When it comes to new characters rather than returning ones, seeing as the Gatewatch are looking for people to fight Bolas, how about a distant descendant of Clan Umezawa?
I'm hoping that we get pre-mending walkers with the "Can be used as your commander" clause. Or legendary creatures with partner. This doesn't affect anything in contructed formats besides commander.

I'd LOVE this. Honoring the past with Tetsuo Umezawa and Toshiro Umezawa while moving the lore forward would be a really strong move for the lore, and a clever move.
I'm hoping that we get pre-mending walkers with the "Can be used as your commander" clause. Or legendary creatures with partner. This doesn't affect anything in contructed formats besides commander.
As much as I doubt it will happen, either of these scenarios would be wicked cool.

The argument is that you'd probably never see commander exclusive words in blocks that are played in standard. Magic is confusing enough, without adding extra words..or is it?
I doubt you'll see any of this for a while, due to this reasoning. However I see this as an opportunity to advertise a format that might not ordinarily get focus, especially from new comers to the game.
"Hey Dave, I have this card and it mentions the commander zone. What is that?"
"Well Melissa, there is a format called commander..."

Lol, yeah, I know. I believe WotC always has the opportunity to provide for all of its formats with the release of new blocks. For example, it could always release a couple of planes or phenomenons with the release of a new block, or at least with every two new blocks. That way that format gets new life breathed into it every now and again. With each set it could also release also challenges like with what it did with the Hero's Path decks, the Garruk giant planeswalker card, the Ixalan tile flipping game, etc. Returning to Dominaria is such a big deal that the new commander product should focus on it. For example, it used to always based on the color pie. Then it was just 4 decks based on tribes. Maybe this year they can make decks focused on lore. And use characters - whether as planeswalkers with the commander clause or legendary creatures - that have yet to receive representation on a card that wasn't necessarily printed in Dominaria. I feel that cards shouldn't just be made for a set - supplemental products could just as easily be supplemental to the current block. Hell, even the Hascon promo contained Grimlock, Dinobot Leader which was relevant to the present blocks (vehicles, dinosaurs, and transforming creatures).

I came into Magic only in Ravnica, so I am not super-familiar with Dominaria's story(the less said about "story" and "Time Spiral" in same phrase the better). I know most of the characters somewhat and the "skimmed-wiki" version of the story, but I don't really have any attachment to any character in particular.
Mostly I'm looking forward to unexplored mechanical territory when it comes to legendaries, of course.

I agree with strong spells. Even though I love strong creatures, it would be a breath of fresh air. As far as characters, I started playing around Onslaught block so I would like to see Kamahl come back to life, somehow.
There is a fun theory going around the goo Jace planes walked into was Squee. I'm excpeting to see Lilianas brother and her last demon as cards. The author of the storyline also mentions an angel and a vampire who are new members of the featherlight who are friends.

They don't reference commander stuff in non-commander products. Same is true for planes chase, draft matters, silver boarder, ect.

I'm hoping they bring back Spell Mastery from origins so that we can have stronger spells that are (ostensibly?) balanced by being weaker in the earlier turns before you can fill your graveyard.
I want Jihora not as a planeswalker. Awesome RU legend im super down with but please not a walker. Any of the other legends from the plane would also be very acceptable like Lovisa Coldeyes.

Yeah too be honest I'm a little scared that all those guys will be planeswalkers, as it'll be more popular for standard, but sucks for commander.
Jhoira of the Ghitu was the first legend I ever built a deck around, way before Commander was even a thing. I'll be unfairly judging the entirety of Dominaria by the quality of the new Jhoira card
The ones I want rhe most are Karn and Jaya. Maybe a Jodah too but thats because I've never read his books and I want the guy who beat Mairail to get a card.
I want a UW Teferi. He's probably gonna be a walker seeing he gets his own deck and all. As long as Karn or Jaya dont sacrifice their own sparks to mend his then I'm fine with that. More Azorius walkers are always a good thing.
Jhoira is probably gonna be the UR artificer she should have been from the get go and everyone has been asking for. If Wizards drops the ball again here everyone is gonna go crazy. I personally dont care for her but its good to see an Izzet that pushes for something other than spellslinger.
Hope we get Squee and Multani. Also hoping that Belzenlock is Rakdos and not just monoblack.
All the other Dominarian legends we know should be long dead to be honest. The Weatherlight story was like 300 years ago right? S
Never cared much for Onslaught legends (the story just went crazy after a point) with the exception of Laquatous, Ixidor and Chainer and they are all dead sadly.

I kinda hope not since I think we need a few more mono-colored walkers outside of the gatewatch.
Also hoping that Belzenlock is Rakdos and not just monoblack.
I think we are getting Liliana, Belzenlock and her brother in card form, I think having Belzenlock or her brother multicolor would be needed.

Lore-wise she never was a walker, we already have a UR artifact walker with Saheeli (which is the space I think Jihora will play in this time around) and with Karn, Jaya, Liliana, Chandra, Gideon, what appeared to be a re-sparked Teferi and maybe Jace all running around they aren't hurting for walkers.

When it comes to new characters rather than returning ones, seeing as the Gatewatch are looking for people to fight Bolas, how about a distant descendant of Clan Umezawa?
Preferably U/B with Ninja synergy.
I know that's a stretch, but Minotaurs got two legendary creatures after people were wishing for those, and Ninja's don't have a UB legendary. They have a U, and a B, but no UB.

I think the reasoning is that a creature with the actual 'ninja' type is expected to have ninjutsu, which doesn't work from the command zone and makes Commander players sad. So they keep skirting the issue with ninja-supportive commanders that are not, themselves, ninjas.
I would love a new ninja legend with Mary O'Kill's 'switch' mechanic. Of all the Unstable mechanics, that's the one I would most love to see in black border.
But that's a card better suited to appear in a Commander product, or a Return to Kamigawa set.
I love Magic lore, but I'm not so familiar with the lore from OG dominaria. The things that I want are largely mechanics based. I really want commanders that make really niche lousy cards shine in a new context, much like The Gitrog Monster and Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker do. I'm honestly really tired of cookie-cutter 'EDH REC' style decks. Honestly, if I see your commander and your first few turns and can accurately predict 85% of your cards, its a real problem.
I had some ideas of stuff I would love as a commander. Honestly, there are tons of effects non-legendary creatures that I would love to have as commanders. Recent examples include Hostage Taker (a correctly worded version), Pathbreaker Ibex, Void Winnower, Crested Sunmare, or Gray Merchant of Asphodel. I think each of those could be flavored as legendary, and would lead to awesome, different deck styles.

Angels are my favorite creature type, so i'm really looking forward to the new one. The vamp wtv, hoping he has an interesting ability like Kalitas.

Out of these, Jodah And Josu seem interesting, but i'm really hoping for a new Radha, Squee, Multani and Lim-Dul as Raven Man.

In all fairness, Ulrich is pretty goddamned awful.

Honestly, the thing I want more than anything is an interesting Boros commander that provides some sort of card advantage (Blaze Commando, Assemble the Legion or Tamanoa anyone?) and isn't super combat heavy. Maybe a Training Grounds type effect. Maybe a tutor for artifacts/enchantments like a Hoarding Dragon/Totem-Guide Hartbeest that really appreciates Blood Moon/Ensnaring Bridge. Spitemare/Boros Reckoner could be pretty sweet, and the Reckoner could easily be flavored as legendary.
I'm just rambling now.
