But on a more general scale, I'll echo that I'd rather there be a fair amount of open-ended 'choose a creature type' cards, or that the decks at least are of the 'race + class' variety.
Oh well, reserving judgment 'til we hear what they be about.

I doubt we will get a slivers or any other 5-color deck, since the decks of a commander release are meant to be somewhat balanced when played against each other. It worked with last year's product because all 4-color manabases were equally bad, but matching it against 3, 2 or even mono-colored decks won't do it.
Hopefully they'll refrain from just doing the most boring thing in R goblins, G elves and B or UB zombies and go a at least slightly more novel route.
Since they already break their usual symmetry by not going for full color equality, decks could also be more distinctive from each other this time - possibly something in the lines of
established tribe, adding color - i.e. WUB zombies are not the most innovative thing, but with white stuff from Amonkhet this could be welcome.
expanding an almost viable popular tribe - if they are able and willing to do DFCs in a commander product, werewolves would be happy to get some support and a legend that has actual synergy with the rest of his tribe (GR obviously)
multi-tribe support - something like WBR soldier/warrior/berserker
tribal support for so far non-synergistic existing creature type - I'm thinking UG mutants, but mostly because this would fit color balance with my other examples best
On the other hand they could just do three decks that are almost exclusiveley reprints and put the new cards into rigger tribal...
1# they are not going to do goblin, zombie, those are too obvious in my opinion
2# 1 or more are going to be multi tribal support like Kaalia of the Vast or each of the 12 new commanders will support a particular tribe
3# one to all the decks will be a tribal commander(s) we wanted for a long time like werewolf, esper merfolk ,sultan snake, 5 color angel or zombie, or maybe a theme of one particular one we wanted for a while.
4# by popular tribes they could be a popular tribal theme that doesn't have a heavy commander yet. For example we are getting a new minataur tribal commander in amonkhet and minataur is a tribal wanted.
All of the Commander decks they have put out have not had one single strategy but 2 or 3 different ways you can take your deck with the different commanders. What if these tribes come with 2 or 3 different races that work well together instead of one big one.
+ Zombie/Elf
+ Wolf/werewolf
+ merfolk/sea creatures
+ Humans and lots of other sub types or angels
+ Clerics/demons
+ Werid/Wizards
There are TONS of tribal decks that are barely playable in COMMANDER that could profit from this.
(Thallids and Monks come to mind among dozens others)
But the Wizards blurb says "most popular tribal decks", so we'll get the same old, same old...
The article says "most popular, and interesting, tribes." I would infer that to mean more than just your standard elves and goblins.
The issue with any 5C tribal would be the manabase..so I think it's unlikely to happen, but if it did I would totally buy it.
I mean, they did Premium Deck Series: Slivers as a 5C deck. Sure, it was 60-card and contained 2x Gemhide Sliver plus 1x Homing Sliver, but it's not like they're strangers to 5C mana bases.
It says fan favorite tribes, so I expect there to be something along the lines of
UB ninjas. They got a deck in planechase, and they are a beloved tribe WUBRG slivers. I could see them running naya, but slivers are a very popular tribe that have not done much since an awkward magic 2015 appearance. WGR angels. Not much else to say. l legendary myr. They finally do a full on colorless deck. Lots of classic artifacts for ramp like thran dynamo.
and maybe all our guessing is irrelevant as wizards could just do the following:
4 decks for their new 1vs1 edh variant at 30 life.
no need for multiplayer design and the package includes the their 1vs1 rules on a paper.
Why would they do that when they already have an established product line with a loyal fan base? Maybe they will gear some new commanders / inclusions towards 1v1 relevance. That would be cool

Playing with proxied cards at sanctioned events is good, actually.

Probably
As for colorless even though Myr has atvantage on favorite and wanted.
you just hope eldrazis doesn't get that spot instead. (I'm kidding I sure new Eldrazi Titans is not happening yet not for several months.)
As long as these aren't mono-color, I'm so in. Also, even though I play Yisan, I really don't want one to be elves. Elves are good enough already.
Even "obvious" tribes, like Zombies or Goblins, could use some support though. I would love a Jund Goblin commander, or an Esper Zombie commander.
Whatever other tribes they choose, I hope they're not mono-color.
Warrior or Human could also be interesting.
I'm not immediately enthousiastic about the whole tribal angle, though it will heavily depend on the tribes used and how open ended the cards will be.
If they follow the pattern with previous Commander products that the new commons/uncommons are shared between decks, I think it is reasonable to hope for some broadly applicable cards.
The article says "most popular, and interesting, tribes." I would infer that to mean more than just your standard elves and goblins.
And that is why you're an "optimist".
I'm an optimist too and even I'm pretty sure one will be elves. It'd be nice if it was something else, but I'm just gonna assume elves until they make an official announcement and potentially pleasantly surprise me.
That being said, I would be very happy if they printed an elf tribal commander in Abzan colors, to support all past elf tribal themes. We've had them in G/W and G/B, but have no way of combining them without using something off-tribe like Anafenza.
I would hope that they would stay away from Elves given the 2015 precon. Ideally I would really like to see some of the smaller tribes get some love to make them more viable. Having said this im expecting Vampires, goblins, soldiers and probably U/B zombies. Weird that they only did 4 this year though.

Modern: RG Titanshift. A deck made of cards too stupid for EDH.
Retired: Lots. More than I feel you should suffer through or I should type out.
I think it may not be limited to race, there would probably be CLASS themes like soldiers, wizards, that way allows a wider, more variant deck style and colors in each.
I'm actually sort of not expecting Elves and Slivers because of the Freyalise and Premium Decks, but who knows what WotC thinks of aged products.
Not expecting Snake Tribal since we got Kaseto, maybe they'll rub salt on the wounds with Naga Tribal...
Maybe they'll do a UR Golem Tribal... that functions as the Artifact Commander the color identity has wanted for so long...
