hey all i was thinking maken a rat colony infect deck and was checking out few cards i thought were interesting one persistent souleater what does it mean a creature does infect damage to creature player. like based on its power it has or just 1 infect? another one was snake cult initiation it gives poison 3 does that mean it does only 3 infect even if my power is 10 or do i gain infect with it?.
If people are sick of reading about stuff just stop taking part. You have 100% control over what you read. Simic Ascendancy isn't going to get banned just because you didn't tell someone to shut up on the internet.
To be more politically correct, all infect damage is dealt in the form of -1/-1 counters to creatures and poison counters to players. (It's just handled normally to planeswalkers.) I draw the distinction becausereasons. (Damage prevention is on the list of reasons as well.)
In the case of your Souleater, it has base P/T 3/3, so if it attacks, isn't blocked, and nothing modifies it, the defending player gets three poison counters and DOES NOT lose 3 life from the damage. (Also important because reasons, and more so in multiplayer.)
Multiple instances of infect (e.g., activating Pestilent Souleater's ability twice) are redundant. While we're on the topic, though it'll rarely come up, since this is NOT a triggered ability, it doesn't use the stack, so any creatures with toughness 0 or less (or with damage on them greater than toughness and no indestructible or regenerate shield, but that's less common with infect) or any players with ten poison counters (and nothing saying they can't lose the game, e.g. a Platinum Angel or an opponent's Abyssal Persecutor), will die the next time state-based actions are checked.
Creatures with poisonous (Virulent Sliver, anything enchanted with Snake Cult Initiation) or old-school poison (Pit Scorpion), are triggered abilities (so they use the stack and aren't redundant).
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Just as an aside, since your main question has been answered...keep a close eye ready to deal with W players in your meta as you play this deck, becausereasons. But mainly because.

Phyrexian Unlife doesn't really do anything against infect decks.
Solemnity prevents more counters from being added. Suncleanser lets opponents collude against you to clear away poison counters. Leeches removes poison counters, but probably won't be seen unless your infect deck starts becoming a problem.
Green can also run Melira, Sylvok Outcast to prevent gaining poison counters like Solemnity.
I have nothing but bad experiences with Leeches. Remember, in Commander, infect players not only can take you up to ten in one turn, they often must.

Snake Cult Initiation has poisonous 3, which is very different. It gives exactly 3 (or whatever the # is) in addition to combat damage.

Situational but I play it along with Solemnity in a deck or two simply because I have a player that loves Tainted Strike & Triumph of the Hordes in my playgroup.
