So what do you guys think is going to happen tomorrow? Is Wizards coming down to 20 life? Are they banning Vial, Baral, Emrakul or Tasigur or whatever? Are they going to adopt Leviathan's banlist (or get closer to it). Are they going to make a 25 life format? What do you guys think?
The BEST thing, would be to make this sham of a format a clone to current Duel-Commander.
Vial Smasher the Fierce is banned
Ponder is banned.
Preordain is banned.
Brainstorm is banned.
Treachery is banned.
Biorhythm is unbanned.
Limited Resources is unbanned.
Painter’s Servant is unbanned.
Trade Secrets is unbanned.
Lmao.
They banned cantrips?? What the heck?? And treachery too? Sure, the card is a beating, but it is a "fair" beating. I don't understand what is the philosophy of banning of this format. It seems that they realized blue is too good at 30 life and instead of dropping life totals they're trying to do what we joked about, i.e.: banning every single redundant blue effect until blue is not good anymore. Next bans will be counterspell, mana leak, memory lapse, remand and miscalculation.

Nah, the cantrips bans are dumb because they make no difference at all. What I'm really, really bummed out is the lack of a name change for the format... Guess we'll always have to deal with "is the commander on saturday going to be multiplayer or 1v1?" bull*****.

I disagree. It does make a small but noticable difference imo. I actually suggested this a while ago and I'm really curious to see if it will work.
Besides the fact that Treachery is not remotely comparable in power to cards that warrant a ban, I take objection to their description too:
Aside from strong card selection, Treachery is one of the few cards played in nearly every blue deck, largely from its sheer power. When drawn, it’s a card that provides a tempo swing that’s often impossible to recover from, and when looking for ways to weaken this style of deck it’s a clear enough outlier in strength to warrant a ban.
I will add... I thought this format would mean the death of Duel Commander, in very short order. Wizards sanctioning adds a huge credibility to a format, and allows players to easily speak a common language without knowledge of specific web forums or facebook groups or bookmarks to banlists. But the idiotic bumbling around the banlist for Wizards format is going to significantly hinder this process, making for a miserable transition between Duel Commander and their format. I honestly cannot believe how badly this is being botched.
I disagree, mikel23. Although I really think the tutors should've gone, NONE of what Wizards did so far is as absurd and ill-advised as the bans DC had last year.
Their choices doesn't make much sense, blue is strong indeed, but both Breya and Tasigur are banned in DC for a reason, also Baral and Jace have been nerfed on Leviathan for a reason, so its not just blue, these commanders are way too strong, if it was just blue the problem, Keranos, GAAIV, Jenara... and other well played commanders from back then would still be playing now, but they aren't because these just surpass them by far, there is no reason for color balancing before commander balancing. First they should get rid of those, and THEN if there is this problem, then they should go for cantrip nerfing.

I have had years of experience in 30 life 1v1. From that I think even if they banned the top 5 most used blue generals, blue would still be the meta. This is mainly for 2 reasons imo. 1) Blue is mainly designed to win in the end game. When increasing the life total, blue gains an advantage because it becomes easier to survive into the end game. 2)Blue's filtering effects are extremely powerful in singleton formats. It gets you to the cards you need more reliably than the other colours.
I don't think it's going to be a huge game changer but removing blue's most effecient filtering spells is a tiny step in the right direction of you don't want to lower the life total.
Edit: Lots of things need to happen in order to achieve an ideal banlist but I don't see any reason to assume that banning the generals are more important than fixing the inherent blue problem. Perhaps if this was fixed those generals wouldn't need to be banned. I doubt it but it doesn't hurt to rule out the possibility.
Vial Smasher makes sense but banning these other blue cards... come on, is this going to become again a paradise for people who like to complain about every card they don't play? I dislike a lot more when my opponent plays any Eldrazi titan that when they use Brainstorm, Ponder and Preordain.
Whatever. I don't know where you live, but here in Spain most LGS have started to follow the WOTC banlist, so I'm not happy. At least they banned The Fierce.

Before the glory of Yawgmoth, yes, even this makes sense.
these bans will annoy blue players for sure, but it won't really do much imo. cantrips don't make blue stronger, bringing life totals up to 30 does. i would have even preferred it if they kept the cantrips legal and just say "uh guys it's 30 life what do you expect just play blue lol" at least that way they'd be calling it like it is

a few stores are trying it out here as well, but french is still the predominant format luckily.
The discussion of 30HP vs 20HP doesn't take anywhere, I understand the power of blue and YES this approach does work and reduces blue's power, BUT I think almost if not, everyone here agrees Tasigur just breaks the whole "commander math" and is very powerful and would be banworthy even in DC 20HP, that Breya got banned on DC 20HP where blue takes a much smaller part of the meta and that Baral is a 300% improvement on the already strong on 30HP, but fair Polymorph Vendillion.
The thing is, these commanders are OP, I think blue CAN be nerfed a lot, so I agree with FearDReaper about that this can work, BUT I really think the broken commanders should go first, the blue commanders that are taking the meta today are all nerfed/banned on DC, so its not a fair fight saying they are dominating because of 30HP, they are dominating because Breya, Tasigur and the now banned Vial WOULD dominate DC 20HP as they already have done that, Baral is the only one that is fair on 20HP that isn't on 30HP, but thats more because Vendillion polymorph was basically unplayable on DC 20HP.
For me they should go first and THEN there should be an analysis on how to decrease the dominance if there is any still, they took the other way around, it can work, but it wouldn't be the route I would rather go.
Raizen, I disagree a lot with your conclusions. If you use the data we have to understand the format, Tasigur isn't even close to being broken. There's no reason to ban him right now whatsoever - Breya might be the next problem though.
Regarding Baral, I am for banning Emrakul instead, since it's a problem creature and the only really problematic Polymorph target - also banned in Leviathan. I'd also ban Vampiric, Mystical and maybe Imperial Seal to take out the broken 1 mana tutors off the format and make black not the obvious secondary color to play.

Do you really prefer losing pretty much all of blue's good cards over losing the 10lp safety net? Almost every card banned for this format has been blue card draw and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if the next bans are Serum Visions, Gitaxian Probe, Ancestral Vision and Breya
