everyone keeps saying that dragons are slow but i have only run into that issue once. Most games i end up casting many dragons and have a nice board state with them. Even to the point were i am getting ganged up on due to my army. Eliminating players in one foul swoop. Even getting to point where I am hard casting 2 or 3 dragons a turn with mana left over.
What type of ramp do you use? Care to share a list?
Well i don't have time or a full list right now but I only use 1 ramp spell. Exploration
However Mirari's wake does help and I have a bunch of reduction (Urza's incubator for example) (Potentially i have have teh cost reduced by (i think) 7
My mana base is full of ABUs, Shocks, Fetches and a few utility lands) Ruination and back to basics are not played in my meta, Blood moon is but not often, And any other lad wipe takes out all lands not just non basics so playing a basic or non basic would not change anything. (plus blood moon doe snot hinder my deck as much as one would assume given my red dragons and colorless stuff.
Only 1 ramp spell? Interesting. I guess your mana base does the fixing and the cost reducers are "ramp." Lots of card draw?
Using the ideas on this thead, I have come up with the following semi-budget list. Any feedback welcome, this is first built from mostly scratch EDH deck, so feedback really welcome. The draw package is a bit suspect I think, and I am not in love with Scroll Rack in the list, it is a powerful card overall, but maybe Crystal Ball is a better bet since there is a lack of shuffle effects (or something else in the slot of different functon0.
Another thing is the ramp package. I am not sure if I should have 2cmc + 4cmc ramp spells or 2cmc + 3cmc ramp spells. The curve have a huge wall at 5cmc (due The Ur-Dragon, much of the 6 has moved to 5). Zendikar Resurgent is also pretty strong, but I am not sure at 7cmc.

Whether or not she really is that good the fact that she's a malicious seductress cannot be denied. Any innocent timmy will can suddenly find themselves embracing the dark side of EDH when they open up a box of heavenly inferno. It's almost like a cycle.
Stage 1: Cool! I can cheat in all these awesome dragons and demons and stuff!

Stage 4: Cool! I actually won't need mana anymore if Kaalia does her thing and also have rocks! In goes Armageddon and Winter Orb!
With this dangerous woman you'll never be the same...
I was a timmy but had moved from that state of my life into a heavy combo player just before the release of C11. Relly glad I did as i knew how to build effective decks back then. My arcum deck was a 4 turn clock in pods of 4. And I had a Nin deck completed the day she was spoiled. She was spoiled that morning, only saw it around noon, had her deck finished by 5:00 that night.
I am back to playing Timmy thanks to Dragons but I still have my other type of decks like my combo decks and control decks and shenanigan decks underway.
Dragon Arch has shown to be quite instant speed potent, so much so that card draw needs to keep up.
Some cards I have on hand that possibly could be helpful if pushing for a turn 3 threat.
Cheers
Burgeoning can find a nice slot that will be helpful. As for dragon arch. At the current moment it will see play in my deck but as my dragons become more mono colored (With the addition of Kukusho and yosei, hopefully soon) It will be more of a dead draw than anything.
I really need to get myself a copy of chrome mox. but it will not be for this deck.
I run Burgeoning but it's kinda a gamble of a card slot because it's only really good in the early game or the mid game if I get a steady amount of card draw going. Otherwise I find myself wishing it had cycling. It's...Interesting.
Also thinking about adding Crucible of Worlds for my fetches, combating non-basic land hate (I try to avoid that guy with The Gitrog Monster lands deck like the plague but he just won't leave me be...), and having a neat little engine with Haven of the Spirit Dragon. Then I look at crucible's price tag and want to drown myself.

Has anyone played with Ever After in their lists? Or in any decks at all, for that matter? For six mana, you get two creatures back from your yard which is a nice bargain, and then it puts itself on the bottom of your library. It's a pretty budget card but I like it because two dragons for six mana is usually a trade I am willing to make.
Also what about Phyrexian Reclamation? It usually works in decks like Chainer or Ayli best, but it is a cheap way to get your Dragons back, and although you'll have to cast them again, it's still a repeatable effect.
Also I'm running Rites of Flourishing because most of my opponents fear my Dragon deck, and considering it's a slower deck I like to play a bit politically in order to survive. Rites let's me draw cards and play more lands, which are both needed in this deck. Any thoughts on this card?
Dragonspeaker Shaman and his little brother Dragonlord's Servant... are these guys worth it? Sure they let you play dragons for less mana, but I feel like they're big targets or just too susceptible to most removal... and getting one of them early on is nice but also a crutch if you don't have a lot of other ramp. Are these guys worth keeping in or taking out? I haven't really got to use them yet so I don't know how I feel about them.

