if I need to remove my duplicates of slivers.. Like I have both" flying” slivers and both “lifelink” slivers (which I did read in your primer as being stackable due to the wording which is a awesome little nugget from the primer) both “haste” slivers both “first strike” slivers but this is still a sliver deck so I've decided to leave them in and also it has the added benefit of just shrugging it off if one of them gets countered as I can just search up the other one. Also I don't know what else I would put in place of them as I want this to be a sliver/changeling deck but that is still in the realm of possibilities
The slivers I search up the least are the “Haste” slivers or the “first strike” slivers.. As I'm NOT going full on aggro sliver tactic where I need to attack NOW.. But they are still in there as it's nice to be able to do things right away if I need to. But I'm more of a set back and search up what I need and play a little more defensive and look weakish. This helps me not draw unwanted attention to myself. So I'm def up to removing some slivers but also this is a sliver deck and I love the little guys.
The “Regenerate” slivers and venom sliver and bonescythe sliver are also some of my least searched slivers as I don't seem to need them usually but still have them in their incase something I needed gets countered and need a backup plan.
So the only things that I really see I might need more of is some card draw, protection for my overlord and maybe some more graveyard recursion in case of board wipes or multiple counters.. I have never had a problem with mana but I guess you could argue If I have access to green I could use some more ramp cards like skyshroud claim or shard convergence or others.
So anything you see that you would remove or tinker with?? Love any advice you can give
Cards i'm thinking about adding
So my budget isn't that big and honestly I don't buy cards outside of fetch lands that aren't less than like $8 a pop usually.. So I know there are some sweet card's I could add but I'm not into adding $40+ cards for 2 reasons.. My finances and secondly I don't want to make decks that aren't fun for my play group and uber powerful.. I wanna make decks that wins but also not make them so powerful my playgroup will never have fun when I set down to the table. I mean I love winning like the next guy does but not EVERY single time.. Maybe just 8 out of 10 times haha.
But here are some cards $10 and below that I have considered. root sliver I actually own this card but haven't fit it in my build.. Might be a good one to include Toxin sliver basically another “deathtouch” sliver Synapse Sliver for some added card draw Vanquisher's Banner for some card draw and a little buff never hurt Journey to Eternity protection for my commander and a little ramp afterwords Beast whisper card draw
Any other cards that you might think to add to fill any gaps?
Oh last thing.. My group bans infinite combos.. So I never try to include those in my deck. I know paradox engine can get out of hand fast but also I can choose to not cast a spell.
Well thanks to all who have taken the time to read this.. Not sure how helpful this was to anyone.. But thought I would share my budget version of a sliver deck that doesn't just get hated as soon as they see sliver overlord. And a deck that you can sit down at a table of friends and all have fun with.. Because that's why I play mtg.. It's just meant to be a fun time hanging out with friends and enjoying seeing the unique decks that everyone brews.
*The Queen bows her head slowly, impressed* Now here's a dedicated servant of the Hive
The one reason for which I'm going to feature your list on the primer is because it's kitchen table Magic. A deck fit for social gaming. And, my friend, that's great.
You seem to know your deck well enough. I'm kind of afraid to give much advice, because most of the additions I'd suggest could have the unintended effect of boosting the power of your list beyond KTM. I think Vanquisher's Banner and Beast Whisperer are the most worthwile picks out of the list you mentioned last. Synapse Sliver has proved to be a lightning rod, and the fact that its ability procs via combat damage reduces its flexibility somewhat. Toxin Sliver is rather weak in my book for the same reason.
There are some qualities your swarm definitely needs - haste, flying, lifelink and mana. Duplication in those cases won't hurt. First strike and double strike overlap so pick one of each.

