Have you thought about batterskull to go along with your lifegain theme and Stoneforge Mystic?
Also, you seem a bit low on card draw. Something like Necropotence seems like it would be a good fit.
In an earlier (paper) list, I ran Batterskull will mixed, but usually good, results. If I owned a copy on MTGO I'd probably include it. I try to limit my MTGO purchases to really cheap or multiple uses, so Batterskull hasn't been a priority yet. I'm looking to increase the card draw, so I'll probably revamp the deck slightly once DGM gets the online release. Currently contemplating Ambition's Cost somewhere.
BTW, I really really like Spidersilk Armor and Sylvan Library for your multiplayer decklist. Sylvan Library is just too good to pass up.
Sylvan Library suffers the same fate as Batterskull. I'd run it and own a paper one, but online I don't have one (or Mirri's Guile, either). Spidersilk Armor is decent for a small boost and help against fliers. It gets better with more vigilance and Concerted Effort to spread the vigilance to the whole team, but so far fliers haven't become so oppressive that I feel the need to include a copy of the Armor.
Nightmare Incursion and Sadistic Sacrament are worth considering. I cut Identity Crisis from the deck because only being able to hit one opponent doesn't usually cut it. 1v1 makes the card much better, but not multiplayer. Incursion is similar, because while being able to cast this for a lot is nice even against a non-combo deck, I'd probably rather just cast Exsanguinate for the same amount of mana.
Overall, I agree with you both that more tutors and draw is probably what the deck immediately needs.
Edit: With the recent unbanning of Staff of Domination, do you think it's worth a card slot? I can't go infinite, but potentially generate a lot of mana, and the ability to untap a creature that's been locked down or draw a card could be useful. Thoughts?
Although I like the Sword, and Reclamation is sometimes decent, the biggest hole in the deck so far is the lack of card draw and tutors. (Yeah, Sword does draw me a card, but it's conditional at best.)
I thought I owned a Necropotence online, but apparently I don't. Sylvan Library is much cheaper than I thought, so I'll get one pretty soon and probably make another update to the deck once DGM gets released online.
Thoughts: Greaves is nice but not essential, and Scales give me mixed results. Giant is good, but I’m not running many equipment overall. Swapped them for the on theme Blood (don’t know how I missed it), Tithe, and another basic Swamp because I’ve been missing land drops lately, and Cabal Coffers isn’t very good unless I get 3+ Swamps.
(And I also got a Sylvan Library as well. What's a good spot for it?)
Blood is a cheap win (if you care about that) with the Vizkopa Guildmage, but more often than not it'll just be used with Extort to pad my life total. It may not stay, because I can see myself drawing irrational hate with it.
Thoughts: I don’t think I’ve used Condemn or Retribution one time because they’re so conditional, and despite all my spot removal and mass removal, the mass removal is conditional sometimes.
I've pretty much decided that at least in the immediate future, Ikiral Outrider will make room for Pontiff of Blight, and Exsanguinate will become Debt to the Deathless. The cards became available this weekend, but since it's still prerelease the prices are somewhat inflated (yes, I'm a cheapskate who doesn't want to pay $0.40 for a card).
Hmm, let me know how Exquisite Blood works out, it actually seems like it could be amazing.. Tithe I can already assume is great.
Got my first win off it today. Dropped it and swung with Doran (who was equipped with Sword of Feast and Famine). When I hit the player I stacked the Blood trigger then the Sword trigger. Untapped all my lands, and with Blood trigger still on the stack, activated Vizkopa Guildmage's second ability for the loop. This was around turn 6.
After using it once I think I'm going to consider taking Blood out. It's literally a two card combo that can be set off from something as simple as a fetchland being popped. Yeah, since half the combo is attached to a creature it's more fragile, and Blood does have synergy outside of the combo, but there's no satisfaction of winning that way. The only saving grace is that I can't ever imagine myself tutoring for either piece of the combo.
I built a Doran deck myself that didn't really work out (I have too many decks with white in them and not enough staples/spot removal, so I'll be rebuilding him later).
One card I have in there that I noticed you didn't is Tireless tribe. That guy can come out of nowhere with Doran out to really dominate someone. Also, Accorder's Shield for the pump/vigilance, Kingpin's Pet for a flyer, Treefolk harbinger to fetch Doran if he gets tucked or just a forest, and Vampire Nighthawk to stay on your lifegain theme. I'd also suggest Nameless Inversion as removal - It's essentially a black lightning bolt that can also lower a creature's attacking power if you use it in combat with Doran out.
Here is a link to my deck if you want to look at it. The Dark Confidant and Dark Tutelage are for lack of Arena, and I tried to keep my CMC way low for this deck.
And Here is a link to the infect version (which is the one I really wanted to go with but didn't really know how to do it)