I have a tiny bit of experience in my Gitrog Monster deck with ever after but not enough to say whether it would make a good fit or not. Seems worth trying out as I agree that its a fair rate.
I'm not sure I'm feeling Phyrexian Reclamation though. This is one I have no experience with but it seems awfully slow since you have to recast them and I've found that dragons already makes me a target so I don't want to make my opponents job any easier.
Rights is probably just bad. Seems to me in a deck like this "hey look I'm giving you cards and lands!" Would just be seen as a thinly veiled attempt to hide your own ramp and draw. Exploration or Burgeoning are better for ramp and Temur Ascendancy and its ilk are probably better for draw.
I havent had a whole lot of games where I've gotten Dragonspeaker or Servant in my opener so I'm a bit biased towards them being worse since they're bad later in the game. But I'm pretty sure that Dragonspeaker is just worse than Urza's Incubator unless you don't have the $20 to drop on it. I mean they're the same cmc, you get the same reduction but incubator is easier on your mana and less vulnerable, if even just a little.
I stlll run both speaker and servant, they actually do a lot of work and when you have big scary dragons out, they kind of stay hidden. Fact is, they are far less scary and while they do may it easier to cast, I have so much mana reduction and a WORKING mana base, they don;t do much in terms of diminishing a threat when removal is used on them. It is a waste to play a Path on Dragonspeaker sure i may run no basics but they just wasted a GOOD removal on a dragonspeaker.
As for Flourishing, NO. Benefits my opponents too much. I already have enough draw in my deck. Not wanting to help them out.
Skittles is good in Scion but I'd say not so much in Ur. In Scion hes part of a combo but in Ur he's just a target that's going to scare people into coming for you.
Malfegor is a maybe but I'd say on the low end. Most of the time I just don't want to discard my hand. Sure sometimes ill be able to refuel but I don't think emptying my hand is quite worth it.
You'd be surprised how often Ryusei just doesnt get the job done. Its hard to justify most sac outlets in this deck, Greater Good being the notable exception. He may be the most meta dependant though. If you find yourself getting overrun by lots of small ground duders and can justify the sac outlets maybe it'll be good but I would suggest just getting good boardwipes instead.
What do you think about this two cards? Genju of the Realm (8/12 trample for land, not bad at all) and Nature's Will.
This is great ramp card Nissa's Pilgrimage.
Btw i had great mana base and almost everything for this deck. When play 1 vs 1 I won almost every time. But with 3 people is to difficult to win. Because almost everyone want to destroy my dragons. Finaly i found and bought Urza's incubator..
Why would you include Genju of the Realmin a dragon tribal deck? Nature's Will is okay but this probably isnt the deck for it. I'd rather be casting dragons on turn four. Not to throw shade at youoy but having a great five color mana base and being able to effectively play Nissa's Pilgrimage are more or less mutually exclusive.

Well I am removing Chord of Calling today (Great card but has never been cast yet )In the 100+ games i have never yet cast Chord, so It is leaving. Gonna grab a copy of Hellkite Overlord though, so I guess Nature's will is still not coming.
it really is too bad. my Dragon deck is a timmy deck and it deals combat damage, i would like to untap lands with nature's will (of course, if I get natures will, I would want to play it in unison with Hellkite Charger or aggravated assault

I play Savage Ventmaw so more or less I don't need the Untap all my mana because by that point I'll have enough lands to pay 1 for each combat lol.
My wife bought Wizards and Cats, I bought vampires, and my best friend bought Dragons. He is newer to magic and Commander, but I have been holding his hand and helping him the best I can along the way.
He is buying shocks and fetches, and I directed him towards getting all 10 signets as ramp. One goal was to play turn 2 ramp so you can follow up on turn 3 by casting a five drop dragon. That plan helped him out a lot to open games up. Over time, he began to find better support cards, card draw, removal, etc.
We eventually got to a point where I showed him how much better it was to swap Scion with The Ur Dragon. Now he is able to cast a turn 4 Scion consistently. he follows that up with a turn 5 activation, turning Scion into The Ur Dragon, attacking, drawing a card and slapping down a nice permanent for free, and smashing for 10 commander damage.
Depending on the board state, one move is to go for Atarka, World Render and the double strike Commander knock out punch. Getting in for 22 flying commander damage by turn 6 is quite good and forces opponents to dig for spot removal.
Another goal is to just get Teneb and reanimate The Ur Dragon.
When we play, the toolbox nature of Scion also bails his deck out of games. Silumgar, the Drifting Death has done wonders at slowing down Vampires and getting Dragons out of tight spot.
Really, everything depends on what your play group looks like.
For example, I have seen Animar, Soul of Elements cast on turn three and combo his creatures out and win on turn 4. I also notice that Narset, Enlightened Master ramps out on turn three, then attacks on turn four and almost always wins with what she reveals, between mass land destruction, extra turns and extra combat steps. My own Mizzix deck can consistently ramp into Mizzix on 3, dig & tutor up a combo on 4 and go off on turn 5.
If that is who you are playing against, neither Scion nor The Ur Dragon are really a deck you should be playing. On the other hand, if you are playing games that want to go to turn 8 or later, I have found the deck can be quite powerful.
The thing O reminded my friend was:
Wizards want to slow the game down and play defensive control until they find a combo or otherwise take over the late game with a single powerful turn.
Vampires like to swarm the table and then pump their army
Dragons, on the other hand, want to hit like a ton of bricks. One powerful strike, often with a trigger for attacking or dealing combat damge.
Cats (depending on go tall, go wide, or go equipment) are somewhere in the middle. They are not as fast as vampires, but they hit harder, but not as hard as dragons. Being in GW, they tend to have some of the best answers of all the decks, with plenty of artifact, enchantment, and creature exile while still swinging for a lot.
This advice helped him understand his role at the table. I told him that he cannot expect to just churn out a swarm of creatures in the first three or four turns like Cats or Vampires, but when his deck does get rolling, it tends to make big splashy changes to the game state.
In fact, because he is using Scion of the Ur Dragon as his commander now, he has actually begun to find an entire reanimation sub theme.
in fact, because of the play line where he goes for The Ur Dragon as his first transformation, this has resulted in The Ur Dragon seeing more play time on the battlefield than it ever had when it was leading the deck.

Yes, I mean the dragon deck already had tons of card draw built in. (Kindred Discovery is just one example) I also am using Elemental Bond, Painful truths, Sarkhan Unbroken and Herald's Horn (Which sort of works like draw if the condition is met)
As soon as I get a copy, i will also be Running Temur Ascendancy
Then you also have The Ur-Dragon which can draw cards and I like to copy him with Sakashima the Impostor
I should also mention that fist of suns helps a lot.
