Faces of the Past + Gemhide Sliver + Sac outlet = I sac a sliver to untap all other slivers, tutor for some more and keep doing it, if the Sliver Queen is on the table, its infinite mana + slivers.
SInce the deck tries to combo out, Abolisher helps protect my turn xD, but I think I might take him out, Kiora's Follower can both ramp and combo for me, I can untap Bloom Tender to generate 10 mana, or Yisan to tutor again, and if none of that is on the table, untapping a land is pretty good also.
Braid of Fire is Fun xD, it lets me tutor for free at my upkeep. (since mana burn is out, it became a huge mana card xd)
@nykspree: okay, a promise is a promise... again, lots of unfamiliar picks here. I like it!
Wow, the things I could do with Bident of Thassa! The passive ability is cute, but the activated one is a steal. You can use it to kill many useful critters with poor combat potential that way - or force their owner to spend resources to protect them. How come I didn't consider that before?
Grave Pact is something I did consider, but the very specific cost has kept me from actually packing it. Of course, that's why you have stuff like Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers, but you don't bet on having them all the time. Still, the carnage you can wreak with it...
I used to run Privileged Position in the early builds of the combo deck, but I ended up ditching it because it actually encouraged the opposition to blow up my stuff. Maybe your pod isn't as trollish?
Spectral Searchlight is something I'm definitely going to fish for in my commons box. Good for fixing and politics!
Treasury Thrull was a total surprise and an enabler for all kinds of naughty given deeper thought. *Approving chitter*
Bident of Thassa is great! Especially with all the forms of evasion our Slivers can get. The passive ability definitely can cause some wreckage on those opponents who want to just hang back with their creatures.
I'm not 100% sold on Grave Pact yet and it might hit the chopping block. I haven't really had enough testing with it yet, but when it's out there and you start sac'ing slivers to [[Basal Sliver]], or any other sac enabler, it really shines.
Treasury Thrull is a champ! I was using Sun Titan, but he just didn't feel right in a Sliver deck to me. The Thrull gets back any cmc artifact, creature, or enchantment (extort is nice too) and he can easily become one with the Hive via Unnatural Selection to reap all the benefits of the swarm
Hey I was wondering how good bring to light is in this deck? so far I've seen it included in a lot of deck lists in the last couple of pages but I wanted to know which cards people tend to look for or if its entirely situational
Also, This is a noob question, but I've been out of EDH for awhile now, but I was wondering what formal the duel commander ban list is for? is it for 1v1 specifically? or EDH multiplayer? etc etc thanks in advance!
PS treasury thrull seems LOLs and I feel like trying to find room to include him in my build, Just wondering if he always dies before he gets to swing in for it's ability to trigger. Bident of thassa seems dopes too

You just gotta set him up to make sure he isn't being removed Make him a part of your Hive with Unnatural Selection and give him all the benefits of being a Sliver! Hivestone also works wonders for that. I've been thinking of trying out Alesha, Who Smiles at Death because so many of our Slivers are power 2 or less.
CruxMDQ- or anyone... pertaining to edh sliver decks:
1. What do you think about Spirit of Resistance in a 5color sliver deck?
3. Also as one of the lands Vesuva? This would be a more versatile evolving wilds, a potential stripe mine or destroyer of legendary lands. And how about if you've already dropped a Gaea's cradle?
4. Isn't expedition map a filler card?

In order to Hyperlink, all you do is this "[card.]CARD NAME[/card.]" without the periods.
1. Spirit of Resistance is extremely situational and easily a dead card in hand. I don't like dead cards. (:
2. No two? Haha
3. Vesuva is a slower option than duals. Depending on the lands, colors, and budget that you have this is a viable option. If you have fetch/shock/dual lands I don't see it as something I would consider.
4. Expedition Map is just slow. I don't run any bullet lands so it's a null point. If I ran a Gaea's Cradle and needed it bad, I would consider running some at that point. I feel like Sylvan Scrying is just better though since it costs 1 less mana.
5. Thran Quarry Board wipes would hurt even more. Similar to the question about Vesuva, it's not optimal but could be run based on mana base and budget.

