Why run Maralen? What support do you have for her, that makes her better than all the other great legends in her colors? Your opponent can just tutor for kill spells next turn, and screw you over. What cards support her? (Note: I'm not saying that she's a bad general, but I am asking why her.)
Yea i'd definetly throw in some combos so you can abuse maralen if left untouched (though she won't). It is unfortunate that Painter/Grindstone is banned, the simplest mono color combo to assemble, is banned. the umbral mantle one suggested is a fine idea,
As a mono color general, unfortunetly i just can't see maralen being a very competitive general, but thats the beauty of EDH, you don't need all decks to be competitive =p
The thing about Maralen is her awesome ability... is used by your opponent(s) first. If you're playing 1 on 1, your opponent may not tutor up a kill spell for her, but they get the first option of tutoring up a spell to kill you instead. They may have a combo in their deck that requres X cards and they are now one step closer to acheiving that combo. Maralen really needs Blue back up to function properly, which is impossible in EDH with her as a general.
If you're playing multi-player, then all your opponents get a chance to tutor up before you. I've thought about making a Maralen deck, but I couldn't come up with a good enough theme to make it worth it.

-2 Swamps, +1 Vault Skirge, +1 Exsanguinate. That way, you can kill everyone else without killing yourself. Also, -1 Swamp, +1 Boseiju, so they can't counter your junk. Add some tutors, go nuts.

id go with the 90+ swamp one half the people are suggesting. all the other wins-cons seem too expensive for this deck, as ur opponent tutors first and may find the answer. ad nauseum, sickening dreams is a must and the ramp will help but id also toss in a duress and an inquisition of kozilek to help pull any counters out of their hand they may have tutored for to stop you. i wouldnt worry about kill spells as if u pop her off t3 latest u should be able to combo off t4. i doubt they will have creauture to kill u that early or stop it except maybe glen-elendra which the persist will bring it back anyways.
I'm sure it's been said but you have to be VERY careful what table you sit down at with a Maralen of the Mornsong deck. She gets a bad rap for being an annoying Ad Nauseum combo general, but what's even worse is if it's a mean deck (I made her a discard deck, figured they couldn't do much with what they tutored for if they were bottlenecked to 1 spell a turn, for the most part). but as a result I found that because of this people would go "cool. Leyline of the void. *turn passes* Helm of Obedience. Now Obey me, and die."
This particular combo is funny, because it isn't until a player removes Maralen that I'll actually die (Library is exiled but I can't draw cards.) It's really fun if you're playing a casual group who isn't running infinite combos or things of the sort, it really does stimulate a different kind of play.
If you insist on Maralen, Tawnos's Coffin Is really tech for maralen though if you can get your hands on it (20$ish). You can use it to bottle her up after your upkeep for 3Mana, then at untap just untap the coffin and she comes back in time for upkeep. It's also just a REALLY good card in general, as it is an o-ring that can change targets..
I wanted to make a deck with this general because I don't play with heavy infinite combo decks. Interesting suggestions. I definitely see how Maralen could be quite annoying.

To stop people from drawing cards you could try Underworld Dreams, Chains of Mephistopheles or Possessed Portal. For protection you've also got Whispersilk Cloak, Sword of Fire and Ice and Sword of Light and Shadow though with her ability your opponent should be able to deal with her pretty easily no matter how you try and protect her. How about Winding Canyons and Vedalken Orrery to be able to use her ability first?