Wow.. No way.. I feel super honored.. In no way did I ever think that would happen.. That is so awesome!!
And thanks for the 2 suggestions.. Yeah I want to make the deck alittle more optimized but not so optimized that it hurts the playability of my deck with the group I'm in at the moment.. I think both those suggestions are spot on. And thanks for the advice on the 2 slivers I asked about.. I'll prob leave those out.
Is there any other slivers you really love in your deck that I may of left out,?
Thanks again and I feel proud to be a part of this sliver thread.. I love slivers so this is so awesome
I tend to run far fewer slivers than most do. I only run one pump Sliver (Legion), and very few keyword slivers. Flying and Haste are all my build really wants.
I need to play it again and maybe swap a few things. Need a Herald's horn in there for sure.

but im like 99% sure we gonna end up with a "slivers you control have hexproof" wether crystalline sliver is reprinted or not

Scroll Rack. As someone who has played their fair share of Maelstrom Wanderer, the best thing to do with with cascade is to control what gets cascaded. The First Sliver though is a brand new escalation that surpasses the Wanderer because after the First Sliver resolves, Each Sliver you cast after that will get you a new Cascade trigger, including the ones you cast off cascade. For example, the new Changling Lord could cascade into up to seven slivers, depending on how you stack the deck (hopefully through legal mechanics within the game).

I was thinking Dregscape Sliver is nothing short of awesome because it can potentially turn your graveyard into an extension of your hand. I wonder what would make you think it's subpar.
I was thinking Dregscape Sliver is nothing short of awesome because it can potentially turn your graveyard into an extension of your hand. I wonder what would make you think it's subpar.
For me, it conflicts with graveyard shenanigans like Patriarch's Bidding or Living Death. What that informs then is that it's only going to find its way to the field on the turn you plan to win, likely through a combo or an Alpha strike... if you're playing combo, hiding your combo slivers in the graveyard feels unnecessary when Sliver Overlord exists. If you're alpha striking from the graveyard, Patriarch's bidding seems less risky overall because Spore Frog blows out Dregscape Sliver. Honestly, I think I'd rather Sun Titan because at least Sun Titan can loop Necrotic Sliver.
Ultimately, it doesn't feel subpar despite my misgivings in the previous paragraph; it feels too narrow for the Sliver style I go for, which is tempo. I think combo oriented sliver decks will take an interest in this because those decks don't care how their slivers get on the battlefield, so long as they end up on the field long enough to win. One aside I could be wrong because I will admit part of this is I've just never liked unearth, so reading "Unearth" is not that exciting on Slivers.
For me Dregscape Sliver is the best of four, cause none other sliver allows you play with graveyard before. You can unearth and flip a coin with your Frenetic Sliver to get 50/50 chance of recover that sliver permanently. For two colorless mana. You can resurrect your whole graveyard for a final strike with some kind of Mana echoes. Yes, thanks!
My expectacions for new slivers:
- Some kind of Zombify sliver. Check
-One for graveyard hate, some kind of Carrion Imp or Deathgorge Scavenger effect. My meta is graveyard heavy-based, and I miss some kind of Bojuka Sliver
-Hexproof sliver would be nice at 1UG, would be awesome at UG
Oh, and I am really happy to see that they return to traditional non-humanoid slivers. Those were a shame for the hive.
Note that these are, according to the source, just some of all the slivers to be released on Modern Horizons. What other surprises are in store, I wonder?

Food Chain, if you want to go for a super dedicated, cEDH style of deck.

