In regards to the actual banlist, there isn't a single card that I think needs a ban and the only card I really don't think needs to be on the banlist is Winter Orb, and mostly just because it seems the commanders that abuse it the most are banned as well.
One thing I believe needs adjustment, is the amount of banned commanders. I agree with most of them but am thoroughly convinced both Rofellos and Braids are relics of a past era, that no longer are the threats they once were. The power level in this format has increased greatly since they were put on the list, and while they are both cheap and consistent I think the other decks in the format are doing things that are just as, or more, unfair.
Also, can somebody explain to me what about Derevii got it banned to quickly? I can see it being good but never got to see it in action.
I think Winter Orb is right where it belongs. Not only would GAAIV benefit from an unbanning, but elfball decks would be insane. Fast creature mana and they only untap Gaea's Cradle? Seems a bit too strong. It also slows down the format, which is not what people want on the whole.

Duel Commander enthusiast. Currently playing Grand Arbiter Augustin IV and Tasigur, the Golden Fang.
Well yeah but t2 4/4 which grows your other creatures also hurts..
I mean it would probably be (very) strong but its 2/2 on turn 3. I agree that with insane draws you could play her turn 1 or 2 but what then?
hahaha, t2 4/4 definitely hurts! but I think Ana and Dooran being tricolored is it's weakness also... braids being mono B gives it more consistency... it will definitely hurt control and other slow decks.
I get Rofellos is pretty scary, and was a nightmare in traditional 1v1 EDH, but c'mon guys, he's in mono green. Zero interaction with combo outside of grave hate, and if you can keep rofellos off the board the deck is very clunky with overcosted removal and threats which almost every deck is currently prepared to handle as long as they come down in a timely fashion. The fact that people are insta winning with things like food chain, or mimeo combos really puts a clock on the format like they are trying to do with modern. If you arn't very far ahead or packing serious disruption by turn five or earlier, you're going to watch your opponent goldfish games. I can't see how Rofellos, even at it's best, is scarier than losing instantly turn 4.
Has anyone taken the time to read Braids lately? one artifact, creature, or land per upkeep. I'm not sure how that's oppressive with the current power level of the format. There really isn't as much targeted discard as a traditional black dead in a constructed format would have, and Braid's has a four mana body that just screams 'kill me' and once that general costs 6/8 no game plan calls for recasting a bad smokestack, while the better decks of the format go straight over the top of you.
As far as winter orb goes, I don't actually want it unbanned. I just wasn't sure it needed to be. Making control (GAA/narset/ect) would actually be a good thing with the current meta in my opinion. And making elfball 'insane' is a stretch because as far as I can tell the only reason to run a ton of elves is because of Prosh, so saying it's because of cradle is not a goof example. Two cards interacting that are hard to tutor for in a 100 card singleton format should never be a reason for banning cards. Interaction with generals? absolutely. But drawing deceiver exarch + kiki does not make either of those cards bannable, for example.
imo, rofellos is banned because it enables SO MUCH MANA EARLY GAME... sure there are removals but that ain't always the case, so yeah rofellos is just insane... and mono green is not without tricks and add to that early game disruption powered by fast mana means early timewalks.
I love playing braids in my abzan... and she has won me A LOT of games after dropping her t3... t1 and t2 disruption will probably just make it an easier wincon... she will not be great versus very fast weenie deck but those are not prevalent in any meta... braids will wreck control definitely if it gets unbanned.
Winter orb got banned becoz of GAA abuse right? Right now a lot of combo decks are creature based ones so they can utilize this more if unbanned, again preying on control...
maybe it's just the lack of control here in our meta hahaha
To be honest, have you played with/against any of the commanders you mentioned Lemon? Because even if they are 'old relic' bans, they still ring true. Rofellos is dumb to play against. Unless you have early counter magic or early removal, he's gonna land something monstrous into play, no doubt. When he was being played, the play: T1 Worldly Tutor/Slyvan Tutor for Titan, T2 Rofellos, T3 Titan, fetch Cradle/Wasteland basically ended a game on T3. I can't tell you how many of those games I played against and cursed at my computer. It's just straight up not fun to play against.
Braids is something to be looked at, but still insanely powerful. As someone pointed out, it really messes with control decks which rely on out-tempoing and out-drawing you. But they are often nullified with a T3 Braids drop. Plus combine that with Discard and all the cheap artifacts the deck was playing at the time, you end up just cruising to easy victories unless they immediately answer the Braids. I'm not opposed to testing Braids, but definitely don't let Rofellos off the list

