Oh! I haven't forgotten Mindlock Orb. I still don't like how that card hurts me too but I guess I can always play it after I Trinket Mage for Sol Ring...
I play a lot of symmetrical hosers in my decks like City of Solitude, Humility & Mindlock Orb and I can assure you this will hose the decks they are designed to hose far more than they will hose you since you can not only build your deck around it but decide when it lands and worse case scenario you can bounce it or smash it. My Rhys deck plays both City of Solitude and Humility and it has a general with an activated ability that now has to be used at sorcery speed only and I run 20 creatures!
I got the Mindlock Orb in there. Foil was only 59 cents
I originally cut Mulldrifter, but I decided it was too good a card and I cut Mystical Tutor for its nonbo with Mindlock Orb and because Gamble is already in the deck. If anyone thinks I should have cut anything else, I'd love to hear about it.
I'm perfectly fine with Mystical Tutor being cut from the deck now. Obviously it's the first card to come back in if I ever cut Mindlock Orb but right now I'm getting a kick out the idea of screwing up tutors.
Another change I made recently was to cut Draining Whelk for Conquering Manticore. Manticore is much better with my sac outlets and he is just as abusable with Crystal Shard and such. He also remains a fine beater and sword-delivery system. With the Whelk, I hated having to wait for a spell big enough to counter with all that mana up. So oh well, one less counterspell. I don't really miss it right now but we'll see down the road if I need more than just Forbid, Hinder and Venser...
i'm currently pointing toward making a nin deck.
I searched for creatures that do something when dealt damage, and creature that do something when being put in the graveyard.
What do you think about those:
So here's the thing with a decent Nin deck- from the way mine plays anyway, you just aren't going to get to use her ability that many times. The board gets wrathed all the time and she's a removal magnet. So the thing is, when you build your deck around cards that need to be hit by her ability to be good, you risk having a pile of crappy cards when she isn't around. This is why I prefer utility creatures that do good things when they enter the battlefield rather when they hit the graveyard- that way you get value out of them no matter what and they are good even if they don't get hit by Nin (see Manic Vandal, Vendillion Clique, Chancellor of the Spires, etc.)
That said, let's go through these:
Deep-slumber titan- If you were to focus on pingers and ways to get that damage around, he could be all right. The payoff is pretty good. I don't like how much work you need to put into him though and he has no evasion to get through blockers.
Coalhauler swine- It's an interesting rattlesnake. He could work, wouldn't you rather just play a dragon here like Flameblast Dragon?
Blazing effigy- I like it. Efficiently costed removal and a rattlesnake to keep people from attacking you.
Mogg Maniac- Also good. I used to have him at one point but he got cut for more utility guys.
Rushing-tide zubera- Another good target and good blocker. Most attackers do way more than four damage in this format so I think he's a great sleeper defensive card that gives you Ancestral Recall when he blocks anything big. BONUS TECH: Play Inferno as one of your sweepers.
Burning Eye Zubera- The effect is too small on this guy if you ask me. 3 damage doesn't even compare to drawing three cards.
Stuffy doll- I play him. He's the perfect target for Nin and is a late-game win-con when you have mana to use.
Magma phoenix- He kills Nin. I don't like it. I guess it's great anti-token tech. Shard Phoenix is much better, I think, though I wouldn't play that either with a 1/1 Commander.
Aura Thief- This guy is a PRO. He likes to steal mana doublers and other beneficial enchantments.
Now again, don't focus too much on these. Just play the really good ones and move on. You don't have to play a deck with a bunch of guys that have to die to be good- Nin's ability is so strong that you can hit practically anything you want and you are sure to get insane amounts of value. Even if you just hit a 4-toughness guy for 3 damage, you have already gained ridiculous value for your mana. Just play the best creatures you can and maybe a few tricksy guys like these.
I built a nin deck, but mine is more of the "Infinite mana" type. i have like 4 combos that create infinite mana. Basically you literally have to kick a Sadistic sacrement to get rid of all my combos. and that is if you are quick enough to not only see the infinite mana combos but also get rid of them before I play them. I can force you to draw 100 cards, i can fireball you for infinite, I can just do a stuffy beatdown (Then bonce and replay him if i kill someone.)
It will get hate but at least i have a goal and it CAN be stopped. Will it i don't know. But I have been doing enough test plays that people have seen it in action.
also
Ashnod's alter + Dominous of Fealty... actually Play dominous, nothing better than having a threaten each turn, FOR ANY PERMANANT! And to add to it, he is a 4/4 flying, with that ability for 5 Hybrid U/R mana. He just has win written on him.
