Hey gang been awhile since I have posted in here. But am looking to refuel myself. I have still been steady playing adding a few new decks and tweaking old ones. Current additions that haven't been added to my signature are vial smasher/ Thrasios, Triton Hero- group hug, o-kagachi- spirit tribal, and edgar- vampire tribal. I have been mulling the idea of either kozliek the great distortion or 4c wall tribal. But am interested in building something truly unique so any ideas will help. As shown I like to take a different approach usually to a commander minus Edgar. So any input into this will be appreciated.
No offense, but I think it's a little weird when people say "I want to make a unique deck but I need an idea to start with." It's kinda like saying "I want to write a great work of fiction, but first I need someone to tell me what the plot is." If you think you can build cool unique decks, then shouldn't you be able to come up with the idea yourself?
I'd recommend just looking through the list of legendary creatures and see if any ideas stick out to you, that's what I generally do. As another way of thinking about things, perhaps consider what you want your deck to do, experience-wise. Do you want a deck that's going to be fun to play against? If that's your goal, then consider what sorts of things do you think are the most fun things to play against. Do you want a deck that has a funny win condition? Then maybe find a win condition that's fun and try to work backwards to build a deck that works around it. Maybe you want a deck that protects weaker players while hurting the powerful, you could think about how you might do that.
Just have a think about what you want to get out of your commander games, and try to make a deck that can help you do that. That's my advice.

Yes the statement is weird and such but also at the same time bouncing ideas off people is a great way to generate new ideas that one yourself could not come up with or even the person's recommendation. And the first thing I did was go through the list of legendary creatures, A lot of the times ill take a commander or one I make a placeholder with filler or spare cards and slowly grow it and mold it into what I want at the time. But as of right now I've hit a mental block on the building aspect and so far nothing is standing out to me. Who is to say someone makes a recommendation on a commander and I see it in a new light as them. This is how you truly grow ideas, its the same thing, you truly think that all vampire novels have the same plotline?
Getting a story prompt isn't the same as writing the novel
Nothing in the creative process is truly unique, there are plenty of ideas to build upon.
Personally, I put together Temmet UW tokens. It isn't particularly strong, there isn't a lot of a creature token support in those colors that isn't "go wide" ... but I pulled together a win today.
Multiple copies of Angel of Sanctions to keep board control, swinging with a Desolation Twin clone. It was a lot of fun.
Getting a story prompt isn't the same as writing the novel
Sure, I never said he was asking for someone to build the entire deck for him (i.e. write the novel). But if you want to have a "truly unique" deck it seems to me you ought to come up with the idea yourself, and if you want to write an original novel I wouldn't start from someone else's prompt.
Anyway there are obviously creative and personal elements to every part of writing a story and building a deck, but imo if you want to focus on being "truly unique", then making the seed of your project someone else's idea is not the right way to go. If you said "I want to build a (tokens/voltron/stax/etc) deck, what are some commander ideas?" then that would make sense, because you aren't trying to be "truly unique", you're just making your own version of what's already been done.
If you want thoughts on the PROCESS, i.e. how can I go about creating my own ideas, then that makes sense; some of us have been making decks for a long time and have strategies for coming up with original (or at least original-ish) ideas for strategies we're interested in exploring. But just asking for an idea seems like the wrong approach. I've already shared some of my ideas on that front.
If you want to try wall tribal, that seems like it could be amusing (I mean, it's almost certainly really really bad, but that can be fun too). 4 color seems likely to make things a lot harder since you can't run doran, the siege tower as your commander, though, which would be one of the few reasons to justify running walls. Kozilek is a strong deck but unlikely to be especially unique imo - most eldrazi decks look roughly the same, thanks to the high cmc of their commanders demanding ramp, and the lack of colors significantly limiting the card pool.

In another thread the question of imagination vs. deck strength popped up, which made me think of a few off ideas for allegedly "solved" commanders that read like this:
My best bet for you would be to find a commander that is fairly open technically, that allows you to go crazy with ideas and subthemes. Take it from there and sift through the specific card pool. Sooner or later you'll stumble upon an idea or card you'd want to build around.
- You could take on of the PW commanders and try to build a creatureless deck.
- I'm currently building a Surrak Dragonclaw deck focused on having the biggest P/T possible. And some haste granting. Big bad hasty trample damage!

Walls are propably hyper casual (aka bad), unless you have a way to break them with Doran, the Siege Tower or cheat a huge Wall of Blood into play/combat with Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Assault Formation, Rolling Stones, Wakestone Gargoyle or else.

Then there are things like Opalescence + Warstorm Surge + Rite of Replication to deal 180 damage.
I feel like there is somewhere a deck made to abuse all these cool ways to clone artifacts and enchantments (and creatures too, I guess).