Those are all decent cards depending on the situation and the build:
Tireless Tribe - I already have issues keeping my hand full, so I'm not sure that I want to add discard. I run a similar effect with Kitsune Loreweaver, and it's worked out pretty well. At one point, I toyed around with Crenellated Wall, to lesser results. Certainly a card to keep an eye on (particularly with Necropotence and Reliquary Tower).
Accorder's Shield - I'm not too fond of effects and creatures that are only good when Doran is in play. A smart opponent will get rid of him and reduce your deck to a bunch of walls. I ran Slagwurm Armor and it's a beast on Doran, but it ate removal way too often. Shield is nice because it grants vigilance, but we have better ways to do that (namely Oathsworn Giant).
Treefolk Harbinger - I liked this card when I ran it in a toughness/tribal matters version of Doran, because it was more of a toolbox. Right now the only time I'd want to see it would be if Doran got tucked and I needed him back. The land tutor isn't actually that good because it slows you down a turn.
Kingpin's Pet / Vampire Nighthawk - Good in an all-in extort/lifegain deck, but I'm using these effects as an added bonus to supplement my life total, so small fliers aren't that beneficial (bonus points to Nighthawk because it acts as a deterrent though).
Nameless Inversion - Situational removal at best. Why not just run Go for the Throat?
Your build looks pretty solid. Is it tailored more for 1v1? I see a lot of hand disruption and small support creatures. I'd definitely move Grafted Exoskeleton to the main deck in your infect build.
Awesome, man - I've been waiting for a Doran primer for months!
Thanks! I love how versatile he is as a general, and Necra is brings so much to the table in terms of card selection. If you run him, I'd love to see your list.
What do you like about Elixer of Imortality also out of curiosity. I see a lot of lifegain in the deck but outside of a one shot lifegain and anti graveyard tactics, I don't really get much from this. What do you usually use it for?
Necrologia might be worth testing in here. You have a lot of lifegain and it would give you an outlet to draw a big one shot necro draw if you want.

I primarily use Crop Rotation as an instant speed Bojuka Bog. Scrying and Map both offer use, and Map gets the Sun Titan point, so I'll definitely look into them.
Elixir of Immortality is mainly for the shuffle effect (I'm always paranoid of losing my graveyard to an exile effect). I wouldn't really consider it vital to the deck though.
I've never seen Necrologia before, looks interesting. Do you think it's worth having even with Necropotence?

Necropotence is usually the better by far. Its sometimes nice to have both though. The one time I have noticed Necrologia to be potentially better is if you get to low life and need the ability to still get your card for the turn without paying for it. Usually though that is moot and Necropotence is better. The enchantment costs less and you can draw the cards gradually as you see fit. Necrologia usually for me ends up me trying to draw 5-10 cards just to dig to what might be useful and discard 4-5 cards afterwards. Keep in mind with Necrologia that it will be your end step when you cast it so you still need to discard right afterwards.