I THINK YOU MISSED AN IMPORTANT COMBO WITH NIN: STUFFY DOLL WITH RITE OF REPLICATION. oppps sorry for caps. rite is used to replicate stuffy doll for multiple opponents.
I THINK YOU MISSED AN IMPORTANT COMBO WITH NIN: STUFFY DOLL WITH RITE OF REPLICATION. oppps sorry for caps. rite is used to replicate stuffy doll for multiple opponents.
Did you check the decklist?
That's a terrible way to use Rite of Replication. So instead of copying Chancellor of the Spires 5 times, I should copy a blocker?
The one I'm not happy about cutting is the Tower of the Magistrate but I can't have too much colorless land and adding Miren allowed me to cut Ashnod's Altar for Shimmer, a solution for greedy mono-green and mono-black ramp decks in my meta. Mindlock Orb is also out, which of course means Mystical Tutor is back in. Last time I had to bounce it with Venser to save my butt from an elf army with Gamble-->All is Dust I decided that I would cut it.
I still want to get Mana Vault in here. Should I cut Everflowing Chalice for it or something else?
I'm also thinking about proxying Imperial Recruiter. I'm not paying for one (PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE be reprinted someday).
I really like your deck and I'm curious to see how well it plays. I think I might download it so I can try it out on MWS. Anyway, some suggestions:
Have you considered running Stranglehold, the new and improved version of Mindlock Orb?
Replacing Everflowing Chalice with Mana Vault sounds like a good idea too, although I've grown to appreciate Mana Crypt slightly more than the Vault. It does 3 damage to you every other turn or so but your deck should be able to handle that.
GOD DAMN FIGHT THE MAN, MAN!!! GRRRRRRR REBEL MAN YEAH!!! GET OUT YOUR TIE-DYE T-SHIRTS AND SOME ATOGS WITH PEACE SIGNS MAN! YEAH! LETS GROW OUR HAIR OUT LONG AND COLOR ON OUR MAGIC CARDS WITH SILVER SHARPIES TO REBEL! YEEEEAH!
Thanks for the compliment :-). I really hope you enjoy playing it. I have won many games with it and I am only stopping because I'll be deconstructing it soon to make a Riku deck (WIP in my sig).
I'm definitely going to switch chalice for vault by the way. Thanks. As far as stranglehold goes, it's got two problems here. There's only one way to tutor for it (Gamble) and it costs 4 mana, which I find too high to stop green ramp, which is what I'd like it to do the most. YMMV though so check it out if you're interested. Testing is better than me sitting here theorycrafting anyway.
Good luck with it! One solid suggestion for when you play. Don't feel like you have to run Nin out turn two. She is so solid that if you get even one or two uses out of her mid-to-late game you will almost certainly have the answers you need. Also, if you're playing online you may have access to cards I didn't budget-wise. So Mana Drain, Crypt, etc would be a huge plus there.
Goblin Settler strictly better, however you never really need to strip a basic land in EDH. Also without a goblin tutor package there is little other benefit here. She costs $10 for what I consider a very small upgrade over a $0.30 rare.
Goblin Gardener doesnt strip until it dies. Destroying when it comes into play is just better. It sucks to wait to get your effect and unless nin is in play he might have to wait to strip a problem land. The current selection blows up the land when he wants then he can still cycle it off for more cards to nin.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
I like having LD on a body. Copiable and repeatable with Crystal Shard. He's the most reasonable choice. And let me tell you, I love the look on people's faces when they read the card and have to toss their Cradle or Coffers in the yard (and they are both prevalent in my meta). It's better than you think.
And Goblin Settler is NOT strictly better. The baboons have an interaction with Cauldron of Souls that the Settler does not, not to mention its increased P/T.
I don't play on updating this deck with the new cards yet because I'm tearing it down to make Riku (list in my sig), so you will see it lag behind going forward.
When used with Cauldron of Souls, Goblin Settler still returns to play and hits its comes into play ability and immediately dies for being a 0 toughness guy. You still get the trigger on it so unless you stick Cauldron + Kiki I dont see it being a problem. I guess you could argue that you can still use Ravenous Baboons as either a chump blocker or to toss it into Nin for card draw after persisting. Either way I do not see it being much of a change that I would be willing to drop $10 on it when I for one feel the Baboons is very adequate for the job.
Good luck with your Riku list. He looks absolutely bonkers. Best of the new commanders in my eyes.

Yeah I like having the 1/1 around to ping with Nin. Otherwise, yeah, it would be kind of derpy to play 4 CMC over 3 in a vacuum.
