One question...I don't have a lot of the more spendy non-basics, do you have any insights on how the deck would play differently without them, and any suggestions for cards to swap out based on this? I would assume Hermit Druid is less useful?
Also, seems like Trade Routes could find a place in the deck, thoughts?

I'm pretty sure the power level and consistency of the deck would drop drastically without bazaar.

The only necessary evil as far as non-basics go is Bazaar. Both Jace_ and I plan to build this in paper (got a Japanese Genesis for it today), and both of us have looked for and failed to find a decent replacement. It's just so good. The deck is certainly playable without it, but wont be as capable in pulling out the turn 5-6 wins it enjoys now.
Gaea's Cradle you can do without, but I advise getting one as soon as possible, because it's just so good.
If you play without some of the nonbasics, you can certainly cut druid from the list. If you've got too many basics the odds of milling anything relevant drastically decreases. I recommend Greenseeker in place of (or even alongside) the druid.
On Trade Routes - this was suggested at the mtgcommander forums, and I agree, it could have a place. For now, though, the deck is too tight to cut much of anything (at least until I finally realize something sucks.... I will miss you Bearscape)

Tantarus: It didn't make the gaka greifer level, so it should be fine
Power level, most definitely. Consistency? IMHO not so much.
Its both a dredge enabler and a discard outlet. Possibly the best card in the deck. Not sure why you think it would hurt the consistency. Basically any key card you remove makes the deck less consistent. So I don't get it.

Thank you for the insights. I have a Gaea's Cradle, so the only cards currently unattainable to me are the Bazaar of Baghdad and Intuition (in addition to many of the other non-basics). I don't mind running a slower deck since my play group is small and not too competitive.
Cephalid Vandal perhaps? A two drop that mills, and can attack for a card with Edric. Drowner Initiate may even work, if you find you have spare mana, as every game has blue in it.
How is the primer coming? We need to know what you have tried before we can suggest more things. Also, happy new years everyone!
I'm trying to build something like this with Mimeoplasm at the helm. Tutors, Dread Return and Worm Harvest ftw. Nice having a general who can clone your own yard as well. I don't think I would target Edric or Kessig with him, though, as I don't like the exile drawback there. Body Double on the otherhand...
Haven't played this deck yet, but I was looking through some cards while building several otehr decks and I came across Sindbad. What do you think? Puts a card into your yard or gets a land into your hand. Thoughts?
There is actually an infinite combo in the deck (that functions through dredging, ironically) and it's insanely convoluted but guaranteed to win on the spot.
No, it's not the Krosan Restorer/Maze of Ith combo.
Gaea's Cradle + Fatestitcher + Life from the Loam + Cycle Land + Spitting Image + 5 creatures in play other than fatestitcher = Basically infinite mana and infinite fatestitchers with the ability to have an infinite number of every creature on the board, where Infinite is the number of cards in your deck/3, except for mana because you'll eventually acquire the ability to gain dozens of mana per tap of the cradle.
Since you're going to kill them with laboratory maniac anyways, you win instantly.
This happens more often than you might think.

I actually had thought of that combo but disregarded it since you have to dredge cards to get lftl back so wouldn't be infinite. Short of a Retiro Lantern effect.
Still cool tho, I love decks like this that have tons of little combos in them. Building one myself and will post it after my exams are over.
Really liking this build, although it would require me building another Edric Deck for my decklist compendium. Solid primer. Maybe a section on some of the mini-combos as mentioned above along with a more thorough explanation of how you set up the Kessig Cagebreakers win. The Maniac win is self explanatory, although explaining such nuances as Body Doubling Mirror-Mad to create an empty library would be golden.

Maybe I am addict for Edric - an Eddrict?
Yup, I'll be posting the "Ooh, look at all the interactions" section soon.
Eddricts unite.

Great deck, love the use of some of these cards.

How about Words of Wilding?
And did you consider magus of the bazaar; you mentioned bazaar being good and all.
props for another new and original deck to look at!
I will certainly look at this when I attempt to build my Damia dredge.
Also, Magus of the Candelabra?
Thank you for the insights. I have a Gaea's Cradle, so the only cards currently unattainable to me are the Bazaar of Baghdad and Intuition (in addition to many of the other non-basics). I don't mind running a slower deck since my play group is small and not too competitive.
Magus of the Bazaar is in his original decklist...

Mill your deck down to zero, and draw a card while you have Laboratory Maniac in play.
Memory's journey or other recursion methods ensures you can get lab maniac into play easily and repeatedly.
If it gets exiled, a backup plan of smashing everyone in with Kessig Cagebreakers is a fun option.

He has haste and the treshhold effect is really good.
He was in the original build, but in testing he proved to be incredibly useless. The +1/+1 effect just isn't necessary.
Working on it!

Second time got a brutal Norn, destroying everything I had. Still fun
Couldn't tell if it needs more recursion or not. I'll get back to you.
