The Primer template isn't actually posted in a separate thread anywhere, which is probably an oversight generally. I think we had discussed making it a stickied thread in the Primer Application thread but then Real Life took over and it got waylaid. So yes, it's currently available only by request, heh.
I'll discuss it with the Primer Committee and see if it can be added to the Application thread for general users to reference.
Coincidentally, I just had a slightly different mode of interaction with the committee - a comment of mine made it perfectly clear I'm extremely bbcode-green, to what the response I received featured small excerpts of my primer reworked into a style that was to the reviewer's liking. This was nothing short of fantastic. The reviewer got to solidify their concept of how the rework should appear, while simultaneously providing tag guidance for village idiots like yours truly. I feel this sort of assistance should be explicitly advertised when offering feedback, and it would help things along considerably.
So yeah, if the review process were to focus on content, and formatting reworks came with the explicit possibility of guidance, the process would probably be significantly closer to painless.
Do you mean sort of how our deck builder has sections that you can fill in?
You mean the deck tags[deck][./deck]? Or holy ***** is there an actual deck builder like tappedout uses? Because why have I not known this over the years, I've just drawn my stuff up in Gnote (it's the libre/Linux version of MS Notepad)..............

As I recall, the primer template thread is in the primer committee subforum, but it is always getting buried by the requests. Since the viewing permissions are so strict, most members won't ever see it as a last post, instead they just see "deleted".
And I mean no ill will towards the PC in my comments. My time with the PC was a much younger time when the concept was still growing, and I recall my primer was in the first three or so to get approved so the obvious speed bumps were present and they were overly present. Overall, it was about two months of debates, rewrites, resubmissions, reformats before it was finally allowed to display the tag.
And one thing I'd like to point out, it wasn't exactly recent, but I distinctly recall their was talk of rescinding my primer status because "the deck list never changed". Given once a competitive deck reaches it's apex, a deck shouldn't change but sparingly, I found this a confusing point to be brought to my own attention, especially given my activity with the thread in question. Again my status was, as I see, not rescinded, but if I could make a suggestion, I don't think such a critique "the deck list hasn't changed in a long time" should be considered as a candidate for rescinding status so much as the lack of activity in a thread would.

This isn't generally a consideration for removal of primer status. My Nissa list is much the same these days, it's not likely to change a lot. Once a list is where you want it, it's not likely to change overly much, and it gets a ton harder to make cuts. We're really looking as much for signs that the thread is still active is all. The first post doesn't need to change so long as you're still interacting with people who post to your thread. And as personal liaison to Kaalia, we're not likely to take your green tag away, so long as you're active on the thread. The easiest way to do this without having to reply (if there's nothing to respond to or whatever) is new set release reviews as they come through. I'm due to do one for Modern Horizons on my Nissa thread in the next few days.
In general, what darren has said earlier is pretty much our end goal. We want you guys to be proud of your end result, and we want it to be accessible and easily read by your target audience. Lack of imagery and having a primer tag are not mutually exclusive. We are listening, and we're aware that you guys are doing this on your own time, so we do try to make our suggestions as positive and helpful as we can, so if there's anything we can do to make you guys more likely to want to apply please let us know. We'd like to see more come through, and we're happy to help you make it happen. I know there's a lot of threads out there you guys are proud of, so we'd like to help you share them.
The Primer Application thread in the Commander Primer sub-forum has now been updated with the Primer template as well as some language to indicate our willingness to support our applicants through the Primer application process. I imagine that these changes will carry over into the new site, so this should be a semi-evergreen document moving forward.
That information hasn't been publicly released. It's mentioned in the announcement that Feyd is working on a new site. Once it's live and operational, I imagine another announcement will be made on this site.
Do you know how much content migration is going to occur? Are we going to need to re-apply for primers, or do they migrate?
That will be up to the future primer Committee how they wish to handle it.
This is something that's currently under discussion in the committee. One of us will come back to you guys once we have a firm plan moving forward. It's probably fair to say that we will try our best to make it as easy a move as possible for everyone involved as we can, but we will confirm the logistics of this once we've discussed amongst ourselves.
The easiest way to carry this out would be to add the primer tag to any MTGS primers that migrate over
You’re not wrong in that respect, but we don’t know how things are going to look at the other end, and it’ll mean that existing primer curators will need to save their code, migrate over and let us know where their new thread is, once it’s at a level the curator is happy with (based on the chance that it may not translate exactly the same, we just don’t know yet).
At any rate, in essence it’s simple, we just want to make sure it’s a smooth transition and that we can make the move as seamless as it can be for all involved.

