I want to build a deck that focuses on Squirrel tribal. There are 14 cards that deal with squirrels with 2 being form the Un-sets (and fairly bad)
Thus I want to give this a shot. i find it could be fun (And I made moonfolk tribal in the past... it can be done)
I am not sure if I should go Mono-green or add in another color for support nor the general i should be looking at. I do however plan on running some lords but it is difficult to pick on for squirrels (though Adaptive Automaton as well as Metallic Mimic will be included.
So looking for help here. It is going to be a challenge but help is greatly appreciated.
What's the competitive level of this deck? I think the best route for a theme deck is a heavy forest theme. Ever use Lost in the Woods? You would here if it's just a theme.
More competitive...I'd just use all the green control cards and win with overrunning squirrels.combo.
EDIT: White supports tokens and removal, blue lets you clone your squirrel-creators, and red pumps/hastes them. I'd only add black if you expand into the Swarmyard tribes.

I think i may add white but that woul probably be the extent of expansion (Simply due to the token pumps)
It is not meant to be competitive. While I don't want this to be a deck that leaves me in the dust, i would like to have one that makes people laugh, but also hows that I am not one to jut be outright ignored when I start putting a lot of 10/10s into play due to the pumps. (then cast overrun, Ult with Garruk or Overwhelming stampede. (Could also use Craterhoof or Pathbreaker Ibex.)
In order to get White and Green available, I am looking at Tolsimir Wolfblood. Grants a pump and allows me access to white.
A long while back, I designed a dragon themed deck. Just like you, I found that there weren't really enough cards that mentioned dragons explicitly, so I was having a tough time figuring out how to build it. My solution was to find other things that most of my dragons had in common (flying, multicolored, power 4+), and to look for cards that worked well with those traits. For example, although Gravitational Shift has nothing to do with dragons, since almost all dragons have flying, it was on theme. I think you should take a similar approach with squirrels.
I was looking at a lot of things that grant boosts
as for Dragons, there are enough to build a dragon deck. Scion of the ur-dragon is a deck that I have seen on multiple occasions just wreak face. Along with some less competitive dragon tribal decks like Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund so you were just not looking hard enough (164 creatures that are Dragon type)
Step 1: Enchant your forest with a Squirrel Nest.
Step 2: Cast Earthcraft.
Step 3: Tap your forest with the nest to make a 1/1 squirrel.
Step 4: Tap your squirrel in order to untap your forest.
Step 5: Rinse and repeat steps 3-4 to your hearts content.
EDIT: Consider adding Bow of Nylea and Vigor as they make your squirrels even better.
Definitely go white, and remember changelings are squirrels. Mirror Entity is a must, and turns your non squirrels into squirrels!

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
I don't think you need to splash white, but you certainly can.
Hmm, good point. Mono color may be easie rto work with but then teh question remains. Who do I use as a general. While Kaysa and Kahmal are both legends and thus valid, they cost 5 and 6 to put out. Kind of expensive IMO.
Rhys the Redeemed. Although he is you can also just play him as due to the hybrid mana. Which would help your squirrels as a good amount of them come in token form.

You have a good point, though at the same time, Qanglaagix did make a good suggestion giving me access to the white and also being able to double my tokens when i have the mana for it.
I'm going to suggest BG, because I'm an old man who remembers The Rock and the millions (and millions) of The Rock's fans. Then you have some very good options:
You tap to give your hermit persist and choose not to pay its echo cost. The hermit revives and gets a -1/-1 counter and becomes a 0/0, but the anthem makes him a 1/1. Because he enters play, you get four more squirrels.

Well that does work, But i was looking more for a way to sac and recast multiple times/turn The best i can come up with is Ashnod's Altar and Nim Deathmantle. (An oldie but a goodie) But was hoping for more.

Consider Phyrexian Altar instead. Colored mana is more helpful than colorless mana unless all your spells take colorless.

phyrexian only gives 1 mana, cant use it in combination with deathmantle to go infinite. (Ashnod may give colorless but it gives 2.)

pyrexian ony gies 1 mana, cand use it in combinatio with deatmantle to go infinite.
Sacrifice Deranged Hermit + 3 Squirrel tokens to a Phyrexian Altar, you are left with one squirrel. Doing so nets you a squirrel each time which results in infinite squirrels. Sacrifice a fraction of the infinite army and you get infinite mana. This mana is colored. This can be used on non-generic and non-colorless costs.

Without the ability to draw, it is not really worth it. I can still toss it in as I own one but still when your hand is empty, 100 man or 1 mana, you can't use it on anyhing.
I had actually slapped together a squirrel list for a friend a while back and due to some land-sacrificing abilities like Squirrel Wrangler, the commander ended up being Titania, Protector of Argoth. So kindof a bad Titania deck with squirrels. A number of things had more synergy with the landfall/land-sac angles than with the squirrels (e.g. Copper-Leaf Angel and Terravore). Just a commander to consider.

Thats the beauty of adding B. Nothing to stop you from drawing cards like in W. Greed and Erebos, God of the Dead already give you an advantage there, and then if you have infinite mana its pretty easy to draw into a Diabolic Revelation and find your wincon. Damnable Pact burns out a player, there's Bitter Ordeal, or with Grave Pact you've wiped out all the other creatures on the board. At that point you can drop a Lightning Greaves and your Commander if you haven't and wipe out another player, or find your Concordant Crossroads. Unless you're also adding U then B is just about the best way for you to have cards in hand.
All good ideas, but now I am thinking maybe i should aim for a more reliable tribe. one that can synergize with itself better than squirrels can.

To be fair, I only started playing EDH in 2009 (the end and conflux came out earlier that year) Scion came out in time shift so much earlier than 2009. In reality, both were availble to use as a general. I mean sure Khans may have been the mother load of dragons but they did exist before that.

Aside from Squirrel Mob, all squirrels are green token creatures. Cards like Doubling Season, Primal Vigor, and Parallel Lives all work well with tokens, as does Muraganda Petroglyphs. Bellowing Tanglewurm can make your squirrels fearsome, and Roughshod Mentor can give them all trample. Look for things that synergize with what your squirrels are, even if the cards themselves don't explicitly mention squirrels.
