What are you using to gain life and stay in games?
If you absolutely must have lifegain, I could see Basilisk Collar being an OK addition. It's super cheap and we have goblins a-plenty to throw in front of attacking creatures.
So I run Glacial Chasm in one of my land slots to keep me in games I have no business remaining in. I've found more casual tables really, really lack land disruption.
There is one piece of recent-print lifegain though. Inventors' Fair doesn't do tooooooo much (lifegain-wise - it's a beautiful card for what it's meant for!), but it's there.
Liked for "Meh." Lifegain is seriously not something Norin wants to care about. 40 ought to be fine. Matter of fact, lifegain that doesn't serve another purpose (one that furthers the rest of the game plan) is probably a detriment, as it takes up vital card slots.

I totally agree. Inventor's Fair would have made it into my list regardless of the lifegain. It's no more than a bonus.

A hobby is by defenition something you're not any good at - otherwise it'd have been your work. Magic is my biggest hobby so I mustn't be very good at it.
i use wurmcoil engine; it's arguable if it became worse off in my deck since i just cut pandemonium or not. i also tried for a brief period batterskull, and cut it because i could not do any shenanigans with it and either feldon or kiki. also tried the land that gives 1 life for each colorless creature, can't recall the name right now, but wasn't enough.
i think the best way in red to protect your life total would be Glacial Crevasses or a more stax-oriented build.
I'm still in the process of making my norin deck. it is mostly finished thought, apart from few cards. I was just curious about some things. Why outrage shaman over FTK? the kavu not only has 2 more power but in most situations the deck has run into so far, the shaman actually does less damage as well due to not having enough devotion. Secondly, is vicious shadows a good enough budget option for the deck or did gaka take it out because it's too bad?

Vicious Shadows isn't bad, even in this deck. It's probably better in a Feldon or Alesha deck, though. This is more of an ETB deck and doesn't have much synergy with it. This and its higher cost make it a little harder to slot in when there are better options. But in a budget build those options might not be available. If it works for you, it works.

I also just thought of gratuitous violence in this deck. it's 2 less than shadows and it works really well with purph, outrage shaman, siege gang, mom and dad nalaar, pandemonium effects, and the swarms of tokens you generate
Had a brutally short game tonight of my Norin deck vs Saskia (precon) and slivers. Saskia player cast their commander and named the sliver player — ended up hitting me a couple times over the next turns to get to him since he had 4 1/1 first strike slivers. Then Hivelord was cast. I top-decked Confusion in the Ranks and decided I was going to risk some friendships tonight. Easily wrested control of almost all creatures and was hitting the Saskia player unblocked for low double-digits (and thus the sliver player, too).
At one point the sliver player slivercycled for Necrotic Sliver, but misplayed and cast it without leaving open 3 to at least destroy Confusion. So on the next Confusion trigger I steal it and activate the ability on Necrotic itself, sacking it, to get rid of the ability and take out something I didn't yet control.

Sounds like a good game - did you end up at the top of the pile? lol you failed to mention
I must not have said because I felt it was a given. There were only 3-4 turns around the table after Confusion came down. After hitting both of them for 10 each due to Saskia, then the next turn hitting them for 13 each, they decide the game was over and conceded.
Edit: I will note that Saskia seems to incentive naming the player with the best board state and then hitting the weaker players. In a 3-player game, that could very well mean a heavy imbalance right from the start. So I don't really like that, but it's probably better in 4-player.
I think I've hardly ever lost a game where Confusion in the Ranks even just sticked once around the table. Good one :).

How often do you go to time and are unable to finish?
Here's what happened. I was in a losing position because no one would allow me to keep anything on the board that worked with Norin. So I Warp World to reset. I pop out a Confusion in the Ranks, Genesis Chamber and a Grip of Chaos. I miss every other possible non land card imaginable. My opponents proceed to drop a dozen creatures, that when enters gets a Confusion trigger as well as a Genesis trigger. The Genesis triggers each gets a Confusion trigger. All triggers are done at random thanks to the Grip. Had to roll each individual trigger for everyone. Took 30 minutes just to figure out how every trigger was going to land. Unable to finish the game because the store had to close. They wanted to flip the table, i couldnt stop crying from laughter.

Theres an App that lets you set a total number and then rolls a dice, it really helps (MTGFamiliar for example).
Lets say you have 32 creatures, just set the number to 32, as a result you get a random number, lets say 19, and then you count the creatures till you hit 19. Takes a minute max.
Just make sure the order is set before you roll the dice to avoid a discussion.
I run a list based on the primer but made a couple changes and cut the cute cards.
Oh and whats really nice is Indomitable Creativity, give it a try.
Another superb synergy I discovered was Feldon on the table + Conscripts in the grave. Take anything you want at instant speed.
I never had problems with timing out, neither in paper nor online. And from all mono colored decks norin wins the most. Cute little fella.

Thanks for the tip. Never heard of MTG Familiar before, Downloading it and will take a look at it.
Got my hands on a Paradox Engine this week. Always seemed a bit to situational in this deck for me, but it might surprise. Doubling effects like Kiki-Jiki's, Moggcatcher's, or Feldon's seems to be quite good, and since we run a lot of artifact mana it might do a bit more than Rings of Brighthearth, which is an OK card but not fantastic for us. Then again, it does absolutely nothing by itself.
Has anyone playtested it with Norin?

i'm not convinced on paradox engine in here. just one manadork and very few instant spells means it gets use just on your turn instead of on everyone's. not going to test it for that reason.
Soul-Scar Mage
Do I want to give norin the power to kill any creature on the board even when their toughness is a lot higher then his power when Pandemonium or Warstorm Surge is out? Yes. Yes I do.
I suppose it's about time for the midpoint review:
By Force: Excellent second Shattering Spree. I'm totally down for this card (EDIT: in the sideboard)
Combat Celebrant: Combat Celebrant is a cheap way to get in the beats with an army of tokens. That said, it unfortunately cannot be fetched with Recruiter, and it might be a little too win-more.
Harsh Mentor: Solid punishment card, though it doesn't synergize particularly with any of the rest of the deck.
Soul-Scar Mage: Soul-Scar Mage is a card that seems like at best it will be inefficient removal and at worst will be a filler creature that dies easily and that stuffs up an important draw. I am not enthused.
Hazoret's Monument: Hazoret's Monument could be decent in a creature-heavy build that already runs Ruby Medallion. I'm considering it, but I don't want to go too deep that way. It does feel like a Norin card, to some degree, though.
Throne of the God-Pharaoh: Throne of the God-Pharaoh, like Combat Celebrant, is somewhat win-more and token-based. But unlike Combat Celebrant, it is legendary (Honor-Worn Shaku synergy) and doesn't need to go into combat itself. I'm almost certainly testing this. (Already running Hellrider in this vein)

I've run Vicious Shadows on and off forever. It's a good game ender, but that mana cost is just too high for me.