When I take this apart next week I'm going to have to add [ON HIATUS] or something to the thread title so people know I'm not babysitting it like I will be with Riku. Or heck, maybe I will be, who knows? Actually my next project is to cop off some of Donald's Rhys primer for my wife, who's now very happy with her shiny new Foil Rhys.
Thanks for your well wishes btw. I very much appreciate the help and I am so excited to be playing a copystick for a general I can't really contain it :D. Uyo has so much against her with the land-return cost and the mono-blue and the 6CMC that this guy just blows her away.
I haven't played this deck for a couple of months but I do have a record of the last time I sleeved it up. I could get around to updating it I suppose. It would seem Undying would be a great mechanic for the deck but I'm not sure how many U/R guys are worth playing in EDH have it (spoiler alert- almost none :-/). Soulbound is cool because you can use Nin to break pairs for resetting them later, like with Lightning Mauler.
Dracoplasm does fit with the steal and sac theme but I feel like he seems a little win more to me. You don't usually want to be sacrificing your own guys (at sorcery speed, no less) unless it's to Nin, in which case drawing cards seems a lot better than this guy since we probably aren't running a lot of huge dudes.
From AVR block let's see:
Blashpemous Act is the best red sweeper now IMO so that's in.
Snapcaster Mage is great as he is basically guaranteed CA and a nice body to shoot with Nin.
Sturmgeist is in for me. Maro creatures are boss since you can't kill them with Nin's ability, they just get huge. Flying Maro creatures that draw you cards on their own? Even better. I love this guy.
I want to try out Beguiler of Wills as I move towards having more creatures in the deck (more guys to shoot). With Greaves around I feel like she could be pretty good. I like her more than Empress Galina, which costs extra mana, can only get legends, and is a huge hate target.
Bonfire of the Damned I want to try out in all my decks with Mystical Tutor. Just seems like a hot wincon when you aren't sure Bribery will do the trick.
I know I used to play a lot more ETB guys before I moved on to steal n sac but if you are focusing on ETB then Conjurer's Closet and Deadeye Navigator could be good for sure.
Devastation Tide is another one I will be trying in all my decks to supplement Evacuation. Don't know how it fits here specifically though.
Elgauld Shieldmate is a fine way to protect Nin from removal. And since they're both hexproofed, you can shoot for 2 all day :).
Grafdigger's Cage is superb graveyard hate in place of or to supplement Relic of Progenitus.
Balefire Dragon is a respectable card if you are big on Greaves/Swiftfoot Boots.
Malignus should be near impossible to kill with Nin and is huge instead of some Darksteel noob. Don't know if I'll play him because I prefer trample on my beaters but he is stupid well costed. Worth noting he should EASILY live through Blasphemous Act, while nothing else should, freeing him up for a big swing.
Nephalia Smuggler is cool if you have ETB guys and are tutoring for Training Grounds with Gamble or Dizzy Spell, a card I just discovered recently. I tried to make a Training Grounds-type deck a while back with her but I just wasn't impressed enough with it.
Reforge the Soul is another wheel. When you play with Maro creatures and guys like Psychosis Crawler you always have to think about this. I would rather not have my opponents drawing cards most of the time but the miracle cost does make it tempting and I do play Wheel of Fortune already. Also great with Cerebral Vortex, a card I finally got a hold of and intend to play here.
Tamiyo, the Moon Sage is a reasonable threat that can draw some serious business. Won't be buying one but I wouldn't be unhappy to play her in a creature build. My personal issue with her is that Tezzeret the Seeker is at least 3 times better than her in this deck for the same mana cost. -3 for Vedalken Shackles alone is SO GOOD.
Tandem Lookout is another way to go infinite with Niv-Mizzet. I avoid this, personally.
Temporal Mastery is a cute trick with Mystical Tutor but not worth the slot IMO. If you can't abuse it then that's all it is- a cute trick.
Zealous Conscripts is GOLD. He does go infinite with Kiki-Jiki though so I am not crazy about playing both at the same time because I lack discipline at the table and if the combo is in my deck I will play worse (and be a worse guy to play with) just to try to assemble it. I love this guy.
Some colorless lands... Desolate Lighthouse is a great land. Instant speed loot is fantastic and lets the deck find more gas if Nin is having trouble sticking. Cavern of Souls is cool if you have one as naming Wizard can get you some mileage. In both cases though I don't like taking away from the Island count though because Vedalken Shackles is so good it is worth simplifying the manabase to play it.
