I am in the process of building Omnath and there are a couple cards I would really like to include. Temur Sabertooth and Surrak, the Huntcaller. I'm planning on playing the instant speed enablers and I see Sabertooth being good at dodging removal for Omanth and allowing me to be able to get more value out of my ETB guys. Sarruk just seems like such a beast by allowing us to swing hard and fast later in the game.
Opinion poll: Is it worth to play one drop mana dorks to enable a two turn Omnath?
I don't run any dorks besides the ones Freyalise makes. I have added Temur Sabertooh to my build as well, it's a great card. Surrak, seems good for us, but I don't want to run him.
Ok, so I've essentially built this deck -- but I didn't get a few cards due to budget constraints at this time. The ones I skipped or haven't bought yet are:
I think All Is Dust is a must. You can pick up the promo one for like 15 bucks, unless it went up. I cut Exploration from my build because if it doesn't come out early game it isn't of much use and I only run 35 lands so I don't think that count capitalizes on the extra land drop proc. Oracle of Mul Daya works well enough.
Thanks for putting this deck together. I've been playing it and it has lead to some amazing plays due to the tools present and the massive amounts of mana it can generate. In one game alone one opponent hit me with an overloaded Cyclonic Rift during his EoT. Using Aluren, I flashed in Eternal Witness to get back Crop Rotation from my graveyard. I used the Crop Rotation to sac a forest and bring in Reliquary Tower. I went into the next turn, replayed Aluren, flashed in Omnath and just resumed beatings. Near the end I was facing down a huge horde of crazy demons. I needed any one of a few answers. I hit Omnath with Greater Good, drew 17 cards, used the newly drawn All Is Dust, used floating mana to cast Praetor's Counsel and won against the other players who were left with empty hands.
Alright, of the cards spoiled from Magic Origins, these are the cards I'm currently considering, one of which I believe will be a sure thing:
Animist's Awakening
Elemental Bond
Nissa's Pilgrimage
Animist's Awakening: Big splashy cards that can pull lots of land out of your library are always worth trying. The fact that this may be able to untap those lands is also pretty cool, especially if I've cast this spell using only battery mana. The only downside is that I've not fond of shipping a bunch of potentially relevant cards to the bottom of my deck. Redundancy can help stem that, but it will always feel like a bit of a loss whenever it happens.
Elemental Bond: This deck has 16 creatures that can trigger this enchantment, which certainly isn't nothing. There are even more possible triggers if I have an active Eldrazi Monument and everything triggers if I have an active Beastmaster Ascension.
Nissa's Pilgrimage: This is the surefire replacement. In a mono-green deck, this card is a strict upgrade over Cultivate and Kodama's Reach (unless you're worried about Spirit/Arcane synergies with the latter).
It's a fine card, but it's better suited to decks that don't run green. Green just flat out has better ramp and fixing, and spending 4 mana for 1 power isn't enough of a pump to warrant running if the fixing isn't also required.
How do you guys feel about The Great Aurora? I tend to struggle with boards that get out of control, and it's a reset button that pushes us very, far ahead.

I've been looking at that card as well. All is dust dumps all permanents in the graveyard. That's going to bug Omnath more than any reanimation opponents you might have.
If anyone can recover fast from a boardwipe to library it ought to be a mono green ramp right?
In fairness, the lands come in untapped, so you do get a "turn" after resolution. It can also act as a green Warp World in some ways. Green makes tokens very well and this lets you net a huge amount of card advantage potentially; especially when you will tend to have more lands than your opponents. Also, Omnath's mana pool won't empty until the end of the phase, allowing the spell to resolve and still utilize all your mana with all the cards you drew. In essence, it will almost always benefit you more than anyone else at the table, in my opinion, and it also gets around troublesome board states, which green can struggle with.
It's true that your opponents also draw a ton of cards, but I think the pros outweigh the cons there. They would have to draw each combo piece, since any that were on the battlefield no longer are. Lands coming in untapped is a huge bonus, and you get to recast stuff first.
Pretty huge nonbo with Nykthos, though. At least with Cradle if you draw Avenger of Zendikar you can start getting mana again.
Just got blown out the other night with an overloaded Cyclonic Rift right when I was swinging to take out the table. Not really sure what to put in here that can deal with that. I used to run Null Brooch simply as a way of being able to counterspell effects like this, but it was obviously too weak in most situations.
Alas, there is not much we can do against Cyclonic Rift. Null Brooch is a nice idea, but you'd have to sneak it via Vedalken Orrery bc you know the blue player is bouncing that before he Rifts.
Aye, Cyclonic Rift is just one of those cards that will always be your nemesis. After all, let's be honest, it's an auto-include for any blue deck in addition to one of the archetypal cards that people play to "punish overextenders."
Sometimes you just have to take your lumps. At least if you get to potentially re-buy ETB value creatures.
Here's my Omnath deck, which has been evolving for many years. What I've been doing lately is removing the "staples" of what you would see in a mono-G or Omnath deck such as Craterhoof Behemoth, Boundless Realms, and Praetor's Counsel, among others. My reasoning behind these removals is that some of these cards fall under the "win more" category and Craterhoof + Avenger is such a tired way to win. The next guy to go is going to be Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger - haven't decided who's filling the void yet, but I have some finalists in mind.
Feel free to add any suggestions and if you have time head over to my deck and give it some love on tappedout
I play Omnath pretty religiously and have been for about 2 years.
So far I can win pretty easily and compete against most decks. The ones I struggle the most against are token strats and counter decks aren't too much of an issue so Hall of Gemstone and Leyline of Lifeforce are cut for more ramp for the time being. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is making his way in at some point to deal with token strats (really easily too, cutting Vigor.) I REALLY want to put in From Beyond but I'm not running a crazy amount of eldrazis to make the second ability more useful. Greenwarden of Murasa might find his way in since his ability is too useful.
Just a quick update. I tried playing with both Animist's Awakening and Elemental Bond as I'd stated previously. Unfortunately they both did exactly what I initially predicted: not enough.
I also haven't had a chance to test with any BFZ cards yet for a couple reasons. First, I've gone back to school and so I just don't have as much time for Magic as I have for the past several years. Secondly, my playgroup has been on a downswing lately, as in only 3 or 4 people have been showing up lately which makes it hard to get games in. I keep reminding people to come out and they say they will... and then they don't. It's frustrating. I'm hoping for an uptick though with the release of the C15 products.
I noticed you don't really run mana dorks. Do you not like how weak they are to board wipes? Are they too low-impact? Are you comfortable doing nothing turn 1 and feel confident that your deck can still ramp up to big stuff before your opponents get set up?
Trying to build an Omnath deck myself and I know it's an incredibly flexible deck. However my other generals are Norin and Brago, which are control/lockout decks, so I'm not too familiar with this strategy in EDH. Thanks for your input!
This is from the archive, this list is old.
The current list can be found on the wizards site or on the commander site.

I do want to test out Shaman of Forgotten Ways.
Omnath, Locus of Mana
Karn Liberated
Extraplanar Lens
Mind's Eye
Exploration
Mirri's Guile
All Is Dust
Scapeshift
Greater Good
I plan on picking these up over time for sure since I really like them, but if you were to order them by importance, what would that look like?
Thanks!
Sorry I haven't been active lately. I was recently hospitalized and had major surgery, and am still in recovery mode, which will take a long time.

No problem, hope you get well soon!
I appreciate the work you put into this and I'm enjoying the deck a lot. Thanks for the help and guidance!
Thanks for making that ridiculousness possible.
