My family plays MTG together, almost exclusively Commander. The kids love it (daughter 10, son 8). I love it, I have been playing since 1994, with a departure for many years for medical school and then residency/family. Now we are back, and we all play.
My wife is not as addicted as the rest of us are. She had a few decks that I thought were fun, but she never really liked them. So I asked her what she likes. She says Big Green Stompy is really her thing. She is also a saver, and runs most of our finances. So I made her an Omnath, Locus of Mana deck with huge ramp and stompy creatures. She can save up her mana, spend it on really fun things, and beat face on her husband and kids. Perfect.
Which brings us to Granny's Payback! I can't wait to see her play it! I won't say how old she is, but it really doesn't matter. A mother of two, on average, will clean up with that card! I know, not totally legal, but it is amazingly fun. We are using it anyway.
Thoughts? Would you let your mom play with this card, if it made her more likely to play?
I'm personally of the opinion that most Uncards are fair game, especially those that don't require dexterity or voicework.
Granny's Payback is hilarious and probably not broken due being an 8 mana sorcery with no other effect. I'm 25 and I wouldn't even play it in my Wort, the Raidmother deck whose token-copying is so easily available it doesn't matter at all - meaning, I wouldn't play it even if I were 50. At least not for the power level. For style points? Always!
Oh it's a cool card. It just isn't impactful for a format where the average creature is 5/5 or people are combo killing. Maybe if it were 2 or 3 times your age. Of course I still don't understand the card. A grandma killing everyone makes no sense for lifegain.
