I wonder, say you could only play 1 land in a game, now not a single copy but every land had to have the same name (So in this case we will go with command tower) Would you run a deck where you could make your mana base all the same land(IE 37 (give or take) command towers)?
I know there will be a smartass who will come in and say All Cabal Coffers or all Gaea's Cradle. Here the catch, You can ONLY run that land. (Any amount you want, but ONLY that land)
Chances are command tower would win this challenge hands down due to the fact that it produces the mana you need, but maybe not.
Stuff like Coffers and Cradle are dependent upon outside mana/conditions to produce mana, so you'd have to run a lot of manarocks and support (Blanket of Night for Coffers, 0 drops for Cradle), etc. to turn them on.
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would be my choice over Coffers in monoblack, but it's legendary. So I'm going to avoid legendary lands.
Real answers (not really, many of these are silly):
All Opal Palace with the right mana rock support could power out some very large commanders very quickly.
Ah that is true. turn one opal place into sol ring and mana crypt could make rafiq much bigger. if you have an exploration as well that is a turn 2 rafic of the many with four +1/+1 counters. Making him a 2 turn clock meaning he can elimnate someone turn 4. All you need is a way to pump him by 3 and he can eliminate someone as early as turn 3.
For any tri-color deck (or more) it is going to be hard to beat mono-Command Tower. Some may choose to do mono-Opal Palace instead, assuming they run tons of mana rocks and care about putting a ton of +1/+1 counters on their commander.
Most two-color decks will probably also want mono-tower, but G/x decks would want the appropriate dual land for the Nature's Lore/Wood Elves/Farseek interaction.
Monocolor is where it should get interesting, but honestly most stuff seems too slow to justify doing just basic lands unless you have a specific niche. Every land that EtB untapped requires other lands to work OR is Legendary which is bad news bears. Artifact lands are intriguing for a few commanders - Daretti, Scrap Savant would love being able to just run 37 Great Furnace although he might love something like Ancient Tomb or (assuming no banned cards) 37 Cloudposts or Mishra's Workshops with a few red-producing rocks to cast him. Ditto some Blue or White artifact-heavy lists. A few other interesting things...
I like the idea of a cycling or loam deck (Taigam, Sidisi's Hand for UB Cycling, Borborygmos Enraged or Omnath, Locus of Rage for a Life from the Loam/Burning Vengeance/Crucible of Worlds/Seismic Assault-style deck) that just runs 37 cycling duals. It's probably bad and wrong, but it is interesting and my kind of theoretical durdle-machine.
Mono-brown is the real winner here, as running 37 Cloudposts for Kozilek or Ulamog is just gross.

yep depends on colors but Colorless with Cloudposts is definitely dirty.
I would never run such a deck. Getting your entire mana base hit with Surgical or Extirpate sounds bad. If I HAD to, I would run a deck based on recurring my 40 Strip Mines, getting colored Mana from mana rocks.

Actually in this hypothetical world, I think Cloudpost just solves the format - even two color decks are better off running Cloudposts + Signets to cast their commander. The power of slamming turn 4 Kozi (possibly turn 2 or turn 3 with rocks) is too powerful and no one is going to be able to consistently hit Blood Moon, Back to Basics, or other hate cards to stop the line of play.
Imagine dealing with a stock deck from the Kozilek Primer, expect its mana base is the exponential Cloudpost chain:
This isn't even optimized, since it is a list that assumed some number of Wastes and I also think that mana rocks that cost 4+ are unneeded when your lands will be generating 12 mana alone on turn 4. Seems tough to beat consistently and reliably though as it turbo-charged an already great deck.

No love for Strip Mine or Wasteland? If you use rocks to generate colored mana (Chromatic Lantern being an all star here by the way) in a Gitrog or an Azusa deck you could potentiall lock down Cloudpost shenanigans.

Yes the deck is turbo charged, Cloudpost is oficially the best bet. Aside from the fact that you want to play colored generals, but at the same time, Wy play anything other than eldrazi if you have this option. it comes down to 2 questons
1) Do you have a sol ring, mana crypt (other super mana production in opening hand)
2) Do you go first?
If your opponent answered no to both you win. It all comes down to who is faster, and quite frankly, You are faster. you will without a doubt win. Cast kozi he casts Kozi, swing, he ha 1 permanent left, even if t is kozi, he will hit you but then you keep swinging, he will never have the production to keep up. 1v1 would cease to exist. And Kozilek & ulamog would be banned.
now lets say we need colors. using cloudpost, we NEED to hit signets and Lantern.
Cloudpost does it better even EtB tapped. Assuming you hit all your land drops for the first seven turns...

If you are colored I think three-color is best, as it enables you to run a maximum number of signets. Probably blue-based to Fabricate or Trophy Mage for a Chromatic Lantern or Coalition Relic, although every color but Red brings something good to the table. UGx also gets to try for a Prismatic Omen if you can hit G, while white is arguably better since it you can hit the WW for Celestial Dawn you are cooking with gas. Kuldotha Forgemaster is also crucial to have a colorless way to find your key cards quickly.