Oh absolutely, i've even won a fairly large 1v1 tournie with Rofellos but that was years ago and 1v1 decks now are tuned to run curves similar to legacy and dealing with two mana permanents is something that decks playing with a card pool this powerful should be able to do, and the banlist should not have to account for people not include the tools in their deck to interact with the most easily answered permanents. Even the 'devastating' sequence you describe folds to force spike/thoughtseize/bolt and a ridiculous amount of other efficient answers. If you don't plan on interacting with the green strategy, decks are winning in a similar time frame in which Rofellos is tapping out for a 6/6. Of course any deck with a commander as explosive and cheap as Rofellos can have nuts draws but that's magic and should also not be a reason for banning. Also, 'fun' is subjective and a poor qualification for a ban.
Braid's really has very few explosive draws that are hard to interact with and in reality has a very slow clock. While having a deck prepared to function with braids in play gives the braids player a huge advantage, you still have to cast a 4 mana creature in mono black to make that happen, and without braids in play the same cards that makes it oppressive (land D, Sphere of Resistance, ect) are actually very clunky without supplemental permanent/mana denial in the form of braid's triggers.
I'm not saying they need to be unbanned (which only two were brought up for discussion by the way, so i'm not sure why you felt it necessary to try and discredit my knowledge of the archetypes themselves as if that's some vast amount), but I believe it's worth considering them in the context of the format that they would actually be in, as opposed to just assuming your anecdotal evidence of you not taking a few losses well should be a decisive indicator of powerlevel. I believe bitterblossom was the last victim of this flawed mentality and yet here we are, not a faerie token in sight.
Yeah ,I also have the same quesetion...
Funny thing is , Wang himself also thought his deck should be categorized into "Prossh Ramp", not "Food Chain Prossh" after the last tournament, so he intended took the "Food Chain" out of his deck at this tournament.;)

I think earthcraft needs banned. IMHO foodchain is less of a problem then earthcraft since it requires that you commit creatures to use it. All earthcraft needs to be effective is any basic land. It gets wven dumber when the nasic starts tapping for 2+ mana. I concure prossh needs something banned the dexk has amazing resources and can just win via combo
Earthcraft dosnt require the commitment that foodchain does. To go and combo off food chain the turn its cast you need another card. Juat going inf with foodchain by itself or putting up enough kobalds to do 21 general is a great way to get blown out.
If you won't combo off in the same turn you go infinite with food chain, you usually don't cast it... depends on the mu of course... but still food chain hurts more than earthcraft becasue it can go infinite...

Greetings. As I am rather new to Duel Commander and I have read many topics regarding commanders but I still have a question to ask: in all honesty I'm bored of all the same commanders everywhere so I thought - are any BR aggro-styled decks capable of winning?
My first idea was Lyzolda/Exava/Mogis for a commander. My meta mainly consists (=playing on regular basis) of Skittles, Narset, Prossh (no Food Chain), Animar (goodstuff), Varolz (combo) and Rafik (voltron/goodstuff).
Is there any chance for my colour combination/game style to win considering the opponents, card pool and no budget - generally speaking?
PS: If not, I had a plan B - a complete control deck going wither mono U, UB or Esper colours (Sharuum being the commander let's say). Could this beat something? (again in general)
Thoughts, opinions? Thanks in advance!
The most competetive BR General I know is Grenzo, as it can play the aggro mode - in combination with it's moon effects. And can also combo other decks out of nowhere. Although Grenzo is primarily a combo deck, it can still win via-Aggro if you lock out the mana of other decks playing many non-basic lands, with your moon effects.
Although I have seen Olivia Voldaren used in a competetive tournament before, but I don't remember the cards the player used, as I did not get to watch his matches for long periods.
Esper, UB, and Mono-U generals can in General beat other decks. Those are all control colors, and the combination of counterspells, great removal spells, card draw, and tutors make them pretty good against an unknown metagame. You can find lists of those from Vendilion Clique, Thassa, Talrand, Wydwen, and Sen-Triplets/Sharuum, also in different threads in this same 1v1 Forum. No need for me to give you any lists.

Funny thing is , Wang himself also thought his deck should be categorized into "Prossh Ramp", not "Food Chain Prossh" after the last tournament, so he intended took the "Food Chain" out of his deck at this tournament.;)

Foodchain should really get banned... well that's just me.
Hey, all! I wanted to chime in to say that I'm going to be trying my hand at streaming on Twitch and starting with Duel Commander commentary. I'm not decided on a day yet, but it would mean SO MUCH to me if you subscribed to my channel to get alerts about when I go live. I love this community and I want to do more to see it grow. (This isn't totally unprecedented; I've been hosting a YouTube Let's Play show focused on Local Multiplayer gameplay for months now called Fourplay.)
