Clash, I do think it's weird how horribly it performed with Spikes. It is possible to build a deck with clash as a theme. (It would probably be a ramp or reanimator deck with plenty of digging.) So it's not like it's a coin toss.
That second ability is something I've always called lapsing, you maintain card parity, though it doesn't permanently deal with the threat.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
One time back when I had Hokori, Dust Drinker: the deck, the player to my left had a Scourglass they couldn't reasonably activate, because if he did, he'd be the only player who didn't get to untap. And the player to his left was actually able to play through Hokori to an extent, but refused to extend into the board with a looming Scourglass. Then the game ended without ever popping the Scourglass, leaving the 3rd player exceptionally frustrated. I honestly don't remember who won. Good times!

A good example of sometimes the threat of a wrath being just as good as actually casting a wrath.

That's the tradeoff though. It's a boardwipe that hits enchantments and planewalkers too, can be built around by using artifact creatures to survive the blast, and (usually) lets you boardwipe with your lands untapped so you get the first chance to rebuild, and the balancing factor is that it's 5 mana and has restrictive timing.

Also for the record I also meant to write "It enters the battlefield tapped" as well because like heck if I want that thing activate-able on the turn it enters.
As it ultimately is now I mean, it's certainly unique and cost efficient for what it does. Having such a specific period of time to use it is the price to pay I suppose.
In most decks, I'd rather have Nev's Disk. If my meta is rampant with super friends and enchantress, this is nice. Where it really shines is when you are running an artifact deck and have a way to recur it repeatedly.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
Very close to being a solid card, the upkeep restriction really hurts the card, but it can be recurred more easily than most other boardwipes and leaves rocks on the table. Checks a lot of the same boxes that Cataclysmic Gearhulk does, actually. I don't get many opportunities to run either, but I'd like to.
I'm glad you said "flavorwise", since I wouldn't use Immortal Coil in EDH for love nor money.
Scourglass has to be one of my favorite boardwipes, since it can really screw over a lot of decks. The problem is that EDH is also very artifact-heavy.

I have one scour glass in my collection somewhere, but i've never ended up using it. No idea why. Maybe its the activation restriction, or the fact that it's got white in it, or that it's easily disruptible. But i think the rattlesnake effect of it is good though. I might give it a go just for that rattlesnake effect. Doubt it'll be all that great though.
But yeah, Rings is great. It combos with tons of commanders, and there are plenty of decks that run a ton of activated abilities that get stupid good when copied from Planeswalkers, untap abilities, fetchlands, etc. The only issue I have with the card is that there are some effects that some people don't realize are not activated abilities; they are triggered abilities (cards like Genesis, Riku of Two Reflections, etc.)
I just want people to love Mirror of Fate the way I do. For all that card has done for me, it's the least I can do to obsessively mention it every single time the random card synergizes with it.

But doesn't the copy exile the first 7 cards you put in the library?
@3drinks: We should just call that deck Gifts Unwanted.
@Dunharrow: The end result would be a colorless Doomsday of sorts, just getting seven cards instead of five.
Anyway, what is there to say about this? Fetchlands are the obvious value, but just think of what you can do with any sort of things stapled on a creature or land.

I have a soft spot for Spirit Shackle, as I got hold of the card sometime where I was 7 years or so. I was completely entranced by the card art and mystical feeling of the game. Mind you, I'm from Denmark, so I couldn't even read it. Good times. I still hold to this day that while the modern frames are far better than the old frames and font, I wouldn't have reacted to the card in the same way if it didn't have the bubbly texture and mystical font. I like that my cards read cleanly, but I wish there was some kind of frame treatment that gave the game a more tomey feel without compensating clarity.
For the card itself, eh, I might add it in a crap cube at some point.
I initially thought the random had been Whelming Wave.
