My local LGS has a commander league that's on the competitive side. I was thinking of dusting off this list for it, although I haven't played it in a while. It seems like the three main decks to watch out for are Derevi (Stax), Gitrog Monster (combo), and Tazri (food chain). Assuming that these are the decks I'll be playing against, how might you change the list to fight them? I'm not sure about Derevi and Tazri, but I was thinking of adding Faerie Macabre to fight Gitrog. Maybe Extract or Praetor's Grasp to exile Food Chain from Tazri?

My Cubes - The Busted Cube. A fully functional, almost 100% custom cube. The project started out by asking "What if other colors got cards on the power level of Mana Drain,Ancestral Recall, and Time Walk?" Draft and enjoy!
I would suggest Bitter ordeal over Extract or Pratpr's grasp
If Tazri and Gitrog have Riftsweeper or pull from eternity they can get combos back. I don't think Gitrog typically runs riftsweeper but I think Tazri is all in on food chain. I say bitter ordeal because you can take away multiple combo and retrieval spells.
Grasp would be the second choice since the card is face down and can't be returned but honestly, it may be too slow.
Void Winnower may be a good target against Tazri since then they can't cast Misthollow or scourge from exile.
Adding Macabre, scavenging ooze, bitter ordeal, grasp, flusterstorm would be a good start.
Against Gitrog you have deathrite, add ooze, and noxious revival is a solid interruption for a moment as well and gives you a outlet for combo if lab man is exiled for whatever reason.
Finally Derevi should be policing the table if they're doing it right but has fallen from grace in the last year, not as scary as she was before but things like Gilded drake work very well against Derevi.

Hey guys so I've actually moved on from commander on to 60 card decks so I don't have any commander decks.
Anyway I've started my own gameplay channel in which I play games (Magic also)
I've done some thinking about the deck and talked with some others as well. I'm thinking that going back to 4c is the right option but this time...add red.
Now it seems odd to most but Dan from Laboratory Maniacs (Check them out if you haven't) brought up some interesting points that I think would justify it.
1. Red is a splash, with white I had too add too many things and the combo it added was just like the one without white.
2. Red gives us only one dead card in hand (Worldgorger) and while it is fragile it adds Pyroblast and Red Blast to help combo out.
3. Iona and Elesh Norn are great but ultimately not needed. Void Winnower is often better than Iona (Yeah I said it) and Norn just makes aggro more viable, which isn't really needed.
4. Sadly big papa Terastodon will likely be cut as well since he's become something I don't go for as often. Yes, nuking lands is great early game but I'm depending on him less and less. If there are problematic cards they can die to Nature's claim, Deed, beast within, whatever. He may return but I don't think he's needed and focusing on the heavy heavy reanimation targets seems better.
5. Speaking of reanimating targets....Sire of Insanity. Making everyone hellbent is what this deck wants to do and frankly, we don't need hands often to win.
Looking for a bit more suggestions because I'm likely forgetting something but I'm still at 103 cards and need some more cuts. Thoughts?

You think stubborn denial is too conditional to make the cut? I guess negate is better. And is forbidden alchemy just not good cause you can't discard from hand? I do love that you get to add Wheel and Dack not to mention the lovely Sire of Insanity
Looks good to me. Let us know how it plays.
Edit: Just saw that you were looking for cuts haha I'll look it over again and see if anything stands out.

Stubborn denial is so good because it's a 1 mana negate with Tasigur, otherwise it's hard to get the hard counter with it. I love the card and it may return but I needed to make cuts and that was one of the ones that fits Tasigur more than anything.
Forbidden was cut because it wasn't hand discard and I needed something to cut for Compost and Baral (Who both have been fantasic)

I feel like Beast Within looks almost too expensive, although versatile. In terms of removal, the other single targeted removal feels a little better. Does carpet of flowers really ramp you a lot? Izzet Charm just feels alright to me. Maybe thirst for knowledge is worse, but I dont know. Would Dispel or Arcane Denial be the first counter to go? I guess Jace feels super slow to me.
It's a tough call, I hate cutting any counter or removal, so I'd look at creatures first then maybe planeswalkers.
is protean hulk gonna make a showing or does he need more build around?
If I add hulk I have to add viscera seer, mikeaus, flash, and ballista. I don't want to add so many cards that are dead in hand. I think reducing just down to worldgorger is best

Looking at your 4 color list now, the dig through time seems kind of iffy since of the double blue, though im not entirely sure about how to test a mana base. Im also not really a fan of dack fayden as he seems slow.
Funny that you went for red this time, it was what I first tried with the release of the partner mechanic, because I had been enjoying Grixis save for Sedris itself.
I have since moved to Breya, but I actually liked dorks in the other versions of the deck. With Tymna for draw and in Smasher for Birthing Pod into Twin combo.

