This is a simple question for experienced GAAIV players: why on earth do people play Oust over Path to Exile? What's the big upside to Oust that I don't see?
The problem is Oust doesn't really remove the creature from the game. And it's a sorcery. As an early removal it functions much like Memory Lapse: doesn't really get rid of the threat, just delays it. That can be important, I know, but most of the time I feel Path does a cleaner job.
I don't like playing PtE in duel commander. Especially now that the meta is control-oriented (GAA, Nin, Narset, Tasigur) it will most likely hit the general and PtE on a general gives them the opportunity to play it again next turn...It is especially bad in a deck that tries to tax the mana of the opponent and deny resources.
Could be ok in a very aggro meta but even then, it does very little against Titania (do you really want to PtE titania?).
Oust I don't know never played, but putting things back on top is good, Unexpectedly absent is a really good removal card in my opinion

Yeah, but it stops a lot of the combos present in the format. Exiling the creature is very relevant. The extra land is a pain, I know, but I still have no idea why Oust should be better. It wasn't, in my testings. Maybe there's a 3rd option? Condemn is bad, so I don't think there really is...
strongly advocate playing Psionic Blast over it (since it can indeed kill PWs or your opponent, and that happens more often than you'd think ^^)
Seconding this. Psionic Blast is absolutely insane due to the surprise factor and the amount of things it can kill (fatty creatures, PW's, players, yourself). Anecdotal evidence here, but one of my friends piloting Grand Arbiter Augustin IV did in fact kill his opponent in Game 3 of the match using Psionic Blast and proceeded to move onto the finals B)
Is it, though? If they started the game, yeah it's nice. But if you went first, would you really want to tap a land turn 2? That's my problem with Oust. Late game it's not that good and early game you almost never want to tap on your turn and leave your counter-mana down.
If you have Path on that elf example, you just don't use it on the elf.
I posed my question strictly as a Path x Oust thing, because people seem to be playing one over the other. There are people that play both, but most people seem to be playing Oust and NOT Path. So I wonder in what scenarios is Oust really that better. Aside from hitting Doran/Anafenza turn 2 without ramping the opponent, I can't see any other situation I'd rather have Oust.
Oust seem to be better suited to deal with opposing commanders, since your opponent will rarely let it go to the library. But I don't know... Path can hit so many things...
