and the fun my friend has with his mono green hydra deck, I figured I'd try out a fun version in simic colors!
I know red may add a lot, but I'm more of a blue player myself, and I feel like simic would be a cool take on a cool tribe. It gives something that is hard to come by: fuel to keep playing. Green may have better card draw than say, red or white, but blue gives more than almost any other color (maybe losing to black but ignore that).
Now the only thing I need to START this deck is a commander, and simic offers a few really cool ones in my opinion.
Kruphix, God of Horizons:
A really cool card that allows us to stack up mana for the following turns to make a huge hydra. Has the benefits of being indestructible, and very hard to remove. A solid choice.
Vorel of the Hull Clade:
Doubling my hydras' power and toughness seems cool. Not to mention he's cheap to get out, being only 3 mana!
To be fair, everyone of those would work and I would pick which one you like the most.
Kruphix is best when you have alot of mana plus stuff like Seedborn Muse, bank all that stuff to keep mana open to protect your beasts
Vorel is cool, but you need the hydra out, it needs to survive and really only need just 1 big fat trampler. But it can double other stuff as well, so its focus can be broadened to stuff like Lux Cannon.
Zegana, good choice but high cmc, draws you cards but again only with a decent sized creature out, else it falls flat on its face. If there is alot of creature control then this would not be great, niether would be smashing in with hydras though.
Tatyova seems like goodstuff to me, you get to draw cards off her ramp spells, ok. Draw and ramp are necessary, seems boring to me. 5 cmc being a bit high because you would be ramping into that! Still good though.
Arimexthese(or however its spelt) is legit, its always going to ramp you from 4 to 6 (7, if you hit land drop) but can get wastelanded, ghost quartered ect. if there are no other threatning lands like coffers/cradle.
All things equal id go with the ramp commander. Draw is not a problem in simic, and better to have a reliable ramp commander and reliable draw spells than anything situational. And lower cmc is great. Works well with Kiora's Follower and such.
Currently with the new spoiling of the card

Prime Speaker Zegana:
Drawing cards equal to our biggest hydra sounds fun.
Tatyova, Benthic Druid:
A bit of an oddball for this strategy, she offers us CA and some lifegain for doing what we already want to: ramp!
I'm open to other commanders in simic colors but these are some ideas I was just tossing around in my head. Any thoughts?
Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest WUR Voltron Control
Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun WU Unblockable Mirror Trickery
Ra's al Ghul (Sidar Kondo) and Face-Down Ninjas
Brudiclad, Token Engineer
Vaevictis (VV2) the Dire Lantern
Rona, Disciple of Gix
Tiana the Auror
Hallar
Ulrich the Politician
Zur the Rebel
Scorpion, Locust, Scarab, Egyptian Gods
O-Kagachi, Mathas, Mairsil
"Non-Tribal" Tribal Generals, Eggs
You can play Thrasios, Triton Hero but if you want Mana for some fatties from just playing good GU cards Kydele can do it better than most.
Legacy - Solidarity - mono U aggro - burn - Imperial Painter - Strawberry Shortcake - Bluuzards - bom
Not really a contest; draw all the answers you could ever need just for having fatties out.