Well that took a second to configure! First time though
Thank you for your input JPoJohnson. Point #2 point was reversed after reconsideration and I forgot to erase.
Currently I struggle with balancing my mana base, and possibly a few too many creatures. I'm not CRAZY about Talon, Battle, Sinew Slivers due to their redundant abilities. I've already spent money on this deck so I don't really want to spend THAT much more on lands. Throw out your Onslaught Fetch lands (Flooded Strand) and Duel Alphas (Bayou).
* Because I'm avoiding purchasing these lands, I'm running a few life lands gain lands (Thornwood Falls), because of my need for G/R lands (as these are my two dominant colors).
1. I've got about 8 or so check lands Rootbound Crag and Tango lands Canopy Vista , but do I really want to be padding my deck with basic lands to make these useful? I am dealing with a 5 color deck. If I add basics, it seems like it's pulling me away from my ability to get my commander Sliver Overlord on turn 4-5. I chose to throw them out.
3. I'm not opposed to getting a Gaea's Cradle, (irony I know...) but it is a random draw and I see it getting used about 10-15%% of the time. Is it Amazing? Yes... is it worth dropping 130 bucks.... IDK. Thoughts? How have you seen it play out?
4. I'm avoiding Virulent Sliver because of the tacky win-con, but I was thinking of adding a Harmonic Sliver. My only concern there is that it will eat into your artifacts and enchantments if opponent has none.
Harmonic isn't usually an issue because of sac outlet slivers. You seem to only run 1 though.
What is your goal with the deck? I ask because your sliver selection doesn't have much focus and you have a lot of redundancy.

I readded a few slivers because of my card count. IDK where my redundant abilities should be: Winged Sliver/Galerider Sliver? Cause I have a 1 in 50 chance of pulling the useful flying ability. +1 +1 Aggro slivers are okay to have a few of? What Slivers would you trim out if you were running a mid-agro/ combo deck? Also do you like Hybernation Sliver, and if so why?
I've had a lot of success running a mid-aggro/combo deck with this list. You can obviously tailor the lands and additional cards to your needs based on budget and playstyle.

You have lifelink x 2, First Strike and Double Strike, etc.
You also have quite a few slivers with abilities that aren't very helpful. I originally had my deck stuffed full of slivers and slowly weeded out the ones that don't matter.
You can replace slivers with other spells that help the deck run. Also, Overloard and Slivercycling help you get slivers you need.
This is why I asked what the goal was. Voltron? Aggro? Based on what I see it's not combo. I play very similar to JPoJohnshon, kind of a mixture of combo and attack for the win.

