I had a Kozilek 2.0 player cast this against me Wednesday. All get got out of the effect was a free Arcbound Crusher before the Golem died. Then the crusher died when it was his only creature, despite having a decent number of +1/+1 counters on it.
In my experience with this effect (mostly through Patron of the Kitsune) it's actually really powerful if you land in an aggro mirror match. It may look sort of pillow-forty, but it only shines when multiple players are swinging out.

Zedruu: "This deck is not only able to go crazy - it also needs to do so."
The Meaning of Life: "M-hmm. Well, it's nothing very special. Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations"
Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
It's a card that does nothing but gain you life, but multiple lifegain triggers can be useful. It's also extremely expensive. I'd rather play Noble Purpose and True Conviction. Orim's Prayer is better if you're not planning on attacking (and even encourages opponents to attack each other without being annoying like Propaganda effects.)
All in all, it's actually not that bad. It's not a first pick in most decks by any means, but I'd still give it a solid 7/10.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Love this card. Ca that's politically safe, protection by the time you usually need it (and are running out of basics), doesn't take a land drop like maze, colorless ci, all around excellent card, if not super busted or anything. Just a real nice flexible value card.
I've really enjoyed most of the flip lands. It's like a quest but with cooler payoffs and some fallback value.
I don't get it. Why does having a good compass put you in a maze? Isn't that thematically backwards?
Being a thaumatic compass, it doesn't point to a magnetic north but to nexuses of Thaums, which in this case happens to be located in a maze. Blame the maze designer, not the compass.
Well, it has something to do with aether. Apparently aether is in the sky on Ixalan as well? That's about all I got out of that technobabble.
It's not exactly ramp, but it still hits all your drops. And it has obvious synergies in green (Seedborn Muse, anything that lets you play more than one land) to further accelerate it.

The utility goes up the more colors your commander has. As it stands I wouldn't run it outside of a 4+ colors deck but I could see it being played in a budget 3-color deck.

Your new prescription eyeglasses don’t work. You still can’t see things my way.
Like Farseek, but the land comes in untapped. I can imagine some decks when this might be very important, but I'm not sure it's a good value for general use. Maybe in four- or five-color, and even there I've never felt the need to run it.
I did briefly consider it for Windgrace, but then I remembered Amulet of Vigor exists. That's a card that seriously needs a reprint.
Its not bad, and it's caught in an odd place because that was also the wording for the Portal version of Untamed Wilds, and Untamed Wilds sucks even more, but this had never been reprinted. It's just overshadowed.

This was my beater of choice before Tarmogoyf came allong. For legacy at least. I still play it a lot in commander. A dork that can be a 4/4 beater in a pinch is truly awesome. Almost as awesome as it's art and flavor text.

Please, children, we all know it's obviously Hidden Gibbons.
But yeah, bless Werebear. He's even a Bear for all your bear tribal decks (he accelerates up to 4 mana on turn 3 and can get up to 4 power if you're running Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma! COMBO!) I'm not sure what I think of the retroactive addition of Human to his creature types, though. I guess that's another matter of gibbon take.

That said, it can fuel a lot of life payment effects in white/black token decks, but then, so can Suture Priest, which also hurts opponents for playing tokens. And it can fuel an Aetherflux Reservoir or Felidar Sovereign/Test of Endurance win. And if you run a lot of lifegain triggers like Searing Meditation or Drogskol Reaver, that's another use for it.
All in all, it's actually not that bad. It's not a first pick in most decks by any means, but I'd still give it a solid 7/10.

Grabbing duals (and Murmuring Bosk): Why not just run Darksteel Ingot, Coalition Relic, Chromatic Lantern, Cultivator's Caravan, Dragon's Hoard, or Manalith, strictly worse than all of the above? To say nothing of the numerous dorks of paradise we've gotten over the years. Not to mention that Nature's Lore and Wood Elves exist, unless you specifically need one of the six nongreen duals in that cycle, and if you do, Farseek exists.
Possible redeeming qualities? Mistveil Plains, Moonring Island, Leechridden Swamp, Madblind Mountain, and Sapseep Forest.
