What do we think about some of the new M15 stuff coming out? So far I think notable includes I might try/add are Return to the Ranks and Spirit Bonds. I feel like there is enough 2 CMC or less creatures to justify using Return to the Ranks and the Spirit Bond card seems neat - also making some of our dudes indestructible seem good.
Nice to see a thread for an Athreos EDH. With the printing of Commander 2014, the white and black decks gave us some new cool tools to play with, although I have yet to acquire some of them.
I decided to not include any discard spells for now and focus on creatures to maximize my commander's ability. Although I find it hard for me not to include Thoughtseize, Castigate, Hymn to Tourach and even Gerrard's Verdict.
Creatures - the list is tight in such that I included creature with either an ETB/LTB or good on its own. I added as many creatures as I could to maximize Athreos. To lessen spots removals, discard and other spells, I researched and added creatures with such ability to further exploit Athreos.
Discard Spells - while these are good disruption techniques, I found out that the deck performs slightly better without these. Instead of using instants/sorceries, I added creatures with these abilities so that it could interact with Athreos.
Spot Removals/Edicts - the deck still contains some of these spells, although for the most part, the effects are attached with etb creatures such as Gatekeeper of Malakir and Fleshbag Marauder. Attrition is also there to kill things while opponents pay to Athreos.
Tricks/Combos Karmic Guide + Reveillark + any Sacrifice outlet - classic tech for the deck. Flickerwisp could help out too. If your sacrifice outlet is Altar of Dementia, you could mill your opponent to death (provided that there are no Eldrazis in there). Divinity of Pride + Athreos or Erebos + Desolation Angel - with divinity, both gods will be active and if not answered before the Armageddon effect, the game is pretty much over.
Wake the Dead - will surely give a big surprise on your opponent. If your graveyard is full because of those Athreos payments by your opponent and they attack you because you have no creatures, cast this one and watch their reaction. This spell works well if you could grab back creatures with ETB effects such as Liliana's Specter, Sin Collector and the likes. Grabbing a Shriekmaw or Fleshbag Marauder could even kill an attacker. There are many craziness you could do and what's even better is that those you grabbed will have to be sacrificed at the end step - meaning your opponents will have to pay to Athreos again.
Arcane Lighthouse - hoses hexproof and shroud so that we could kill Sigarda, Uril, Narset and many others.
Æther Snap - getting swarmed by planeswalkers and/or tokens? This is the answer.
Nihil Spellbomb & Bojuka Bog - graveyard hate. Shuts down reanimators and any other graveyard techs. Do note that our opponents (decks with black) could also do the same to us, which could hurt too.
Necrotic Sliver + any graveyard recursion- destroy every single permanents on sight while giving your opponent the dilemma of whether or not pay Athreos. Either option is hurtful for them.
Skullclamp + X/1 creatures - draws you cards while your opponents pay fees to Athreos.
Sun Titan + Wasteland - land destruction is really not our theme but we could get rid problematic lands with this.
Exile forever techs Fiend Hunter or Faceless Butcher + any sacrifice outlet - that old trick of exiling cards forever. In terms of permanent creature removal this would be your tech. Upon entering the battlefield, you may sacrifice either of these guys in response so that the creature targeted would be gone forever. Also, your opponent may want to pay Athreos for a fee.
Mesmeric Fiend or Tidehollow Sculler + any sacrifice outlet - same as above, except that you rip off things from their hands. And yes, Athreos may demand a fee here too.
Leonin Relic-Warder + any sacrifice outlet - gets rid of any problematic artifacts or enchantments for good. Athreos will ask for a fee too.

