Bend or Break is pretty nice for the same reason Do or Die is, though it is symmetrical. The good news is, unless your board is absolutely *****ty at threat assessment, it becomes fairly simple. It usually comes down to two situations, either "half of a player's lands versus the other half" or "practically all of a player's lands versus a smaller pile including Cradle/Nykthos/Coffers/Sanctum/Ruins/etc."

More a boardswipe than a real wrath but Mizzium mortars is a nice one: 4 dmg to 1 creature with 2CMC or 4 dmg to opponents' creatures with a 6 "CMC" that's actually as much dmg/cost ratio as Starstorm or Slice and Dice (which is also a nice one)

Arcbond can be pretty versatile. It is cheap to cast and is "instant" speed. It also gets around lots of pro-red problems, and generally scales with the largest creature on the field.

Praetor's Grasp can always be a Wrath. ^^

I'll also echo that Arcbond is fairly flexible, but it's unreliable and niche. I have it in Tajic as a wrath that's tutorable from Sunforger. It combos with Deathtouch, Lifelink, and Infect. The biggest problem with it is that using it in a board wipe role is inconsistent since it requires a lot of set up or favorable blocks and can be negated with trample. Additionally, you'll end up taking a lot of damage in the process of board wiping. This is why I feel it's in the category of cards you'd like to be able to tutor with Sunforger, but never actually want to draw: basically on the fringe of playable.

I felt like I had a pretty good setup for Arcbond in Tajic, better than most decks, and it still didn't seem to perform very well. I still have it in because it's fun to try to set up and it can 'go infinite' with Boros Charm and Boros Reckoner.


In a similar vein, I feel like Master Warcraft is far more reliable in the situations where you'd want a board wipe off of Sunforger. It doesn't actually clear the board, but you can suicide armies together, fog a Craterhoof Behemoth, or just use one army to kill another player. It has the boardwipe power of making hexproof creatures vulnerable in a much more reliable way than Arcbond, so I'd count it here, but it requires a creature-heavy meta to shine, which Arcbond requires too, I suppose. This goes even moreso than traditional board wipes since they're using creatures to kill creatures.


I think I'd count Mob Rule in this department if your deck plans to reliably have a sac outlet by the time it wants to cast it. With a sac outlet, it's a pretty good approximation of a board wipe at a reasonable cost that can double as a game-ender if the situation arises. Even as a board wipe, you still have the option of attacking first.


I kind of want to put Bloodfire Colossus on this list as a board wipe you can totally reanimate easily. It doesn't hit everything but most of the creature-based boardwipes don't work unless you cast them. This has the problem where you never want to draw it, but I'm sure there's some brew out there that can use it repeatedly without actually casting it.


In the same vein as earlier cards, Reins of Power is pretty decent when an opponent has a board state you'd want to wrath. It does require a sac outlet that isn't a creature if you want to do more than fog/redirect and it is of inconsistent power on boards that are small but have threats that must be killed. However in blue, the cost of niche cards should be a bit smaller since you should tend to be drawing more cards overall.


Meta-depending, Chancellor of the Spires, Diluvian Primordial, and Mindclaw Shaman are also potentially flexible in the board wipe department while having other utility when not needed as such.

Pestilence (and Pyrohemia) is an answer and a threat. With Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Akroma's Memorial, Vigor, or (in sliver tribal) Lymph Sliver, it doesn't hurt your creatures.

I am surprised. Engulfing slagwurm gets no love? Giving this thing the lure ability just ruins people. I am fast becoming fond of kindle the carnage. It isn't a terrible wrath when you want a zero hand size anyway.

Ezuri's Predation is a very underrated and underplayed card. Can line up to be a complete blowout, and is often a win condition on its own.
