and you guys run duel-edh right?
The OP is quite clearly Duel-Commander man. C'mon...
Cloudshift is pretty useful, it makes Target spells misses Zurgo cause when it comes back its another creature and low CMC.
Rebuff the wicked has the same logic that Cloudshift, low CMC but effective in protecting Zurgo.
Double Cleave is fast and hybrid mana RW helps a lot it's like a weaker boros charm for me without some utility.
Reverberate... yeah it's there but i'll take it away when i think of some replacement
About Ashen Rider... expensive but i have mixed feeling about this one, cause it has been working sometimes
maybe change the deck for duel edh...
One thing I've run into the more I play this deck is sometimes you must push the round to time. I still play at normal pace but for example I win game 1 and while I'm losing game 2 I jokulhaups and attempt to win the land race. Restarting the game tends to push things to time. I've had some tournaments that I end 1-0-2. This deck is very grindy. It out attritions a lot of decks while one you have board state, attempts to end it quickly.
Yup, knowing your meta is huge with this deck. Mine is packed full of control so I play lots of control hate and have played on store credit ever sense (gotta love playing for free). There is one rafiq infect deck that seems like a coin toss most nights. You either have the answers or you don't. Either way this deck likes to ground it out the hard way. I have hard casted Decree of annihilation on one life and let my opponents own phyrexian arena kill himself.
Not a problem, thanks for reading! I will continue to edit when I have time, unfortunately my LGS is switching to modern instead of duel commander so while I will still play with the same folks, the official "tournaments" are on hiatus. The thing I lined best about zurgo is he is kind of an unknown matchup for a lot of decks and when balanced for the right meta I feel he can do pretty well for himself. Maybe the next Mardu commander might play better for the control game but for now Zurgo provides the beats we need.
The way I see Zurgo is like Ruhan; a control shell and the win condition is our general.
We don't have blue but we can play alot of wraths and LD recklessly

No love for The Abyss? Just feel that keeping him as one of the only targets avaliable is nice since you won't be able to destroy him. Also Lethal Vapors works nice with zurgo.

My build totes had The Abyss. Fantastic Rector target in this deck.
I played Zurgo tonight at a small Duel-Commander event at the LGS.
Round 1 I 2-0 Kaalia of the Vast. Maybe I have an "unfair" advantage here since I have such an intimate understanding of this commander. Game 1 I Vindicate'd his Hall of the Bandit Lord and he struggles a bit. He eventually got an attack off and brought Sire of Insanity with her, but Dismember'd it post combat (I guess he didn't want to lose his hand?) Anyway I windmill'd Zurgo after this and just had insurmountable power. Game 2 I ripped his hand apart with three different disruptions into Zurgo and that was a wrap.
Round 2 was by far the toughest, hardest match as he and I went back and forth (game 1 went thirty minutes). He's on Grenzo Doomsday combo (he has Worldgorger combo as well), and this is a deck that has a terrorizing reputation at the store. Anyway he took game 1 but game 2 he stumbled on mana while I went Zurgo < 'Geddon (with two rocks and a rainbow in hand) + Bob leading to his prompt concession. Game 3 was clutch, and we went to extra turns. We both started this game off awkward as hell but in the end, my Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker brought him to 1 so his Arena would finish him.
Round 3 I went 2-1 vs Ezuri, although I misplayed on game 2 when I Gamble'd for Bob when I should have got Fire Covenant. I got greedy for more cards and it cost me. Game 3 was fairly uneventful, I slammed Zurgo and he took a couple of hits. He finally full tapped for Ezuri and something else and I untapped to resolve Damnation and that was it.
Won four packs for my troubles, but nothing inside was worth the price of the pack. Ah well, it was fun. I especially enjoyed the Grenzo match, and am proud I was able to finish him with the reputation he had. He was a fantastic pilot.
Mana Tithe was legit and popped the whole shop with the shock. It single-handedly made my spells good twice.
R1 vs Sigarda, Host of Herons. G1 I stumble around on mana and am unable to really assemble anything to disrupt him. G2 I owe solely to a t3 Tangle Wire that, quite frankly, embarrassed him. G3 was a bit more grindy, which saw me Fork his t3 Kodama's Reach to play t4 Nevermore on his commander. He has a Bramblecrush though, but at least I Time Walk'd him with it, which led to my playing Zurgo so he can't play Sigarda (because he can't race us). This game got real grindy and eventually ended in extra turns, with him getting the final points of damage on t5. I flooded out g3 which, while unfortunate, I'd rather flood than hit a drought.
R2 I 2-0'd an untiered Oona deck who was salty after I Sinkhole'd into Bob into Liliana g1, then Gamble'd for Bob t1 g2. I Vindicate'd one of his lands next, then played Auriok Champion and was content to bash for three to win. Later I added a Prophetic Flamespeaker to the mix to generate CA and pressure him harder, while I'm holding Elspeth, Sorin, and a Bob-revealed Liliana in hand. Bob hands me a Duress, which I use to see three different counters (and a frost Titan) in hand, so I play the least important of my walkers - Sorin - to bait a counter. He does, then full taps for Titan on hsi turn - prompting me to play Liliana to edict it, and continue the beats, which he scoops to.
R3 I 2-0'd Griselbrand, which was cool because I've not played against him yet. His g1 was rocky and he tried pressuring me with a Mutavault, Vesuva on Muta, but that's not nearly enough. G2 was better although I did Nevermore his commander after he Hymn'd my Spirit of the Labyrinth and Withered Wretch. I curve the Nevermore into Elspeth, Knight-Errant, into Zurgo (which he deals with on his turn) into Sorin, Lord of Innistrad (-2, then +1). In the clutch moment he windmills a Massacre Wurm to clear my guys, I followed by resolving Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker to bash for five, while ticking Elspeth to 8 after making a guy to block. Lots of PWs for him to deal with. He gets Sword of Light and Shadow to knock out my Elspeth, my turn I tick Sorin down to 0 to get a second emblem, and bash 12, I play Sword of Fire and Ice post combat (I don't have mana to equip this turn). he untaps and drops Karn Liberated to knock out my SoFaI, then his Wurm punches Sarkhan to oblivion and I'm about to die...until I topdeck the seventh land to recast Zurgo and punch through for lethal, thanks to my Sorin emblems.
Ultimately. I like the walkers that turn into beatsticks, and I will add Gideon Jura to the deck in place of the under performing Auriok Champion (which is definitely a meta card). Figure of Destiny didn't do much either, so that will become some more disruption (because I totes don't play enough lol...which is a joke, because I play tons of disruption) or something, maybe I'll put Wear/Tear back in. The Sorin, Lord of Innistrad should really be a Bitterblossom; can't find one anywhere, (same with Fulminator Mage) so I make do with what I have to the best of my ability.
Rakdos Charm is still so pro. As is Fork. I'd never cut these two.
I wouldn't mind slotting in the Sudden Demise I just picked up.
Hey, thinking of making my Kaalia into Zurgo for 1v1 and keep Kaalia for MP EDH. Could I bother you for a list 3drinks, since I see you make some different choices then OP? Very interested in seeing your removal suit and creature base.

Sure. Haha yeah my suite is quite eye catching. I will try to post on the weekend, if my college stuff isn't too pressing.
Sorry its taken a few days. I took a some pics of the deck on my phone. I didn't get the lands, but they are fairly standard. I have 9 fetch, shocks, 2 abus (need a Scrubland still). six basics rounded out with Tower/City/Confluence/Pool/Urborg & Cavern. Colourless is Volrath's, PhyTow, Wasteland & Arcane Lighthouse.