I think I'm running a straight up aggro sliver deck. Thanks for your advice everyone, I'm trying to see which ones to remove and I've been looking through both of your decks.
I added some pump slivers, Sinew Sliver, Muscle Sliver, as well as Door of Destinies. I think winning through lethal, especially commander lethal, needs to be a main strategy because it can happen fast with Slivers - especially with Virulent Sliver, which I've also added.
I also added Idyllic Tutor, Demonic Tutor, Worldly Tutor, and Eladamri's Call. It's a five color deck, not having tutors to call up for answers or pieces to reinforce your board state is just silly. For running 38 lands, I was also experiencing a low amount of land drops, surprisingly with the amount of lands I run, so I added Hunting Wilds and Oracle of Mul Daya for some extra bit of ramp.
I also added some non-sliver creatures - Sun Titan because with so many 3 cmc or less permanents in this deck, he's just TOO good. I liked the idea of Treasury Thrull, but I realized he's too slow. Scavenging Ooze is a must because I play in a meta that likes to abuse graveyards. I'm also giving Alesha, Who Smiles at Death a shot because being able to recur Slivers, even during combat, is pivotal. The ability to bounce back from a board wipe with Patriarch's Bidding will no doubt be crucial (not sure why I decided to remove it from my original build), and Temur Ascendancy with the pump Slivers, Door of Destinies and other pump effects will be card draw that is sorely needed.
I also added Hivestone for the non-sliver creatures, but I was tossing around the idea of Conspiracy. What do you guys think? The cons vs. Hivestone is the higher CMC, but I think other than that it's all positives. It allows you to tutor for Slivers with Overlord and Urza's Incubator and Patriarch's Bidding will also apply to those same creatures.
Also, I'm concerned about ramp a little. What are some good ramp cards, besides rocks, that you guys like? Oracle is a surefire shot I feel and I was also looking at Into the Wilds, but I feel that card needs something such as Mirri's Guile, Top, or Crystal Ball to really make it effective.
Let me know what you guys think about these changes and suggestions are always welcome
I made a few revisions to my deck...
I added some pump slivers, Sinew Sliver, Muscle Sliver, as well as Door of Destinies. I think winning through lethal, especially commander lethal, needs to be a main strategy because it can happen fast with Slivers - especially with Virulent Sliver, which I've also added.
The +1/+1 Slivers are terrible. They will rarely impact the board, much less win you the game. Replace them with Mirror Entity if you really want another tutorable P/T boost aside from Sliver Legion. Door of Destinies is similarly terrible since it doesn't impact the board when you play it. Better just stick to Coat of Arms or Sliver Legion.
Alright, here is my updated list! I've made quite a few tweeks since the last drafting of this deck. I've trimmed out 10 slivers, added a few spells, upgraded my lands and added an artifact. Right now if you do the math I have 97 cards and 3 empty slots. IDK what I want to fill it with. Here are my questions
(This is an aggro deck. It naturally has some combos built in, but all out assault is the general objective)
2. IDK how my mana curve should be on this one. I'm thinking the smaller the mana cost the better, but also I don't want everyone to die. Where is the balance on the curve between 2 costs and 3-4-5mana cost Slivers? I'm thinking that I value their utility more than their health.
3. I cut out all of the +1/+1 Slivers (even) Predatory Sliver because of Sliver Legion, Coat of Arms and because of their potential dead drop nature in late game. Thoughts?
5. Cyclonic Rift has a unique benefit I didn't think about until today. Say someone takes control of my general, Sliver Overlord; play Cyclonic Rift and bounce him back to the hand. Anyone think there is a wrath card they like more than Blasphemous Act instead for the deck?
6. I love the idea of cards like Mirri's Guile, and Scroll Rack etc. working as an insurance policy against Sliver Overlord being destroyed. And if they are stacking/drawing favorable cards anyways, I can go to the queen's powers and save the mana I'd have used for homing. Thoughts?
Okay... this is going to be one LENGTHY post. Have to get up to speed with lots of things.
First, @xterminator90:
I agree that the +1/+1 slivers are a complete waste of a slot each in EDH. I used to think that of Megantic Sliver too but it is a game changer when you have very few slivers in play.
Why pack Talon Sliver at all when you have a 1cmc option available instead? Actually, I don't run first-strike strike-giving slivers at all when I can ship Bonesplitter Sliver instead, which is a very cost-effective card IMHO.
My first impulse would be to sacrifice life over speed if you have to build a budget mana base. Shocklands are an absolute must here IF you're going to ship fetches, but if you won't, filter lands are an excellent second choice, and I wouldn't go for any taplands other than the Alara shardlands in most cases.
Given enough rocks or ways to inflate your resource yields, I'd say you can skip a Gaea's Cradle. Read again: given enough. And consider the amount of creatures you run. It's an expensive card if there's ever been one, agreed...
Darksteel stuff is your answer to Harmonic Sliver's ability. Hell, I consider a Darksteel Ingot to be a mandatory include, no matter what, this being one of the reasons.
