While originally opposed to the idea of venturing to Zendikar, heeding the warning of fellow planeswalker Jace Beleren, The Architect couldn't help but become interested in researching the effects of the Eldrazi on it's plane. Journeying through the treacherous plane, he followed a great source of Green Mana, which he had sense ever since he arrived. This led him to discover the elemental Omnath, created and made sentient from the chaotic energies of the planes. Feeling it's power would be of tremendous use to his cause, The Architect asks for his assistance with his goals. In exchange, he promises to help the lone elemental find a greater purpose outside of pure destruction.
In standard, I have a great tendency to play mono green decks if they are viable. They are typically fast, strong, and most importantly, let you generate a boat load of mana. Omnath is the embodiment of that mana generating love I have into one package of mass destruction. To say the least, this guy his hard and FAST. Plus, with the right cards, he can be extremely resilient if you can protect him or have a flash outlet. One of my favorite things to do is either equip him with Bear Umbra or Mark of Sakiko to generate massive amounts of mana. Even having out Sakiko, Mother of Summer has hilarious effects with multiple creatures or even with just Omnath in play with her.