I've got my code saved verbatim in a Google docs file. I'd advise others do the same as its just a matter of a mere c/p job.
Agreed. Plus, it makes stuff far more efficient to alter. I ported mine to text files recently after about three years of them just living online, and it's so much easier to do large-scale editing/rewriting. Here's to hoping the differences are not particularly jarring - there is promise of all the bbcode elements moving over, so it should hopefully be similar enough.
I don't envision there being many hiccups from porting over your threads, and if any codes didn't get added to the new site we will add a helpdesk ticket to get them added.

This. Most of the primers on here have thousands of words and a few of them are pushing a decade of existence. If the only place you're keeping that is a single online forum post, you're asking for trouble.

I'm gonna miss having that decade of history..... sniff
From what I have seen, the MTGS site will be archived. If this is true, you can link the archived thread to your new thread on the new site so that there is easy access to the history.
I admire the amount of effort everyone is already putting into making sure that important things like Primers get moved over to the new site. It is encouraging to know that the new site is already in good hands even if it hasn't even been announced yet... you guys are awesome.
Yes to all of the above. Save your code, there’s a good chance it’ll be a nice easy copy paste job. Once the new threads exist in the post mtgsalvation site the committee is quite happy to honor existing primer tags, based on our discussions to date. You guys have all put in a lot of work to make them nice and shiny, lets keep them that way.
Here's a question though: what do I do with the random threads?
I'm most of the way through my promised 2 year tenure on Random Card of the Day, so I could try and pass the torch a little early. And if I do keep charge of that, do we carry over the list of every card done for the last 5-6 years or start fresh. It'd be kind of nice to start that list of random cards over with the links to the discussions embedded into the list. And I don't know about the random deck thread at all. Don't really want to carry that list over and link everyone back to defunct forums twice a week.

I'm in favor of starting over. That wouldn't split up the list of cards that were already chosen and who knows for how long good old MTGS will be ready only before it is dropped completely? I'd set up our new home as independent of this board as possible.
I say carry them over, start them over. That being said, if you don't want to continue your tenure as curator of either thread I can see why you'd not do that.
The deck thread is a little different in that you'd have to have people fire links through to you again, I would think. Still, both threads are fun and valuable, I'd like to see them carried over. No pressure

I understand that. But still, losing out on a thread boasting a half million views and a decade of discussion. Yes, I can (and will) be pasting the link to this thread in the new one), but...y'know what I mean?
Here's a question though: what do I do with the random threads?

If you want to get out of RCotD, I volunteer to take on that mantle. As for the deck thread, on the new site maybe just start the page with each deck that's been pulled and then continue from there (I assume you have an off-site mechanism for deck determination anyway, such as random.org).
I have been a member here for almost 13 years (My profile says 12 years and 10 months). I have written primers, posted tournament results, helped new players, had heated but respectful arguments, made friends, and countless memories in that time. I went from spending my time in the Standard and draft threads to my time in the casual threads to help new players and write primers for kitchen table magic before the "Elder Dragon Highlander: There Can be Only One Hundred" article brought the attention to the masses. It is not the game which has changed and shaped my life, but the people... the community.
With my job, I do not get to frequent these forums as often as I did in my youth, so this is news to me about two weeks after the announcement, and it is devastating. Despite what I have written, I feel at a loss for words and will need time to process this.
Thank you. I look forward to news on where we go from here.

Interesting news that it looks like MTG Salvation has found a buyer... of course, it also looks like the MTG Nexus website project is also well on its way. I was a little torn on which way to go, but then I looked at the Nexus site to check on progress and it has Fblthp on the 'coming soon' page. Fblthp!!!. Yeah, totally going over to Nexus now.... probably still lurk here somewhat, but I'm looking forward to a new beginning. Fblthp FTW.
I'll discuss it with the Primer Committee and see if it can be added to the Application thread for general users to reference.