I haven't been able to bring myself to like Crib Swap that much, but I can recall several episodes where it would have been oh so handy. I don't know, I don't like giving slivers to my opponents, even if they're lowly 1/1 tokens. Can't decide here.
Whether or not to pack Battle Sliver hinges basically on how aggressive your playstyle and battle plans are, supposing you didn't pack Might Sliver and Megantic Sliver first.
Diffusion Sliver is not going to stop a determined opponent, least of all in a resource-overrich environment such as EDH. Waste of a slot IMHO. In 1v1 it gets marginally better... emphasis on marginally.
Collected Company is a nice shenanigan, which I'm going to include on the list of useful cards. I feel inclined to consider you don't get enough bang for your buck considering how many interesting cards you have that could use this slot, though.
Trace of Abundance paints a target on the land you enchant. You could conceivably use this as a beacon for the opposition to nuke another player's land while simultaneously playing politics by helping out someone else... still once again, I feel there are other cards more deserving of a slot than this one. IMHO any ramp spell > this.
Consider you run a five-color deck Fellwar Stone is always an excellent pick.
Evolving Wilds and Terraforming Expanse are great choices if you run some basics, which I recommend you do in any case. When someone Blood Moons the table you don't want to be left with a load of mana you can barely use.
@nykspree:
I've never been that much of a fan of things like Conspiracy or Hivestone because they tend to behave as removal magnets, and they also tell the enemy you have some thralls that are so juicy you just can't let them hang around un-slivered. This turns your deck into an interesting target for a Bribery, which is something I avoid like the freaking plague. That's one card I hate if there's ever been one.
This is the first time I see Scavenging Ooze in a slivers deck. I suppose it plays nice with the two cards I just mentioned, and it is an amazing hose against decks that do funny things with graveyards. (The Mimeoplasm comes to mind.) What is your basis for including it?
Temur Ascendancy is a killer going straight to my wantlist. I'm not going to bore you with the mayhem this can cause if you just play Megantic Sliver alongside this.
Hey Crux, I'm so glad to get your feedback. My deck has changed quite a bit and I'd love your input on this revamped deck. Please refer to my above post, and anyone else too. Since the last post I have 99 cards, as I've added Wheel of Fortune, and Braingeyser. These are the two cards I think I've settled on because of their immediate use if I've dumped the slivers I've used. As far as my mana base and most of the cards, there's been nothing budget about it so far. Yikes, no more 5color generals for me. you know, a bribery card would not be terrible for the deck. Considered running an Oracle of Mul Daya. My concern is that my deck is fast, but will run out of gas if not comboing out.
I guess that's what you get when you're analyzing Magic lists at 4 AM.
I'll go through your checklist, step by step:
IMHO the more haste the merrier. Considering all your stuff your slivers do you want to have as many redundant ways of having them jumping into the fray ASAP.
Rhystic Study can have effects other than providing simple card advantage - it can annoy the hell out of everyone else. I know, nothing new there, but be careful when you field it. Your choice cards are all very good, even if I prefer filling my hand via synergy between cards instead.
Catastrophe is my weapon of choice when destroying stuff indiscriminately. Given how you will be given no quarter by the enemy in most if not all situations, depriving people of their bread basket while you have a swarm of Birds of Paradise lookalikes is a perfectly valid tactic. Blasphemous Act is an amazing pick though, and one I'm adding to the useful cards list if I haven't done so already.
In my own experience Scroll Rack isn't nowhere nearly as good as other stacking/drawing cards. Hey, even Crystal Ball has proved being a better pick when tested.
This one merits another list:
Spirit of Resistance is amazing on paper, though rather difficult to pull off in practice and extremely vulnerable to disruption. The more shields you throw up, the more interested everyone is in nuking you. Or at least that has been my experience.
Lotus Petal is a waste of a slot. Great if you have it in your opening hand or if you draw it on the first few turns, but you can pack only one of those.
Door of Destinies is another card which looks amazing on paper but does not perform up to expectations in practice.
On the other hand, Sterling Grove IS exactly as amazing as it looks on paper. Supposing that you run tons of enchantments, that is.
Hive Stirrings is one card I have actually never used... I suppose it depends greatly on what other slivers you have in play.
That Amulet of Vigor is an amazing solution for a problem you don't have, except for those 6 lands. I suggest you decide on a case-by-case basis whether it's more advantageous to take the life hit or the speed hit.
Hi,
I'm building a sliver deck and I'm torn on whether or not I should use cryptic gateway. Have you ever tried it?
Tapping two creatures, even if they have summoning sickness, to put an uncounterable creature in at instant speed for zero mana seems pretty good, especially with overlord's tutor ability and cards like intruder alarm are broken with it too. Plus, there's the occasional ruination and other land hate where I play so I'm thinking it might be worth it for me.
Faces of the Past is an easy to set infinite recursion, only slower than Intruders Alarm