Food Chain, if you want to go for a super dedicated, cEDH style of deck.
Honestly, I kind of feel my shortcomings as a Magic player now. (Not to say my stupidity.) I saw Food Chain mentioned on several Facebook groups as an awesome card to synergize with The First Sliver, and we were discussing this card with my brother -who has much broader experience than I do-, and still I couldn't grasp why it's supposed to work so well. I mean, I can't really see past the resource boon thing. Cascade, more often than not, will mean free permanents in my case, most of which will be critters I can exile for mana with this card, and the Hive is always mana-starved. But for the love of the Queen, I can't factor it into any awesome plays on the same way I do with Mana Echoes or Intruder Alert.
No worries. The basic idea of Food Chain Sliver is that you run the Food Chain creatures (Misthollow Griffin, Eternal Scourge, and Squee, the Immortal) alongside Food Chain to create infinite colored mana for creatures. Then, you cast The First Sliver until you cascade your whole deck. cEDH decks have complicated loops in order to win the game, but I really like how simple Firebelly Sliver is as an outlet. Alternatively, you could play a whole bunch of Slivers, give them all haste, and then overrun them with theSliver Legion (which is now a $100+ card?!) after functionally drawing your deck.
It's super reliant on protecting Food Chain though and it's kind of a one-trick pony. While I doubt that most Sliver players will do this, it's still worth at least mentioning for the purposes of your Primer!
Good night servants of the Hive! I have used this post for the last years silently, but I feel it's time to step out of the shadows into the light.
Firstly, my sincere thanks to all of you.
I had this crazy idea of making a sliver EDH when I first heard of the format since I had an Overlord and always wanted to play slivers. I needed only one of each, that's good! It took me down the road where I now own every sliver released (thankfully got my queen 5 years ago, alongside my legion... Boy, they climbed up on prices since then!).
By the way, thanks to you, my oldest and dearest EDH deck has acquired a most despicable reputation, stirring fear in the hearts of my enemies, as it should be.
I see we are all excited with the new slivers (finally!), but I was thinking of walkers. Have you tried any of them, we got a lot of them, and I am kinda excited with it, and which would serve nicely the Queen. But also, what would I take out to make place?
*The Queen regards the newcomer benignly and bids him come closer with a gesture of her claws*
You've kind of hit upon an issue. I must admit I haven't really devoted that question the attention it requires. I am using Ugin, the Spirit Dragon myself as a board wipe that synergizes nicely with Ghostflame Sliver - a combination that performed as expected last night Other than him, right now I'm not packing anything.
I get the feeling walkers right now should be meant as solutions that either mitigate a weakness on your deck or that boost in a significant manner what it already does well. I find that the different incarnations of Vivien Reid actually do great.
In any case, this merits an updating of the proper section on the primer. I'll get to work on it. I could use whatever input you guys have to share on the matter.

root sliver I actually own this card but haven't fit it in my build.. Might be a good one to include
Toxin sliver basically another “deathtouch” sliver
Synapse Sliver for some added card draw
Vanquisher's Banner for some card draw and a little buff never hurt
Journey to Eternity protection for my commander and a little ramp afterwords
Beast whisper card draw

I need to play it again and maybe swap a few things. Need a Herald's horn in there for sure.

Yep, saw it. And there was much rejoicing.
Note that these are, according to the source, just some of all the slivers to be released on Modern Horizons. What other surprises are in store, I wonder?
And while we're at it, what awesome synergies do you guys see for The First Sliver?

me too can't wait to see what we get
but im like 99% sure we gonna end up with a "slivers you control have hexproof" wether crystalline sliver is reprinted or not
Were that to happen, it would fulfill one of my two dreams for slivers - the other being one that gave them infect. (Bite me. )

I was thinking Dregscape Sliver is nothing short of awesome because it can potentially turn your graveyard into an extension of your hand. I wonder what would make you think it's subpar.

My expectacions for new slivers:
- S
ome kind of Zombify sliver.Check-One for graveyard hate, some kind of Carrion Imp or Deathgorge Scavenger effect.
Food Chain, if you want to go for a super dedicated, cEDH style of deck.

BUG [Primer]-Tasigur, the Golden Fang

I generally like to keep my cards. Never liked Unearth much.

It's super reliant on protecting Food Chain though and it's kind of a one-trick pony. While I doubt that most Sliver players will do this, it's still worth at least mentioning for the purposes of your Primer!

Nothing specially powerfull for me, but it could be great for pseudo-vigilance or abuse to other nasty slivers like Magma Sliver, Telekinetic Sliver, Psionic Sliver o Dementia Sliver (Or Amoeboid Changeling)
