Hello fellow commander players, I came into some cash and I am looking to build my 6th Commander Deck which hopefully plays differently to my other commander decks:
1. Kaalia - Typical Kaalia with MLD
2. Animar - Mass Creatures with some combo
3. Meren - Mid range reanimation deck
4. Zur - Enchantress Stax
5. Kess - Discard Control
Many players have said that Sultai is the best pairing because of Ramp, Draw and Interaction cards so that is the direction I have decided to pursue.
- OR is Bant better? Black has tutors which I do not plan on running many but White has Cheap removal.
Going back to Sultai, I realized that I do not have a land ramp deck so that is the direction I am going with but the problem is that there is no build around commander in Sultai besides The Mimeoplasm and I already have a graveyard based deck.
I am not the best deck builder and would appreciate advice from people on which of the three above should I build and it would be AMAZING if you could point me to decklist.
- I want to have a combo in the deck to end games but I dont want the deck to be looking to combo off ASAP
- I would like the deck to be a control / midrange deck
- I would like to run less tutors to increase variance of games.
I run a Damia deck that sounds like it’s exactly what you’re looking for. It’s a little bit of combo, control and aggro, effectively a good stuff deck. I run multiple tutors but more for ways to get out of sticky situations than to just combo out and win on the spot. I’ve found the right mix of spot removal, board wipes, ramp and effecient creatures to be quite effective, with some splashy spells and planeswalkers thrown in. It reminds of the old Rock archetype and is quite fun to play, you don’t always win the same way which keeps it fresh and because it’s really just goodstuff it’s hard for your opponents to shut you down.

I believe Damia was the third or fourth commander deck I built, originally being good stuff and just overtime finding some focus through tons of play. I only recently added the draw engines of Phyrexian Arena and Sensei’s Divining Top and it pushed the deck into overdrive, in addition, I’ve been slowly adding more and more recursion after I accidentally discovered the joy of copying Eternal Witness with Progenitor Mimic.
The deck functions just fine without Damia, and even better with her, the recursion adds some more resiliency and the goodstuff plan makes it difficult to shut down completely.
Common paths to victory include looping infinite turns or flat out combat damage. The power of Omniscience alongside Damia’s hand refilling is absurd, and almost always leads to a win.

That leaves me with Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Damia, Sage of Stone and Partner commanders.
