Hey! I trying to build a competitive edh deck for my playgroup. We play 1v1 and multiplayer but always use the multiplayer rules and ban list.
I'm currently playing a Vorel of the Hull Clade deck with Prime Speaker Zegana as an alternative general.
Both of them are not in the top tiers and I would like to build something stronger, faster and more reliable against niche interactions of other decks. Also as close as possible to a top tier general.
I'm interested in either the Sultai and Bant Colors for my general and came up with a short list of my top picks. Any opinion or advice on which direction I should take will be much appreciated.
-Reyhan, Last of the Abzan / Thrasios, Triton Hero
-Derevi, Empyrial Tactician
-Rafiq of the Many
-Thrasios, Triton Hero / Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker
Derevi is a good deck if you are trying to lock all your opponents out of the game. But, you will be the most hated at the table.
Thrasios is basically a combo general. With infinite mana, you draw the deck. If you are playing tier 1, then this is how you ought to build a Thrasios deck.
That being said, the advantage of Thrasios is being able to play 4 colours, usually with Tymna the weaver. If you want to play 3 colours, Tasigur, the Golden Fang is similar (draws deck with infinite mana).
Rafiq is not tier 1, in my opinion. The biggest limitation is that you can't kill everyone at the same time.
My opinions are based on what I have seen. Reyhan is an amazing general, can can be crazy powerful, but is not fast enough to beat tier 1 decks.
And I honestly see no reason to play Ishai over Tymna. Even if you play 0 black spells, and only have a single command tower for black mana, Tymna seems better than Ishai for Tier 1.
Funny to be bashing Reyhan and Ishai, they co-general one of my newest decks, which I really enjoy. Still, I know their limitations!
Depends on the kind of deck you want to be playing. The best version of Derevi is very stax and lockdown heavy. I don't know how to advise on Thrasios/x, because all the versions I've seen are 4-color storm/doomsday/labman type decks, which you could probably do just fine in three-color but it seems like a deliberate handicap.

I know there's a quite strong Rashmi, Eternities Crafter out there somewhere, that focuses on Paradox Engine and/or the Isochron Scepter/Dramatic Reversal combo, if you want to stay U/G only.