That's what I was thinking. In a vacuum they both draw X cards at my end-step, Potence winning for repeatability, and Logia for not having to exile what I discard.
If you figure it's probably going to be equivilant to Harmonize, it's not bad as an instant effect.

Well, it depends on how you use it too. I usually burn it for 5-10 cards in my Obzedat deck. From what I see of your list it looks like you have tons of lifegain so this doesnt seem like it would be an issue. Sure you might only keep 7 cards after discard but having access to the deeper dig is fairly huge as to what you hand looks like for those 7.
I personally dont care about throwing cards away though. I dig for 10-15 cards all the time with necro just to throw away down to 7. I think people are over anal about exiling things though.

Sounds like me. I irrationally hate to discard, even though realistically they're as useless to me as in my deck if I can't access them.
Okay, one thing I was looking at on your list was Crackdown and the mention of Meekstone. What's your opinion when it comes to Crackdown vs Meekstone? Cause I have tons of the stone just laying about.

They snuck it on there yesterday.
I personally like Meekstone better than Crackdown in a vacuum. Generally we can better prepare than our opponents, and run effects like Oathsworn Giant, Seedborn Muse, and Concerted Effort. This hurts our opponents more because Crackdown misses white creatures.
In the current build, Meekstone would affect more creatures, so if I were to swap I'd certainly have to make other considerations. There's also the artifact vs enchantment debate.
Hmm, it's worth going over while I'm debating some of the other changes.. what are your recommended activators for Concerted Effort? I can see the swords being helpful, but other than Oathsworn (who doesn't matter for the Vigi, since he grants it) and Sun Titan I don't know if I have other Vigilance dudes. I could throw Elesh back in.. of course then I'd need to look at Noetic Scales again, but it's already on the debate list.
I just found this thread and was quite surprised at how similarly my Doran deck was to your primer. I play with a pretty casual crowd (Hence the Flying Carpet and minimal tutors) and many of my card choices are due to budget.
I have had so much fun with this deck. Necra colors have great synergy and allow for a sophisticated-feeling aggro deck. I found the extort sub-theme works wonders and is the perfect compliment to Necropotence. I'm holding out on some Core14 cards to come out, like Angel of Thune and I'm thinking about maybe taking out Garruk (since I rarely even draw into him), and replacing him for Phyrexian Reclamation.
I think I need to up the creature ratio, what do you think?
Do you find yourself giving people cards with Heartwood Storyteller? You've got almost twice as many spells as creatures. Also, how's your experience with Unstoppable Ash? I had mixed results with it personally, and found myself having to resort to championing Doran often. Other than that, it looks pretty good. Going with a fat ass strategy will make cards like Brawn or Primal Rage better, so that's something to consider. Another goofy card to go with the Carpet is Dancing Scimitar. It's pretty close to Slagwurm Armor, but can animate for another attacker/blocker when needed. (I also like Forbidding Watchtower for that reason.) To go with your Corpsejack Menace you could consider Spiritmonger.
I think you meant Ensouled Scimitar, though it is the true dancing scimitar. I'll definitely add it as I already have it in my sideboard of cards to test out, as is Forbidding Watchtower.
Bojuka Bog is actually already in my deck, just not on the list, I added it right after my friend Dan threw together a Varolz, the Scar-Striped deck.
With Heartwood Storyteller I've found that within my meta it's on an even scale to what everyone dishes out - we like our games big, so we all run lots of group-hug draw and ramp, we find the games to be more epic and explosive that way. Also if I need to shut him off he makes a good target for Unstoppable Ash, as does Treefolk Harbinger and Deadwood Treefolk - that being said, however, I've also been giving Ash some second thoughts lately, and I wasn't sure if he'd add to my small list of reasons to run Conspiracy - since he could then target my Eternal Witness to protect her and continue to run shenanigans.
In an earlier (paper) list, I ran Batterskull will mixed, but usually good, results. If I owned a copy on MTGO I'd probably include it.