The deck is still blue/black with the other colors being splashed. It won't be hard at all getting double blue early with that manabase

I like the idea of Breya since she kills with infinite (Also I love my Breya deck) but green has been an amazing support color to kill off things that are problematic to the deck. With Sedris how did you win with infinite mana?
Also like that Pod combo with Tyama and Vial, I'm doing a similar thing for my own Tymna/Tana deck

I'm following this thread form almost a year now and I'm on Tas right now but I tried the white splash and while I had manabase problems(NO abu dual here)I really liked the white cards especially plow, karmic guide elesh and enlightened tutor;I eventually went back to Tas for the body which is very relevant more often than not in my meta. That being said,do you really think these red cards are worthy?I'm actually liking only wheel, reb pyro and dack.
However thank you for this thread/primer .Keep it up! Sorry for my English
Well the red cards I'm adding are a very very very little splash
Right now these are the cards I'm adding:
Izzet charm
Dack Fayden
Wheel of fortune
Faithless looting
Gamble
Sire of insanity
Worldgorger dragon.
So without Dragon and Sire that's 6 mana symbols in the whole deck with 0 double red, I don't see it being much of an issue here

Mystic remora
Red Elemental blast
Pyroblast
Stifle
Trickbind
Cut/Ribbons
Bloom tender
Fire covenant
Forbidden orchard
Noxious revival
Life from the loam
Dragonlord Atarka
Regrowth
Eternal witness

Hi there! I'd like to ask how you got your decklists to stay in two columns. I love the side-by-side setup you have with card type/card function, but no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to recreate it in my Momir Vig list. If you have any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks!

Yeah, that's what I tried to do, I copied the formatting exactly. For some reason however, it won't collapse into two columns; it always stays at 3. Well if you ever do figure it out, please let me know.
I would also like to inquire about the use of Ancient Tomb in your deck. I used to run it in my Momir Vig deck, but I've ended up moving away from it. Can you tell me how useful it has been in your 4c deck? I'd imagine it would be somewhat hard land to play early on when you need access to your colors.
the primer doesn't add up to 100 cards. it's 105. i've removed noxious revival, life from the loam, stubborn denial, and eldritch evolution from the list. however, it's still at 101 cards.

A majority of the best spells in the deck cost three mana and once we're there we can cast everything in the deck so it's been helpful.
Turn one Spellskite is always welcome and since a majority of the 2 and 3 mana spells aren't double color it's rarely an issue. Being able to cast Buried alive, intuition, Beast within, or wheel of fortune a turn early seems very useful.
Granted this is mostly talking about experience with 3 color but I think it holds true for four as well. Time will tell.

I know you're tired of reading of my love for Tidespout Tyrant, but with Thrasios at the helm it's way easier to use him as a infinite mana producer.
I actually put him back on my test list because of this.
Tidespout with any of the two: chrome mox, sol ring, and mana crypt makes infinite. Seems much better.
Also currently this deck is much much better

1. Deck is much faster with Red and not White. The tiny adds and making the combo just one card while focusing on Jin/Winnower/Consphinx/Sire for offensive and everything else for defense has made it far more consistent and much quicker.
2. Gamble is amazing. With the consistent cards often being the same few the discard often doesn't matter and can even help.
3. Thrasios and Smasher also work well for control if Reanimator isn't an option. Being able to control the game easily and having two powerful options in the command zone is great. Every game essentially starts with 9 cards in hand since we have two generals and both do a lot of work.
4. I feel like adding a few more dorks would be viable. A majority of the best spells here are at 3 mana so throwing in something like Elves of deep shadow, Fyndhorn/mystic/llanowar, or whatever would likely help. Maybe even Orcish Lumberjack but my concern for only green or red mana may reduce it's usefulness.
5. I think cutting down on filtering cards is another option. With Thrasios we can already filter so having so many my not be needed. I don't miss forbidden alchemy and am starting to think that some others may go as well.
6. Finally, I want to test Regrowth and Eternal Witness. With only 3 enchantment reanimation options that can already be used on other targets it's possible they get binned and I have little way to get them back. Noxious Revival is another option.
These are the cards I have in consideration:
Mystic remora (Lots of draw)
Red Elemental blast (One mana counter, may not be needed)
Pyroblast (See above)
Stifle (Probably not)
Trickbind (See above)
Bloom tender (Better now that our generals aren't one color)
Fire covenant (Targeted Deluge is better?)
Forbidden orchard (More five color options)
Noxious revival (Regrowth)
Life from the loam (Haven't missed it yet)
Regrowth (See revival)
Eternal witness (Yeah)
Stubborn denial (Haven't missed it yet)
Tidespout tyrant (Good and makes another infinte with artifacts)
Logic knot (Kills with Vial smasher and a fat graveyard and is overall good)
Crop rotation (Gets bazaar, homeward, or command tower/breeding pool/Trop for infinite mana outlet)
Elves of deep shadow (Dork)
Llanowar elves
Fyndhorn elves
Elvish mystic
