For the past few days, I have been brainstorming about the possibility of using Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder as some sort of artificer commander. The main idea of the deck is to used Yidris' ability to cascade into a lot of artifacts that may have synergies with them, something similar to Daretti, Scrap Savant. There is no definite strategy yet so I'm looking for suggestions.
As such, I have a few questions I'd like to find the answers to:
How many mana rocks do I run?
Would a sac-for-value-then-recur strategy work?
Is a combo-centric approach avoidable? I'd like to run this deck without intentional infinite combos as much as possible.

1. I would play all the signets, Sol Ring, Commander's Sphere, Coalition Relic, Chromatic Lantern. Mana Crypt if you feel like it.
2. It can, but your general doesn't have built in recursion. If you want to do an artificer route, I am guessing you are doing this so you can have Glissa and Daretti for recursion... in which case, yes, you can have it built in. You are missing white for Teshar, Sun Titan, etc. Any reason why you want Yidris as the general? Reaper King could give you access to all the colours.
3. Yes, you can avoid combo. But you need to be deliberate, and in some cases you may need to cut cards you like. Right now, you actually have multiple infinite combos because of the cost reduction cards. Myr Retriever and Junk Diver go infinite if you have 3 cost reduction cards and an Atog effect. Ancestral Statue goes infinite if you have 4 cost reduction cards and something like Reckless Fireweaver. Scrap Trawler goes infinite too.
So, you need to cut down on these specific cards or get rid of your cost reduction spells.
It is very easy in magic to go infinite when you play free sac outlets and recursion spells. With artifacts, cost reduction will usually put it over the edge, or a sac outlet that generates mana.
If you want to go Null-W, what about Silas Renn, Seeker Adept & Tana, the Bloodsower instead? Silas Renn would more directly synergize with your theme, and Tana actually has some synergy with the go-wide strategy of artifact tokens. Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer in the 99 would be pretty saucy with Tana.
I think if you are going Yidris as the commander (which is an idea I like btw) you need to have some level of focus on getting him through for combat damage. If you can get the cascade going you are going to have some absolutely bonkers storm like turns. Obviously there are a lot of good combat equipment you can throw in for Yidris that will double as artifacts. Basilisk Collar, Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, and Sword of Feast and Famine would all be good choices.
As for ramp, I think you want a ton of it. Again, once you have cascade going you can cascade into rocks, which enables you to cast more spells that also have cascade and you are on the road to value town. Even though you have access to green focusing more on artifact ramp would make sense here due to your theme. My Yidris deck concentrates on 2 cmc or less, colored ramp, to maximize my chances of getting him out on turn three before people are likely to be able to deal with him. If you do run rocks, Paradox Engine becomes extremely good. Lotus Bloom, signets, Fellwar Stone, are all good ramp for this deck.
Thank you all for the suggestions. The reason why I want to go the artificer route is just because i want an artificer commander. I do have Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain but I'm primarily using her as superfriends historic tribal with Paradox Engine as the main wincon. I did take a look at my binder and found Yidris lying around alongside Glissa and Daretti, so I thought I'd give it a try. I like the ramp in green and Glissa's recursion. I absolutely love the options offered by red. I love blue's card draw. The only color I don't think I can use much is black but I'm fine with it just being a splash.
As it currently stands, I think the deck will be more of an artifact value town than anything else. I'm thinking of removing the cost reduction artifacts though as they can lead to infinite combos, which I'm actively trying to avoid in the deck.

As such, I have a few questions I'd like to find the answers to:
Value Spells:
Recursion:
Value from Artifacts:
Cost Reduction: (because casting them artifacts cheaper is real nice)
Removal:
Artifact Sac Outlets:
Artifact Tokens:
Land Ramp: (because green)
I'm just listing cards here I feel can be used in the deck so they are not set in stone.
Suggestions? Thanks!
