Hellkite is... maybe? I don't think so. A 4/4 haste for four isn't worth it in commander for sure but a 5/5 with that Ping ability for 4 is why it's a maybe. But man is four mana for 2 damage rough. I've already managed to open 2 of them and I haven't dropped him into mine.
As for the tome I don't think so. I don't really struggle to draw cards in my deck so tacking a draw onto a 5 mana rock doesn't really make the cut, in my opinion.
Skarrgan is cute. But that is it. I am paying 4 mana for a 4/4 haste and flying, or a 5/5 flying With a (bad) mana dump ability. Now if i have have a haste enabler not so bad. And while i have (i think 4) haste enablers. It just isnt enough to justify running the dragon.
Glass is overcosted even as a mana rock and a draw engine at the same time.
Skarrgan Hellkite is a standard finisher with little to no application for EDH.
Smothering Tithe might be the closest thing to a possible inclusion to me from this set.

I think it is passable. The can't be countered clause and the haste are the best parts. I think you will only be putting dragons into play after you have declared attacks, like with The Ur-Dragon's Attack trigger.
I would rank Dragonlord Kolaghan far above Urabrask. Her dragon typing allows her to function as a dragon beater, dragon support, and a recipient of dragon support (dragon discounters, Patriarch's Bidding, triggering Lathliss, Dragon Queen etc.) all at once. Urabrask is actually kinda garbage in the Ur-Dragon. Its additional upside of hindering your opponents a little is not worth being an otherwise non-synergistic fatty in an already top-heavy deck.
Though I do need to try to see if I can slot in Rhythm of the Wild to try it. If there's one thing that's a pain in the butt about 5 color decks, it's that the 99 cards issue really haunts you when you can run basically anything you want...

Dragon breath, not bad, maybe i will run it if i can find a slot.
I get that issue with the 99. Plus the land base for 5 color. I just like having all 10 duals, shocks and fetches. Makes the deck very constant. Mana is no issue.
Five-mana rocks need to offer at least two mana (Gilded Lotus is good in some mana-heavy decks, like this one.), or make it "It's also a rock." But you won't be casting as many multicolored spells as you think.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

yea, most of the deck is mono color. (18 muti color spells including my general) Not of enough of the deck supports a 5 cost mana rock that might also draw a card. There are better rocks that cost less to put out. they may not draw me a card, but its the mana i need. (I already have a lot of draw power in the deck, like the point as I will NOT play a land in hand in hopes that i will draw into reliquary tower and thus keep my hand)
Gilded lotus however produces 3 mana, do it stays.
My general principal for my build is to be very careful about running any sort of ramp that costs more than 3 mana and even then the vast majority should cost 2 at most. A good chunk of the deck is going to be 6+ drops so you kinda need to keep the curve for the rest of the deck as low as you can. The only exception I keep in my deck is Oracle of Mul Daya because she forms some good engines with my Crucible of Worlds, fetches, and Haven of the Spirit Dragon package.

yea i get it. I may switch out gilded for crypt But crypt does not produxe colors. Plus half my games can get dragons down to only coating colors.
It could be another cmc reducer, it's affected by The Ur-Dragon effect (and with Urza's Incubator it costs just 4) and it gives a +1/+1 to other dragons.
And if there's Fist of Suns in play, that means free dragons...

you just necroed a two year old thread.
That said, yes morophon is going in my deck. No he is not going in with first or jodah. Morophon but I am not forcing him j to my deck if I cannot find a spot.he is going in Slivers 100%
The thread is actually 2 years old, but the last post has been added less than 4 month ago. I admit that we're not talking about yesterday or the last week, that's true.
I'm sorry if this is not the good thread to debate about a generic The Ur-Dragon deck, but I didn't find any primer for that commander. I'd be glad to post my doubts into the correct thread, so please point me at the right one.
Fist of Suns was definitely one of the first cuts I made in the precon because it was absolutely pointless. 5 mana is not a discount in a deck of creatures that are largely going to be 5-4 mana anyways. At least though it now has a cute interaction with Morophon. Now give us an actual dragon in Modern Horizons already and I mean one that's actually even remotely good.

yea. 3RG is far easier to cast than WUBRG
It was cut from mine early on as well.
i will be putting Fist into my morophon (Eldrazi) deck. Along with jodah.

A dragon has arrived... but I don't think he's good enough to find a spot: Ore-Scale Guardian.
not really. He doesn't do anything fun. Sure he may cost only RR (as I use fetch lands) but I do not want to bank on that. It is already going to be tough to find a spot for morophon.
Yeah Modern Horizons literally has nothing for the Ur-Dragon to me at this point. Such a largely dull set so far. But at the very least it adds Yawgmoth to my Jodah 5 color Bishonen tribal project. I still can't believe I can actually say Yawgmoth is a bishonen...

I do not think many sets in teh foreseeable future will hav seomething for my dragon deck. Grante di did not think war of teh spark would and then BAM Spark double, Bam Sarkhan, the masterless
so i am at the point now where i have to figure out of Morophon is worth playing and what card to remove (Gonna proxy him for a while and switch him between cards to see if he does what needs to be done. Is the lack of casting cost worth running?
I'll probably try it out but I feel its probably put to better use in other tribal decks. It's still the least disappointing thing about this set to me.
Though the main source of my irritation is actually more along the lines of "Really?! You bring back snow and give me absolutely no flippin' new toys for my skred red?!" than it is for EDH.

I would say the top haste enablers for this deck are, from best to worst:
- Dragon Tempest
- Temur Ascendancy
- Rhythm of the Wild
- Urabrask the Hidden
-Dragonlord Kolaghan
- Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund
- Ogre Battledriver
- Garna, The Bloodflame
-Samut, Voice of Dissent

13.BR Creatureless Panharmonicon 14.BR Pingers and Eldrazi 15.URG Untapped Cascading
16.Reyhan, last of the Abzan's WUBG +1/+1 Counter Craziness 17.WUBRG Dragons aka Why did I make this?
Building: The Gitrog Monster lands, Glissa the Traitor stax, Muldrotha, the Gravetide Planeswalker Combo, Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix + Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa Clues, and Tribal Scarecrow Planeswalkers

Dragon Tempest

Temur Ascendancy
Dragonlord Kolaghan
Rhythm of the Wild
