@balangaz: I haven't seen a LD deck that's has a decent winning against other decks. However, it's a very effective strategy. Just be careful if you're running Bobandfriends. They do take a hefty toll if you don't have a way to get rid of them when the game drags... especially from control.
@3drinks: I run Thunder when I first started... along with Stormbreath. Since they have the same cost (3RR), has haste, and mild P/T difference, the one thing that stands out is Stormbreath's prowhite which is a really good point against WU top tier decks.
Here's another update. Need more Artifact hate against MW and more lands... mana deprived with couple of games. So far, I'm not the only who has problem with lands
Have you given any more thought to my Sarkhan the Mad suggestion? Turning Bloodghast into a dragon or an extra card a turn is pretty powerful and good reach.
Sure. That's why I recommended cutting Shriekmaw for it. Five for a 3/2 fear with a Terror vs what Sarkhan offers. If you find yourself only Evoking it, then it is worse than Terror, Go For the Throat, Vendetta all three. Your call; but I'd give it a run. You'll like what you see.
Actually, I dropped him. For the past few games, I have to remake my deck from scratch. One thing, I'm mana deprived. Another thing is that I have some uncastable stuff on the first few games (aka not enough mana before or after mull). From 24 creatures to 22-21 guys left leaving me a lot of noncreature spell. Plus I have to be careful with my cmc since it's my 3rd deck totally focus on it (I have other decks but not as much as my projects). Cmc means that bob and friends are tend to be annoying when the game drags on.
I'll test Sarkhan later on until I'm confidence with my deck.
I've been running Ikaoru's build above +/- 4 cards for 10 days strait. So far I've gone 15-2-8 for a 60% win rate. Most losses have come either from faster mob decks (Elves, Animar, Marath) or from Mana screw. It think going to 39 lands is prudent since there are no other Mana sources besides Dark Rit in the deck.
This deck runs great, the heavy disruption makes dork damage add up quickly. Mogis, if he resolves is consistently worth 6-10 points of damage. However, resolving Mogis T4 is not essential to winning, so it can be a nice counter fish to cash him T4 if you're camping on something more important like a Phyrexian Arena or a Blood Moon.
Having pushed the deck above (v6.)to the point of semantic differences with Ikaoru, I decided to make a version I could put on paper w/o the big money cards and snap lands. Here's my > $25 build for people who want to play Mogis Mid Range with out a large investment in snaps, snow lands, BoB and Three Kingdoms Cards.
Over all the deck is very fun and strait forward to navigate. It's a "fair" deck (no stupid infinities or instana-wins.) And the Lando is disruptive but not nauseatingly repetitive like Rhada or Skullbriar (ect.)3-Color players will often scoop if Blood Moon or Magus hit. It's a nice way to stick-it to guys with $1000 mana bases. Also, when you win it is usually quick, which is nice for making sure you don't time out rounds in tournaments.
I guess my final thoughts for this post are that making the 10 life jump from Duel Commander to Standard Commander with Mogis is a Big, Big hurdle. Those 5 additional turns grinding with Mogis and drawing aggro from the whole board is a lot different than running hardcore disruption and efficient creatures in 1:1 play.

