Rough estimations, this is where I'd start with (note: zurgo just swaps places with kari zev, hence why you don't see him in these changes. he's already there.)
Two drops are gonna be super awkward if they compete with Kari Zev, so I adapted to fit more ones and the lightning serpent is the flex spot that can fill anywhere on your curve. Can't believe I never considered that guy ages ago because he's perfect. Coldsnap was weird.
I'm also working on a Kari-Zev list for Duel. Most of the changes I made are the obvious two drop for one drop swaps. I should finish the list and start play testing it in the next two weeks.

Updated the list a bit more. I stopped playing Hero and a couple of other fours in an effort to lower the curve yet it was still in the list. I found the mix-ups though and it's current to-date. Also, I better organized the list by cmc I play cards at (flame jav being a 3 and not a six, heelcutter being a 3, etc) for a more accurate look at actual curve.
From a purely cosmetic stand point, the deck right now is ~80% foiled (not counting basics, which are "blinged" by virtue of being full-arts). This isn't really relevant, though I'm more surprised because I never thought I was the type to foil out a deck. That said, the foils left is like...Spike, Guide, fetches/port/cavern.....those really expensive foils that are considerably higher just because they're foil. So, yeah, I'm proud of where it's at. Who knew mono-AiR could be a $600+ deck.
Every time you try to get back up on the mono-red train, they slap you back down.
Is Vial smasher burn an option now?
MTGO 1v1 is not Duel-Commander. That said I would play Vial burn on modo because that means I can play Bob, k. command, and collective brutality though.
Yeah, some of the lieutenant cards this set are good for 1v1.
I played Kari-Zev for FNM this week since I haven't been able to play it much. I ended up losing to Glittering Lynx both games round 1. The next three rounds I won against players with bad or unrefined decks.

Sounds like you're not playing DC over there. Who plays Lynx? Why didn't you pay the 2?
Gonna try Reckless Rage over Sonic Burst. I like this spell to the face, but I also like how Kari makes light of the targeting restriction. Killing x/4s for 1 at instant speed is so good for red. I'll probably miss Sonic more, and then cry because there's no foil version.
Also found Dynacharge over Mercadia's Downfall as a more flexible blast that isn't bad vs mono color so I think it's better. Maybe we just want them all though.
I replaced Final Fortune with that because the reminder text is ohsotruthful with how we play. You can't lose if you've already won. Screw Last Chance, I'm a red deck, and I took that oath of the warrior.
I was so upset when I read they banned Zurgo, but now that I see this, I feel a little better. Minor adjustments, but the deck is still quite similar.
I was also wondering, hasve you considered Thud? It is similar to Collateral Damage and Reckless Abandon, the only thing being that it is variable on the power of the sacrificed creature. Are you not playing it because those cards are usually used with Ragavan? It would be 1 cmc for 2 damage, which I get is worse than 1 cmc for 3 or 4 damage, but if it is used on another creature, it could do even more damage, which would not be that bad.

The damage of it will always always be worse than reckless abandon and collateral damage both, plus with the slow speed makes it far, far worse than the other cards.
I've posted two decks here on the forums, and I was told by 3drinks that I should come here to get my deck fixed up. I think I did quite well for $150, but apparently it can be much better. I've gone 2-1 or 2-0-1 several times at the local tournament, and the occasional disappointing 0-3. My deck is posted at: https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/forum-1-vs-1-duel-commander/796888-kari-zev-french-duel-commander-sligh . My local meta consists of Rowan Kenrith and Will Kenrith walkers, Saskia, Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow fairies/ninjas, and we get the occasional green hard ramp, white weenie,U and U/X control decks, and Abzan Tempo. True-Name Nemesis, Umezawa's Jitte and large amounts of planeswalkers in the walkers deck get played and they usually wreck me. I really like the deck in the OP, and it would cost me around $350 to build it if I take my Kari Zev deck apart for parts. My only questions are: Would you recommend the deck in the OP for my meta? What purpose do the fetchlands serve? Why Mox Amber instead of Ruby Medallion or Fire Diamond? I know it's essentially a Mox Ruby when Kari Zev or Zurgo is out, but there are very few legendary creatures in it besides Kari Zev. Why no Skullcrack? I'm not really questioning your ability to build a deck, but answers to these questions will make me a better player and deck builder. Any help is appreciated.

"Cut it down, bury it in the snow, put it to the torch. The rose will still bloom again."
Why would you play Medallion or Diamond? What are you ramping into?
The answer is "you're not". While the Mox allows for explosive turns. There's enough legendaries to make sure it's on most times, especially on t2 when we cast our commander. Imagine suspending a rift bolt or a spark elemental after playing the commander, et al - the pressure this represents is insane.
Time is of the essence, especially against a hard control like the Walker twins you mentioned. Often the difference between a win and a loss is one turn.
Why no skullcrack? Because for 2 and player only targeting, I can Flame Rift for more damage.
All that makes a lot of sense. How about the fetch lands? Do they thin the deck any? In a 100 card deck it likely wouldn't be much, and you're not using them for color fixing. There must be a really good reason they're in there.

Sure. They feed my lavamancer and build my threshold. And while I'm not playing it, they can also trigger landfall too.
So I've done quite well with Browbeat, though it is not an easy card to utilize to it's fullest (sequencing matters!) Now we have a usually better version, and though 4 < 5, getting two casts and INSTANT speed is gonna change the game here. Looks like an easy swap to me.
Also, I was wondering what could be done with the new legendary swap rule, if it was possible to be abused in this deck. There is one card you removed from the deck that I think should go back in specifically for this: Zo-Zu the Punisher.
Maybe it is just me, but I think this makes it a lot easier to win heavy ramp matchups (for example, mono-green with commanders such as Titania or Nissa) and multicolor matchups. Since those decks will most likely play a lot of fetchlands and ramp, having access to a direct hate piece in the command zone could potentially be huge.
I also think that against Titania, if we can manage to get our commander down on T3, it comes down on the perfect turn to prevent Titania from sacrificing all of her lands and alpha strike the next turn.
What do you think? What was the reason you removed it from the deck?
So there was an event where three of the top 8 decks were Kari Zev (Yuriko was the 4th). Personally, I don't like any of them. But for discussion's sake...

I finished building my list two weeks ago, but haven't been able to test much. I'll post my thoughts and the list once they're a bit more refined.
Wish we could go Zurgo < apprentice because that would be the sickest start ever.
