I want to play a U deck but not sure which commander to go with. I'm not interested in the typical draw cards win with Laboratory Maniac strategies, I want something different than the norm. Stitcher Geralf and Jalira, Master Polymorphist seem too close to green and I aready have a Sen triplets theft deck so no Memnarch. I was kind of leaning towards either teferi, temporal archmage or Patron of the Moon as they play differently and have unique cards. I want something above casual but not ultra competitive.
I play only about 4 or 5 white cards in my Taigam, Ojutai Master list - so it's nearly mono-blue. It can be pretty flexible and hang with strong decks if it needs to.
sakashima the impostor clone and steal deck, I have one, its a blast to play. It wins an ok amount of the time, but thats more due to my misplaying then the deck. My favorite thing to do is make a game winning combo with my opponents stuff.
Rayne, Academy Chancellor ensures you get cards when they mess with you. She's cheap to start, so you can cast her a lot each game. She would work in a "tax" deck where they have to pay some price to interact with you, and that can be as heavy or light as you wish.
You could wizard tribal with heavies in your 99 like Barrin, Arcanis, and others.
I on occasion play a somewhat grindy draw go style of voltron with Kefnet. My win condition is beating face but I generally play very defensively in the early game unless I am faced with planeswalker / combo decks which I think its cool that I can shift gears and become an aggressive deck.
I have my list in my sig.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Alexi, Zephyr Mage is a powerful defensive option that easily shifts to offense once you have beaters on the table. Bounce their entire army? (What's not to love?)
I play Thada Adel, Acquisitor with no real wincons of my own (well, Rimefeather Owl is a beater with a snow mana base). It makes for high variance games, and no two games are ever the same.
@Mxb545 Sakashima the Imposter is really interesting but I see him as more of a 99 than a commander. Plus i'm not too crazy about shapeshifter tribal.
@Outcryqq dumping big creatures and swing is pretty much a G thing. I want something more unique. And I have a Tishana, Voice of Thunder deck with a lot of those creatures.
@Boros_Blendo Rayne, academy chancellor fits into the draw your deck strategy which I'm trying to avoid. Alexi, Zephyr mage seems unique, I'll look into that one. Any experience with it?
@Volrath Now that's an interesting one. Never even bothered to look at Taniwha until you suggested it. Lots of unique cards there. Not too sure how his deck works but that's what i find intriguing. Do you have any experience with this deck?
You could go weird wth blind seer or mistform ultimus , Blind seer can be fun with hossers. With Douse you have 2UU : Counter target spell. Ultimus can be voltroned up by any blue or colorlesd tribal stuff
There's another legend whose name I don't remember that pumps face down creatures. You could go morph or manifest for a change.

yep, Alexi either has to be dealt with, or she can wreck a side's board position for turns with a single activation, which can be used in political games as easily as reducing attackers homing in on you. Along with other cards like Sleep, Illusionist's Gambit, Curse of the Swine, Polymorphist's Jest, Wash Out and others, Alexi can give you a repeatable bounce cannon to round an already impressive protection suite. Card draw, however, will help keep your hand stocked with expendable cards to keep Alexi viable past her first use, so don't look past having some of that.
As for Rayne, she doesn't really lend to drawing one's deck. All she ensures is that if someone goes after your resources, you get cards to help keep your board position up. That's not at all degenerate, it's actually utilitarian, but I understand if she's not your cup of tea.
Ok so i couldn't choose between Patron of the Moon and Taniwha so i decided to make both decks lol. Is there any obscure cards that are good with these commanders or if you guys have any experiences with them it would be awesome to hear.
Phasing happens on untap, not upkeep and Taniwha's trigger doesn't phase in phased out lands. Paradox Haze doesn't help you here. Instant speed effects and things like Leyline of Anticipation so you can play in response to the phasing trigger are more helpful, as are mana rocks.
patron can play a decent mana denial game as long as you ignore that your general costs 7 and you don't mind annoying people. Mana Breach and Overburden are easy to play around with the general. If you have access to them (no budget, online, proxy, whatever), Back to Basics, Land Equilibrium, and Invoke Prejudice typically play well in EDH. Patron helps enable combo kills with Amulet of Vigor (or another way to untap the lands, like Retreat to Coralhelm + Fatestitcher), land bounce like moonfolk or Storm Cauldron, and mana doublers like High Tide or Caged Sun. Sunder + floating mana typically gets a tablewide scoop unless someone can remove Patron in response.
If you're looking for friendlier Patron, go heavier on moonfolk tribal elements. Adventuring Gear and Flooded Shoreline both play very nicely with the general. Flow of Ideas provides a lot of card draw and you're probably not in a super competitive meta if you're building Patron.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
For Taniwha, I think Eon Hub is the only way to keep your lands from phasing out. You can take advantage of the fact that you often don't have lands in play with things like Ward of Bones, but in general I'm not a fan of where Taniwha takes a deck's focus.
I really like Patron of the Moon, but it also has the trap of taking you down a path where resource denial becomes the deck focus.
I was in your exact shoes at one point where I couldn't figure out what mono-U commander I wanted to build, and I'm actually having a blast playing Jalira, Master Polymorphist. It allowed me to play a ton of other Legendary blue cards that I couldn't decide upon and the deck has a fun randomness factor to it while still being pretty nasty once it gets going.

Lol got to agree on that but i already got a UR chaos build with her in the 99.
Aside from that, Talrand, Sky Summoner and Baral, Chief of Compliance are pretty good. Talrand is a Timmy card while Baral is actually pretty high tier. You can go wizard tribal with Azami, Lady of Scrolls too for some competitive fun.
Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge is an obvious choice for Laboratory Maniac decks.

I have a Patron of the Moon deck, but its pretty weak, obviously 7 mana is a thing (even with Moonfolk offering, which I do have Moonfolk).
So yeah if you are avoiding theft and draw then the higher-tier options are artifact based strategies with Muzzio, Visionary Architect, Arcum Dagsson
Jalira, Master Polymorphist is also something you can build around nicely.
Niv-Mizzet Reborn
Feather, the Redeemed
Estrid, the Masked
Teshar
Tymna/Ravos
Najeela, Blade-Blossom
Firesong & Sunspeaker
Zur the Enchanter
Lazav, the Multifarious

Patron I would think you'd want lots and lots of landfall - Retreat to Coralhelm, Roil Elemental etc.
