This is releasing at the end of August? I wonder what made Wizards change their typical release schedule. That aside, meh. Tribal decks. Really diminishes a lot of my hopes for sweet new cards seeing as a good chunk of them will obviously be designed to support their deck's given tribe. Definitely good news for tribal players though.

My only hope is they don't give additional support to tribes that don't really need it. Zombies, Elves, Goblins. You see these decks already.
Saw a likely thing somewhere else, but it seems likely these will be multi-tribal decks using Race/Class. Something like Goblins and Warriors. Merfolk and Wizards. Humans and Clerics. That way you have cards that fit into each side and some that do both. Let's them support and print support for lots of new tribes instead of just 4.
Im not a big fan of the strategy that a tribal deck typically utilizes: overextending on the battlefield in an attempt to reach a critical mass of creature that tend to be subpar and/or underpowered weenies just so you can stay on theme. Again, not saying this is always the case with tribal decks, but I have seen many follow this pattern. It doesnt help that my meta is bit more competitive than the normal power level of a tribal deck, so I get discouraged when I think about wanting to build a tribal deck.
As for tribes I would like to see, I would like to see a Mardu colored Angel so I could build a deck with all of my favorite Boros and Orzhov angels. I would also like to see beefier Merfolk so that they could hold their own against the staple creatures of the format. And I would be down for an Orzhov zombie deck so long as the commanders didnt revolve around sacrificing.
Watch it be something like Vampires, Druids, Wizards, Clerics, or Humans. You know, outside the box but pushed up right against it.
WUB Zombies seems very likely. It would encourage players to buy and play with cards from Amonkhet. Additionally with all the new white zombies, it will create a way for players to utilize those cards along with other zombies in one deck.
I think it's a great thing that they are finally not creating decks based around the color wheel cycles. In the format, Red and White are severely weakened colors so the decks that are mono white, mono red, or red and white tend to be much less strong than other decks.
There are TONS of tribal decks that are barely playable in COMMANDER that could profit from this.
(Thallids and Monks come to mind among dozens others)
But the Wizards blurb says "most popular tribal decks", so we'll get the same old, same old...
I predict that there will be a number of cards similar to what we saw in Lorwyn that are anything tribal, meaning they work by letting you choose the creature type they effect, like Cavern of Souls. In the same vein, cards that work based on types you control on the field, like Coat of Arms or Call of the Kindred. These would allow them to not just completely pigeon hole the entire product line based on the tribes of the 4 decks (I agree that it will probably be a race and a class focused on per deck) by hitting tribes that are not featured. Sometimes these cards can even be good in decks with only a light tribal theme, like how Cavern is sometimes there solely to make the commander uncounterable.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!

The article says "most popular, and interesting, tribes." I would infer that to mean more than just your standard elves and goblins.

I led #MTGC17 design! 4 tribal decks. I can’t say much, but there’s at least 1 tribe you won’t expect…
Let the rampant speculation begin!
I really hope there will be a 5 color deck. I would like Dragons, but maybe it will be Atogs or Slivers or Elementals.
The only tribe I do not expect is Elves, simply because it would overlap so much with the Freyalise deck.
I'm not a fan of tribal decks really. They always seem to be about beatdown, which is not a preferred strategy for me. If the commanders are interesting, maybe it will be worthwhile.

Yep elfs, zombies, goblins is to obvious.
But definately likely atleast one of them will be one of these decks
One could be angels, another could be humans, or slivers.

They're probably going to design the decks in a non-typical tribal way since they're primarily multiplayer-focused decks. I think it would be pretty cool to have a lot of utility effects tied into creatures or tribal cards - sort of like reclamation sage for noncreature removal or a tribal variation of momentous fall in an elf deck for example.
Lets see. They want this to sell to current players and new ones alike. The decks have to be balanced, sorry Slivers but no. What would you buy?
#1 pick is Zombies, I mean there is so so many different abilities in different colours for them. Zombies got every colour in the wheel, though primarily black. I think more people would buy a Zombie deck than a Vampire or Demon deck. (Demon would be my fav) Could be black + Blue/White
#2 Dragons, even over goblins - are big and slow and could use all the help they can get. Also, can go Red + any number of colours. Dragons are Timmys commander tribe, popular and fun. Red + green/blue.
#3 Angels. There is a reason we got 1 FTV Dragons and the other Angels. This would be commander style tribe #2. We like our Angels, new and old. White + ?? Bant? Cant be W/R
#4 Im going on Beasts or Elementals, not Elves. Green needs a voice here, Elves are done to the moon, there is a ton of design room for either these tribes. This is a tough one...they already did Elves and are re-releasing that deck with Commander Anthology. Green + Red/Blue
I'm not immediately enthousiastic about the whole tribal angle, though it will heavily depend on the tribes used and how open ended the cards will be. If there are a lot of " Choose a creature type this applies to" cards then I'll probably pick a few up. Hell, if the tribes are interesting it might be a good way to start of a few tribal decks that don't have to be tier 1. However, I won't be buying into the same tribes we've seen over and over again: no elves, zombies, goblin, vampires, or humans for me.
In short, I will reserve judgement on these until I see it, but i'm not preordering these.

I like that idea.. What 4 tribes now ??? Rats? Birds? Dragons? Ouphes??
Trap your friends in an endless game with this 23-card combo!
30 relentless rats and some other stuff lol and Thrumming Stone
Probably won't be Zombies because that is Standard right now.
Slivers don't need more support, they got plenty of them already.

R Norin the Wary: I've Got a Bad Feeling About This
UG Thrasios & Kydele: Knowledge is Power
RG Borborygmos Enraged: The Breaking of the World
BG The Gitrog Monster: All Glory to the Hypnotoad
WUR Zedruu the Greathearted: Endless Possibilities, One Outcome
WBG Karador, Ghost Chieftain: What's Dead May Never Die
Turn your junk into something great with PucaTrade!
I wonder if this means they designed five decks and realized one was just going to be the next Wade into Battle, then decided to just not release it.

WUBRG Angels (Maelstrom Archangel)
UBR Demons (Prince of Thralls) - Other than Sol'kanar, who isn't tribal themed.
WUG Merfolk (Sygg, River Guide + Prime Speaker Zegana) or Elves (Edric, Spymaster of Trest + Rhys the Redeemed)
WB Zombies (Wayward Servant) - Other than Daxos, who also isn't tribal themed.
As for tribes I would like to see, I would like to see a Mardu colored Angel so I could build a deck with all of my favorite Boros and Orzhov angels. The Mimeoplasm || Karador, Ghost Chieftain
Prossh, Skyraider of Kher || Vial Smasher/Tymna Group Slug
Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief || Talrand, Sky Summoner
Yidris - Unblockable Saboteurs || Kiki-Jiki, ETB breaker
Kess, Dissident Mage
Kaalia of the Vast, though not an angel herself, heavily supports mardu angel tribal. There is also Tariel, Reckoner of Souls.
Each Tribal Deck should come with a Walker to support it like one of the Ajani that makes Cat tokens for a Cat Tribal deck.
I think it's a great thing that they are finally not creating decks based around the color wheel cycles. In the format, Red and White are severely weakened colors so the decks that are mono white, mono red, or red and white tend to be much less strong than other decks.

Heck maybe even a new Eldrazi. Just kidding.

Just my predictions.
And they were right - the 4-color mana bases are garbage and a giant hassle to deal with.
