She blinks a creature you control and returns it under your control. There is a synergy there.
And of course, she's made much better with Panharmonicon. Have two non-angel nontoken creatures out with Panharmonicon, bring her out, and you get, at a minimum, six triggers off of variousrelevantcards (two from her, and two each from the creatures you blink). If those creatures are things like Captain of the Watch, so much the better.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Remember when This and Thragtusk were in the same Standard?
This fine angel is basically a staple for anything with White. For me and my groups, it usually hovers between overly efficient, and absolute blowout. Format All-Star if you ask me.
Old cards had a whole lot of variations on "if this hits a player, you may do something else in instead." Many of them are pretty worthless, but shadow is basically unblockable and 3 damage to a creature is really useful (as anyone who's ever taken Lightning Bolt for a spin will assure you). This dude's not the worst, especially with generals about that can double the damage or give it haste.

Gets you some style points, but not much more. If you want to shoot three damage to a creature, shoot three damage to a creature, don't talk. Plenty of cards let you do that.
Riku of Two Reflections - Copy, then copy again | Shattergang Brothers - Token Sac&Recur | Gahiji, Honored One - Multiple attack steps | Karametra, God of Harvests - Landfall, Creaturefall, Shroud | Ruhan of the Fomori - Stop hitting yourself | Zurgo Helmsmasher - Equipment&Wraths | Crosis, the Purger - Dragon Tribal Reanimator | Derevi, Empyrial Tactician - No stax, just tap and untap fun | Anafenza, the Foremost - Enduring Ideal Enchantress | Sharuum, the Hegemon - Sphinx Tribal Control | Noyan Dar - Spellslinger | The Mimeoplasm - Counterpalooza

Still convinced the guy on Beseech the Queen is wearing a Mitra-type hat. Wake up sheeple!
I might actually have to take back my assessment, now that I think about it a bit. If seen as removal, these guys are not great. If seen as aggro unblockable beater that occasionally takes out a bothersome creature, they might actually do some work in the right deck. They can carry some swords, after all. Might have to test them in my Gahiji double-strike deck.

This one? The damage scales with power, so that's good, but most of the time, I'd prefer Kamahl, Pit Fighter for the haste, even though Kamahl is more expensive.

Personally I wouldn't consider mercenary or crusader playable. double cost firebreathing sucks and if you have infinite mana there's better places to put it. I'd much prefer just having 1 more static power - and that's only playable in sygg, river cutthroat imo.
Sorry, the card I meant to link to was Staying Power.

Even though it actually makes this card worse that it doesn't interact specifically with charge counters, I love that this still uses winch counters. Also, with proliferate and the million ways to untap a permanent we've had enter the card pool since this was printed, it's only gotten better over time.

Extremely specific counters are the newest hipster trend. Very niche.
This could pull weight, but it's a lot of hoops to jump through. Things like Unwinding Clock, Clock of Omens, Voltaic Key and such could make this viable with some sort of proliferate engine. I wouldn't play it, but I totally wouldn't blame you if you did.
Needing to pay (and tap) to winch + losing the counters + costing 1 more is the kiss of death for this thing. It's just way too slow, despite the advantage of being able to over-winch without downside.
It's trash. It sucks as a way to cheat out dudes because you are still spending the mana and it takes forever. It is somewhat useful as a way around counters, Knowledge Pool, and some mana denial, like late game Armageddon or the handful of cards that limit lands in play, or blood moon effects. It's still going to take an hour of real time before it does anything though. Potentially a meta call, but other cards a better.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
I'm trying to think of a situation in which I might run this in a deck over, say, Quicksilver Amulet, and I am failing utterly. Taking two turns to cheat in Llanowar Elves doesn't sound like something I would ever want in a deck. Even adding proliferate, it is just too slow. Terrible card. Like, 1 on 0-10 scale.

My thought too. Though Aether Vial is a ratchet, and this does have that on it. It's also cheaper, though you're going to be paying mana every turn to make it work.
There are better things to do with all those cards.
Better options include Quicksilver Amulet and plenty of things in green. If I'm playing Animar, I really don't need this.

How does this card work with Gisela? You can’t double up on damage (double once to opponent then double again for redirect), right?
Repercussion fun!
Also, the damage remains “combat damage,” right? Just wondering how Soul-Scar Mage interacts.
(U/B)(U/B)(U/B) JUMP IN THE LINE, ROCK YOUR BODY IN TIME
(R/W)(R/W)(R/W) RISING FROM THE NEON GLOOM, SHINING LIKE A CRAZY MOON
(U/R)(R/G)(G/U) STEALIN' WHEN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN BUYIN'
0: The next time Soltari Guerrillas would deal combat damage to an opponent this turn, it deals that damage to target creature instead.
Doesn't sound like it quadruples it. Sounds like it remains combat damage.

Another good point that’s been mentioned. Carries equipment like a champ.
Neat little trick with Deftblade elite and Kusari-Gama. Attack with DE(or any other provoker) and SG, provoking a creature, bam, one sided Sweltering Suns. Combine that with a Damage doubler, or Repercussion.
Quite possibly the best carrier for Quietus Spike. It’s definitely a nifty ability that can be built to shine.
Dauthi Embrace Yup.
Dauthi Mercenary Unblockable firebreathing.
Jodah's Avenger Potential swordbearer. Meh, I still think Invisible Stalker is better.
Nether Traitor It's recurrable. That's sufficient for me.
Shadow Sliver Obligatory synergy with Crystalline Sliver noted.
Soltari Champion Better battle cry, and just like battle cry, it has synergy with all the usual "extra combat step" abilities. Good boy
Soltari Crusader Firebreathing on an unblockable.
Stronghold Rats Keep in mind you discard a card as well.
Thalakos Deceiver Cheap permanent steal. (As opposed to ones like Control Magic.) Downside, it takes a whole turn without haste.
This one? The damage scales with power, so that's good, but most of the time, I'd prefer Kamahl, Pit Fighter for the haste, even though Kamahl is more expensive.
On phasing:
I like to think of these guys as a 3 damage Prodigal Sorcerer. Lightning Crafter is much worse with that Champion (mostly) drawback.
Also wtf is "good boy"?

i was thinking of how to really make it shine, and i can only come up with the likes of soul barrier and flash-blocker kobolds of kher keep?
works in the 'unusual counters-theme' edh deck in combination with scream counters and filibuster counters i suppose.
Legacy - Solidarity - mono U aggro - burn - Imperial Painter - Strawberry Shortcake - Bluuzards - bom

To make this good, you would require plenty of ways to untap it and add counters. So, we're talking Seedborn Muse, Clock of Omens, Filigree Sages, Mind Over Matter, proliferate cards, Doubling Season, Gilder Bairn, Vorel of the Hull Clade.
There are better things to do with all those cards.