There are other techs and possibilities in here. Updates will continue to roll.
Those are nifty techs which I've tested before. I'm more curious on its overall performance in a meta.
Against Griselbrand -> it's more of a 50/50 chance. If Griselbrand mana boosts and ramps early with Coffers and mana rocks, their card advantage is ridiculous. However if they start out slow and even if we get disrupted by some discard spells, early aggro beats will make a short work of it. Erebos is the key to shutdown Griselbrand's lifelink in order to limit their draws. Destroying all their lands with Desolation Angel pretty much screws them up.
Against Narset, Enlightened Master -> it's more of a 60/40 chance in our favor. Like with Griselbrand, early aggro beats could beat it. It's just too annoying sometimes that they cast multiple TimeWalk spells in a row with Narset and they could recover. Edict spells and Arcane Lighthouse is the key to get rid of Narset. Most Narset Decks play little to no creatures at all. Just keep casting spells and aggro beats since they rarely or almost have no counter spells.
Against Maelstrom Wanderer -> it's a 30/70 chance against us. They ramp quickly with green and rocks. We really can't afford to miss a land drop and when Wanderer is cast and cascades into Upheaval or any boardwipes, we are dead. It's best to disrupt their hands and take away their mana rocks and dorks.
Against Sen Triplets Animator -> it's a 60/40 chance. They have some counter spells and some removals but mostly, big threats such as Iona or Griselbrand and reanimating spells. With proper timing, just wipe out their filled graveyard with Nihil Spellbomb or Bojuka Bog and we will most like win. Also, don't be too scared of Iona since she could only target one color. We have answers for her in both colors. As for Sen Triplets, we have to get rid of it as soon as it lands.
Against Geist of Saint Traft -> another 60/40 chance. The version I played against packs lots of counters and control elements. Just bait out their counter and swarm early with aggro beats and we could call it a day. They could waste their counter spells all day with our creatures, only to have it back with our various recursion spells. The geist itself could be edicted or target via Arcane Lighthouse.
Against Omnath, Locus of Mana -> 50/50 chance here. I played against a ramp/land destruction build. If they ramp and destroy lands each turn, then we are screwed. Otherwise if not, we could fight it out. Just be careful of Omnath itself when it gets real big and it needs to get answered at once.
Against Sigarda, Host of Herons -> based on experience, it's a 60/40 chance. Never allow Sigarda and Avacyn meet on the battlefield. If that happens, we are screwed. With Arcane Lighthouse we could pick this angel's wings apart. Fight it out with lots of creatures and force them to pay to Athreos.
Against Ezuri, Renegade Leader -> another 50/50 chance. They are faster than us when they ramp and Gaea's Cradle works all kinds of craziness in their board. But then, they are prone to over extend on the early turns. Just tutor up some wrath and we are on our way.
Against Radha, Heir to Keld -> kindda 40/60 against us since mostly, it's a land destruction deck. They ramp fast and destroys lands turn after turn. Our only chance is hand disruption to pick off their land destruction spells, but they could still get back those using spells like Eternal Witness.
---
So far, these are the match-ups I've faced. Factors include both me and my opponent's misplays. Never forget your Athreos trigger. If ever one of our creatures get stolen and it dies, remember that our opponent will still might need to pay Athreos because the wording is "owned" and not "controlled". If an opponent will attempt to steal an active Athreos and we have a sac outlet, we can easily turn off the devotion by sacrificing creatures - but don't sacrifice Athreos himself! You can do the same if an opponent will target Athreos with creature removal such as Swords to Plowshares or Dismember. It's just too bad that we can't respond to Sudden Death.
I was thinking of adding some rocks and medallions to speed up the deck, but it's hard to decide what to swap out. I might also consider back at least 4 discard spells, Thoughtseize, Hymn to Tourach, Duress and Castigate.

Those discards are bit necessary against quicker aggros. I'm curious why you don't run them. In addition why you didn't run Toxic Deluge, that card is a bit a-must against cheaper decks? Also, how's Æther Snap... not too much fun with its effect and overall effects. Same goes with Oversold Cemetery, I was sold on its initial abilities and pumped up when I added it... over time, I've dropped it because it didn't have much impact unless you already "dredge" your guys in your grave.

Have you tried Magister of Worth? I have loved her in duel commander for my Zurgo deck but she would give you a wrath that leaves you with a 4/4 flier and your commander. Also they would have to decide whether or not to pay the tax on all your creatures and lose all of theirs.

Yeah, tough decision and I haven't built our tested this deck to help with that. I just know it has been an invaluable spot removal for me because it exiles, dodges shroud and hexproof, can hit any nonland target and only costs 3.
I'll be playing this weekend using this list. I'm still having a hard time beating Maelstrom Wanderer in our practice matches. The only times I could win is if I draw several hand disruption in a row or land a Desolation Angel.
I'm also considering the cards: Nevermore and Armageddon itself back (I previous had those in).

I've added Aven Mindcensor and Restoration Angel in my list. They're proven helpful on my last weekend's EDH match, able to hamper search techs and blinking creatures with ETBs are great.

This is impressive. He actually built a faster and more aggro version of the deck with little recursion spells or tricks. The low-curve made it faster to lay down more threats on the table.

I am slowly building this deck right now, and was wondering what you guys think are the advantages/disadvantages of the slower lists vs the faster, low-curve aggressive lists.
I enjoy the more slower lists in terms of playstyle, but if it is not nearly as viable as the aggresive lists then I'd prefer to just go that direction.
