I have been slowly adding demons, devils and imps to a deck box (I put all of my decks-in-progress in deck boxes) for a new Rakdos, the Showstopper Commander build.
I am not too sure what direction to take the deck, outside of demon/devil/imp tribal. What do most of these creatures have in common or what can synergize with them? I just went to edhrec.com and it helped a little w/ creatures to get and support cards, but it doesn't help w/ a direction.
Since he does play around w/ coin flipping, I can have the one or two cards that help w/ that, but adding other coin flip cards will just add flavor, but not synergy.
Here are some ideas off the top of my head, but not too sure how they will play out in this format:
1) No cards in hand - so Hellbent can work as well. But what else goes well w/ that?
2) A lot of demons have sacrifice triggers... is this a good idea?
3) Demons also have damage to me, so I can play around w/ that... but reducing my life constantly will make winning difficult, so I would need to counterbalance that w/ life gain.
4) Steal creatures and sacrifice them to the demons
5)????
I am open to other ideas or if any of the above ideas are good, let me know.
There is a set up I see that uses a lot of red clone effects so you would flip coins 2~4 times each time Rakdos and his tokens come out, to ensure everything is dead. Helm of the Host/Mirror March/Conjurer's Closet are obvious include in this, Cloudstone Curio would also work with other EtB effect creatures, or with Oversold Cemetery and an sac outlet to keep Rakdos going. Cards that grants persist/undying or ones that return Rakdos back in instant speed (like Abnormal Endurance) also works wonder in killing creatures. There's a Rakdos Solo deck that uses only Rakdos as creature, then uses Homicidal Seclusion and Dragon's Breath/Dragon's Shadow to few shots opponent.
Really he is just a great commander for any sort of combo deck that needs disruption from the command zone. I have a dedicated deck to each of the 6 legendaries from the rakdos guild, and showstopper ended up best just piloting a storm deck,
I think it's best to not focus on his etb, and instead use him when you need to clean up the board a little or apply pressure in the air. He's one of the better "generically good" black+red legendaries available, mainly for how players react to you not casting him when you could and potentially causing them to hold back valuable creatures. I think adding something like vedalken orrery would be ideal just so you can lord him over opponents heads a bit longer.
