Yes I am yet another person going for thromak. I have the general Idea and i am gabbing half the deck already that came with him in planechase 2012.
However I am not lost, with only about 50 cards now. My land base is done. I am okay with that. Its the deck where my issues begin. I need ideas on what to add. Should i go for more token generation. Maybe larger creatures. Help me out here. I have checked the deck database but as usual some cards are out of my price range. I rather have the deck list finished when i go shopping rather than ask for cards, realize I don't have the cash, and then cry a little inside.
Token producers is definatly the way to go. Creatures like Siege Gang Commander or cards like Awakening Zone. Make thromok huge and Fling him like a boss.
as much use as that hold, i have a sneaky feeling it doesn't fit into my budget.
Yes I was aware of that but many of those cards do. Just pack and choose what you can afford/have/can trade for and go from there I cant hold your hand the entire way.
yea plus half of those cards I do have a copy of. I just need to see what i am missing after deck construction with what i already have. then fix the loose ends.
GU Experiment Kraj- all your abilities belong to us WB Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts- battlecruiser GUB The Mimeoplasm- when graveyards are not safe RGW Mayael the Anima- i luv the fatties
Harmonize and Reforge the Soul are good, cheap options for drawing cards in red-green, and Wheel of Fortune does similar things if you can afford it. If nothing else, you can add Temple Bell and make some [temporary] friends with it.
As for your deck, Thromok is fun because it can switch between killing people with a giant general or with a swarm of tokens. For awhile, I was running Trailblazer's Boots and Whispersilk Cloak to make sure Thromok got through. Giving him trample with things like Rancor and Brawn (in your graveyard) as well as haste via Anger and Lightning Greaves are good as well.
TempestShadow basically covered it with the list of token generators and I don't have much to add to it, though you could use add Conjurer's Closet to make more tokens with your "army in a can" guys and generally get more mileage out of your ETB creatures.
You said you want to know what you're missing. I run a very successful Thromok deck on MTGO, and it has the following components (mostly mentioned already, but not condensed as follows):
Tokens
You only need five to eat, six-seven is better if you plan to fling too or if you need to trample through blockers. Avenger of Zendikar and Hornet Queen are all-stars. Kher Keep is useful. Don't forget Doubling Season, Parallel Lives and friends. Verdant Force seems good but I never get her to work. Dragon Broodmother is excellent. Symbiotic Wurm and other symbiotics are options. Penumbras too. Sekki, Season's Guide never works for me but fits the theme. Anything that gives you more than one token is key - 2 for 1 is not fast enough for Thromok's ideal.
Draw
I'm a personal fan of Momentous Fall - it seems to be underplayed and is incredibly useful surprise-sac outlet and life/draw source. Also, Greater Good, Sensei's Divining Top, Mind's Eye. There are others that draw based on the number / highest power of creatures you control... just search a bit if you need more options.
The cards I listed are decent sources, but any cards that offer the utility under those headings are all you need for effective Thromok. Try to get 4-6 or more cards which do each in your deck. You don't really need regen/resiliency because you drop Thromok and attack same turn. Since your colors don't have a lot of ways to avoid counterspells (you CAN, but the cards that give you the choice are more often dead draws-- running them is up to you), normally you either succeed or you don't. Your target dies and you move on to the next one... or you try again another turn.
Instead of trying to hand-pick what best to recommend you, I'll just cram my Thromok list in this here spoiler:
(Note: NOT budget-focused, plenty of rares)
Not the most direct, comprehensive answer to your budget quest, more an example of a possible build and direction to take things, as well as a bunch of stuff that works well with my man Insatiable.
Highly aggressive and permanent-focused, token & counter synergy is mainly used for more combat advantage and wipe recovery.
Hope it can help.

A few more ideas. As your going to likely eat alot of your own stuff some recursion might be ideal. I'd suggest something like Creeping Renaissance, it gets back any creatures that you've had wrathed or ate and is pretty much the definition of a dollar rare. Warstorm surge is also a dollar and goes well with the giant creature idea.
Ashnod's Altar is great in my version. Definitely helps if you have LTB effects, but not always necessary. I run it alongside Mitotic Ooze for hilarity. Also likes to eat undeveloped AoZ tokens and Awakening Zone / Kher Keep tokens.
*EDIT: I don't like Dragonmaster, I'd generally prefer a basic land to build my ramp strategy, or a Sol Ring / Top to drop T1. Other people run him and have some luck. I dunno... seems like a good way to draw hate before you're ready to deal with it, IMO. Also, a long wait before the tokens come out. OTOH, you're not investing a lot into him (aside from a card slot) so if you like it, go with it.

One last suggestion from me would be to run creature ramp like Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Solemn Simulacrum, and Seedguide Ash so you can feed them to Thromok after you've used them to ramp. Personally, I run these guys in addition to Explosive Vegetation and Cultivate, as my Thromok build just wants to ramp early game.
This site is more useful though, probably due to the fact that it has the more serious MTG players who know what they are talking about.
Would Skarrg Guildmage, Signal the clans and Rubblehulk be worthwhile?

Evasion Sources
Craterhoof Behemoth, Brawn, Loxodon Warhammer, Kessig Wolf Run, Rogue's Passage, Whispersilk Cloak

Ramp
Sakura-Tribe Elder. Viridian Emissary. Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Primal Growth, Solemn Simulacrum, Explosive Vegetation, Skyshroud Claim, Seedguide Ash, Boundless Realms. Mana Reflection and Doubling Cube are actually overkill in this deck, but good if you have them. You're in the best ramp color in Magic, this part should be easy. Of note: creature based ramp spells are slightly better on average, because Thromok can eat them.
Fling
Grab the Reins and Soul's Fire too!

Of those three cards, only Skarrg Guildmage appears to have synergy with the deck, but YMMV.