[Horde] Phyrexia ascendant - The Virus

I agree with you on Privileged Position lol, something about the card just makes you instantly threatening. I might swap it out for Steely Resolve or Asceticism.

2. Should I go for more shock lands (Temple Garden, odyssey filter lands (Mossfire Valley, or shadowmoor filter lands (mystic gate)?
5. Finally, I like Purphoros, God of the Forge because of the built in Shared Animosity, and Sliver Legion because of the built in Coat of Arms. But because of that I'm thinking of leaving both other cards out. Thoughts?
Maybe Deck:
1. Crib Swap
2. Battle Sliver
3. Diffusion Sliver
4. Mana Confluence - Annoyed that you get hit EACH time for life
5. Collected Company
6. Trace of Abundance
7. Fellwar Stone
8. Ghostflame Sliver (worth it to avoid color targeted wrath spells?)
9 Evolving Wilds/ Terramorphic Expanse
And as always, cards are recommended. Am I too few on counter spells, too heavy on creatures? What else?
Cheers.
What is your goal with the deck? I ask because your sliver selection doesn't have much focus and you have a lot of redundancy.

Modern Warp / UR Control / UR Storm / Naya Breachshift / ElectroBalance
Solidarity / Lands / Sneak and Show / Grixis Delver / Reanimator / Belcher / Storm / Dredge

Omnath, Locus of Mana

1. I have 3 haste slivers, and I could cut one if needed. 33% chance of pulling haste for turns 1-3, and I like the Firewake Sliver as a sac outlet for the Harmonic Sliver . Idk which one (or at all): Firewake Sliver, Heart Sliver, or Blur Sliver?
Thoughts?
4. Ideally speaking, I want to fill the last slots with ace draw cards. I do have Sylvan Library, Rhystic Study, Survival of the Fittest, Demonic Tutor, Mirri's Guile. While I have ways to counter a board wipe and a growing grave, I will struggle against Massive mana bases and no Slivers in hand. (Presuming someone snags the Sliver Overlord, or I don't draw the Homing Sliver. Maybe Wheel of Fortune/Windfall, Braingeyser?
Thoughts?
7.. Also feel free to suggest slivers/cards that I can consider cutting out or adding. I'm on the fence about Spirit of Resistance, Skyshroud Claim, Lotus Petal, and Door of Destinies, Sterling Grove, Hive Stirrings, and Amulet of Vigor. The last card is because none of my lands come in tapped, but should I hold onto it because of my pain lands like Steam Vents? I have 6 of those cards.
- Thanks to Crux for the thread and all of the members invaluable input.
First, @xterminator90:
Now, on with that maybeboard:
@nykspree:
[Horde] Phyrexia ascendant - The Virus
WUBRG - [Primer] Sliver Overlord - The Swarm - WUBRG
I'll go through your checklist, step by step:
[Horde] Phyrexia ascendant - The Virus
WUBRG - [Primer] Sliver Overlord - The Swarm - WUBRG
I'm building a sliver deck and I'm torn on whether or not I should use cryptic gateway. Have you ever tried it?
Tapping two creatures, even if they have summoning sickness, to put an uncounterable creature in at instant speed for zero mana seems pretty good, especially with overlord's tutor ability and cards like intruder alarm are broken with it too. Plus, there's the occasional ruination and other land hate where I play so I'm thinking it might be worth it for me.