Ruination: a big "ef-u"card. That deck has lowered its standard so it's ok to hit them in their face. Goblin Guide.... good luck with that. I also played against his Mogis deck once, won 2-0, but never saw him post that result either on metagame (I had to do that). I get not being able to post results all the time, but come on...
Haven't played him since I started playing Mogis... from my early crappy list, Marath is fast. Able to get removal and sweepers are essential. Since he relies on mana dorks from Llanowar Elves to Sylvan Caryatid, sweeping them in one move is needed... drawingthem or Tutoring them is a problem.
Been testing Smokestack once more because having 39 lands is bit consistent to avoid having mana screwed in one way or another. I tried it before with 36-38 lands and it's hard and too risky because I can't seem to drop my 3rd or 4th land on their appropriate turn (or worst, needing the necessary color). Tangle Wire is also good card testing too in my deck since I've seen MartilD used it on his budget version online.
I like seeing Young Pyromancer in this list. Heisenb3rg abused me with him flashing back faithless looting then swinging in with Hellrider.
I recently droped Falkenrath Aristocrat for Oona's Prowler. I'm thinking I'll get more damage earlier with Prowler (6 on turn 4 instead of 4,) though it doesn't add as much count for Mogis loyalty.
I've been playing with Curse of Shallow Graves too in order to: a) increase momentum in a lead b) make more sac out lets for stax and Braids.
So, far that has been going well adding 4-6 additional points of damage each time it's resolved. I also like having enchantments adding towards Mogis's loyalty, since they tend to survive sweepers.
I saw that game with Heisenb3rg. Didn't realized how much of a tempo he is in midrange. In addition, most of midrange stuff are all discards and draws. Aristocrat is there in case Braids starts to hurt us and she can provide some sac factor. I used Oona Prowers in Standard she has some moments in there.
For Curse of Shallow Graves, it's a decent card, it's really works well if you have around 26 creatures just to make it useful. I just want something other than being a Devotion prop.
For Marath, I got a couple of games with them... didn't realized that the replays got erased again.
Drown in Sorrow is MVP when your opponent starts to too reliant to creatures and most of its guys are 2 or lower, its scry managed to give me the 4th land for 4th turn. Same goes with staples like Sudden Demise and Toxic Deluge which are good.
Mooncards just wreck early lands. Just because you can drop Marath early doesn't mean you can recast him again.
Fulminator Mage and Volrath's Stronghold are really annoying when they can't cast something if they lack the mana after a massive sweep. Same goes with Grim Discovery... bringing back those essential lands.
With Oona's Prowler the opening hand math is 6 points on T4 vs. 4 points on T4. And statically, you are going to benefit more often from the 6 points of flying damage, than have someone play a control effect on Braids (in which case you have sweepers.) Remember you can always sac Braids if she's running wild on you (and you controller her.) Same with Smokestack with 1 counter. Aristocrat does get the edge if you draw into her mid to late game. So for a post Mogis blast to the face I can see picking Aristocrat. Aristocrat is also the perfect follow up to you're opponent's sweeper spell.
How many points of damage is Zu-Zo getting for you? He's a house against snap lands, but my experiace is he doesn't stick around more than 2 turns and may not get an attack in. Perhaps swap Prowler with Zu-zo?
Moon effects have been such power in this deck, I'm thinking about running Contamination. Even if it is only for 1 turn, being able to shut down your opponent's mana and stop them from casting their gen on turn 3 might be enough to get ahead. With Youg Pyromancer, Curse of Shallow Graves, Bloodghast and Gravecrawler you have an chance to set up a very quick lock with the right draw. Of course it would be preferable to drop this after Mogis in on the board, but if Contamination keeps Marath, Prosh or Animar off the table while you dig for a sweeper... worth thinking about. It is also a "Must counter" spell vs. Blue. On the flip side this is a dead draw against Greislbrand, Iname or Kagemaro/Oloro.
For Zo-zu, he's one of the cards that's been considered "situational cast." Meaning that by turn 3 or more, I'm not sure which one's to drop. When that happen we either need another edict, LD, Tutor, eff-you $$$ lands, Shatter, that'll leave us with 3 drop open for any combat or they need lands and willing to take a Shock, in addition to your case... a 3/1. Zo-zu is kind of hit and missed. On a late game and we're slightly on the lead, he's a headache for most opponent and willing to waste a kill spell for against a 2/2 with RR.
It's hard for me to drop Aristocrat (haste and BR) or even Zo-zu (Ankh of Mishra on legs and RR) just to add Prowler(3/1 and B). Even though he's cheaper, a 3/1 and has a discard outlet, it's hard for me to make room for him.
