This was my first EDH deck that I made. I have changed some cards with the new expansions, but mainly the core is the same that Blaine had.
Blaine's original deck tried to be as fast as possible and looked like it was made mainly for 1 vs 1 competition play.
I have changed this slowly bit more towards multiplay. Some artifact mana costs bit more than originally while having some additional special effect and I have not included every reasonable possible artifact mana into the deck.
Most of the Karn combos are in there. Some of these usually work as wincons or at least soft-locks. In fact, most of the stuff in the deck combos somehow with something else :
- Voltaic Construct + Karn + plethora of artifacts that make 3 or more mana
- Ring of Brighthearth + Basalt Monolith
- Mycosynth lattice (+ Karn)
- Inkmoth Nexus (or just any creature) + Golem Artisan (with infinite mana)
- Infinite mana + Goblin cannon
- Infinite mana + Karn + voltaic construct + whatever (Planar portal, Goblin cannon, tower of fortunes, Spine of Ish Sah+Krark-clan Ironworks, Erratic portal(with Duplicant/Triskelion), ...)
I've run Ol' Silverbutt for quite some time now. I like your list, but it looks like you'd get to much mana too often and not enough business.
Admittedly, my list is a little skewed - it's to show off cool old cards and to play nice with the others. I've found this deck to be great - but not hermit druid or sharuum great. We tend to play mostly casual multiplayer with our generals shuffled in around here anyways.
This deck mostly wants explosive start with lots of mana. But I haven't played enough to really see if I have too much manastones in now. Usually I'm pretty fast, but sometimes I just don't find the correct pieces to do anything relevant.
Your deck is more suitable for multiplayer and prolonged fights. I have lost the edge if I need to continue more than 4 rounds or so.
