My biddy and i wantvti start gling to a local edh league thatbhas a 5 buck entry. I would be a for fun play but when i start spending money to llay my own mentality goes from casual to cutthroat. Especially when playing for prizes.
Thing is i do not have a lot of money to spare. So i am wondering if anyone can suggest a cheap to make ($$$ wise) but also very competative.
how much is a little money? like a number would be very helpful
if worst comes to worst buy a precon and look for upgrades that are within your budget.

about 50 bucks. i mean i have a lot of cards so I may be able to build something without having to even spend that much but still.
Both Selvalas are combo engines that draw cards and make infinite mana. They are complicated decks, but can win turn 3 or 4 pretty easily. The combo pieces aren't played in many decks so should be affordable.
I think you could build a very competitive Edric, Spymaster of Trest or Selvala, Heart of the Wild on a budget. The payoff cards are cards that you can find in many collections, like Craterhoof Behemoth, are expensive, but given that you have a decent-sized collection already, you probably already own them.
If I had to build the most competitive deck I could, for the least money possible, I would probably go for Mono blue, very likely Azami, Lady of Scrolls. Counterspells and Wizards.
yea i may end up rebuilding azami for the competative play. I mean i played azami. The only downside is that i am running 2 dimir decks already. (Vela and scarab god) so my blue is already spread pretty thin.
You should look at the Youtube Channel "Budget MTG Decks", they have some pretty competitive budget decks. I currently use the Sigarda deck with a few minor tweaks and I do alright.
You would be shocked at how many times my Kami of the Crescent Moon deck that focuses on just stealing people's stuff, a few big bounce cards, and a lot of clone effects can do to a POD of 3-4. I've wrecked tables of 6-7 just by stealing and cloning the right cards and using things like Jace's Archivist over and over and over again.
Stealing just the right defensive fatties, only to let the others build up a crazy ass Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas or plays Atarka, World Render and another Dragon and I take them both late game for 8-10 mana in one turn and completely upend the game plan for people is pleasing.
Mono Blue, Steal, clone, counter decks are probably the best bang for your buck. Mono green may be close though. Green has been handed so many over the top cards in recent years that what used to be staples have been replaced and thus fell in price but that doesn't stop their effectiveness.