For Contamination, he's the same league as Snuff Out or Dystopia so I wouldn't count him out on the reason of being suck against black opponents. That enchantment is rather tasty to use though.
The way I see it, this general has a certain inevitability that makes him good. The colors are a little limiting, but there are a lot of cool interactions and a lot of very powerful tools available. I wanted to focus on having my cards work more for me than normal, with the addition of the devotion mechanic in the deck.
Anyway, I was toying with him earlier, and after a few games and some talking with ikaoru, this is the rough list I ended up with for now:
Glad that you've updated your deck. Way much better than the ones you've posted. You still need a lot testing with current meta because BR is bit hard to play (for me at least). You added a lot of stuff that I've suggested which is a good thing since they're doing a lot of nifty stuff in long term.
So far, testing a couple of new cards. I was about to drop DD package but ended up keeping it since it's a decent beater.
Smokestack is too slow. As someone pointed out (tiger tanaka), it takes a full turn. When I was playing against Oloro, I cast other 4cmc and ended up not casting that artifact. In addition and at that time, Oloro has no hand but tons of mana but I have 4-5 mana source but having a full hand.
I kind of missed Grim Discovery because that card bring me 5+ turn drop needed for my deck.
Also, PoP is being missed because I like messing up 3 color decks. It's either that or Moon cards that often forced my opponent to lose.
Bleh... even with 39 lands... I'm still stuck with 3-4 land lock. I won a couple of game with Prime Speaker Zegana but apparently, I can't get enough card advantage fast enough. Not my lucky night
Ok so I have an update to my under $25 per-card "Budget Mogis." (Sorry about the formatting) I have this on paper and will be testing it this weekend. What I have been struggling with with this general is the constant debate of creature count vs. disruption and control elements. For defense against Elf Ball and Marath I'd been running heavy on sweepers. When up against online opponents where I've been seeing more blue I've wanted to get heavier on hand destruction. The moon cards have been auto-wins in many 2 and 3 color match ups which has made me interested in running Contamination. To feed Contamination I added Ophiomancer and Curse of Shallow Graves as well as look to get back Gravecrawler and get dorks out of Young Pyromancer.
Fo0kinz has also had me thinking more about getting my devotion count up. So this build is guided by 3 factors: 1. getting more dudes on the table, 2. getting haste dudes out on T2 and T3(For 6 points of "pre-sweeper" damage.) 3. being able to keep Contamination on the board for at least 2 turns.( Admittedly if if I had Bitterblosom in my budget that would be the best for goals 1 and 3.)
Saddest about loosing Entomber Exarch (we were just getting to know each other) But, I've added 3 other Hando cards and I need pyroclasm back after loosing to Geist.
Creature count is down to 22 : (. But, I feel like I need the discard to combat counter and the pryoclasm for Geist, Elfs and Marath.
Looks solid coming from here. Sucks that you're on a budget to get the essential spells to make it work. I'm curious about Exava's performance... I was expecting a more "Lyzolda" than her. I'm curious if you include some First Strike enablers like Bloodmark Mentor or Legion Loyalist... or some anti blues like Mindsparker or just getting bigger [card]
Mirri the Cursed[/card]. Vampire Hexmage can be good even with out her land combo... it can definitely can kill Geist or a walker.
@3drinks: I run Thunder when I first started... along with Stormbreath. Since they have the same cost (3RR), has haste, and mild P/T difference, the one thing that stands out is Stormbreath's prowhite which is a really good point against WU top tier decks.

so moving forward with the deck, how do we fix the match up versus Marath. think that general will nbe quite popular.. well if it already isn't.

Tangle Wire is also good card testing too in my deck since I've seen MartilD used it on his budget version online.

Moon cards just wreck early lands. Just because you can drop Marath early doesn't mean you can recast him again.
Fulminator Mage and Volrath's Stronghold are really annoying when they can't cast something if they lack the mana after a massive sweep. Same goes with Grim Discovery... bringing back those essential lands.

So far, testing a couple of new cards. I was about to drop DD package but ended up keeping it since it's a decent beater.
Smokestack is too slow. As someone pointed out (tiger tanaka), it takes a full turn. When I was playing against Oloro, I cast other 4cmc and ended up not casting that artifact. In addition and at that time, Oloro has no hand but tons of mana but I have 4-5 mana source but having a full hand.
Ophiomancer really looks promising.
I kind of missed Grim Discovery because that card bring me 5+ turn drop needed for my deck.
Also, PoP is being missed because I like messing up 3 color decks. It's either that or Moon cards that often forced my opponent to lose.
