Well I'm gonna start playing with some friends at work. They all play commander decks, I'm looking for a good commander deck to start off with, n I'd like to also pair it with a booster box (cause I just love to open packs (weather it's real or digital, but love the idea of hang hard copies).... the magic 2015 app has really helped me learn the basic of the game, it's actually fueled the fire, to go ahead and start building.
My main goal I'd to have a good starting commander deck, buy a supportive booster box (if that's even possible ) while keeping the price around 150-200. I've been told to just buy singles, which is probably the way I should go...but I have no idea what I'm looking for, and I won't spend countless hrs trying to figure it out.
I like to learn on the fly, so spending a Lil money is OK for me,, then I can start building a better deck or 3.....if I'm able to get a 2nd commander deck in with that price point id love to get that also...
Easy mode, grab one of the 2015 precon commander decks. They are really in of themselves but also a great starting point if you want to tear them up to make new decks.
If you want to build your own then we need to know what colours/playstyle you like and what kind of decks your friends play. It will probably go down badly if you turn up to their super relaxed "cobble it together" games with a reliable turn 3/4 combo deck.
Go through the primer list on this site to see what you like/ what interests you and go from there. Alternatively go on EDHreq and press random until you find something interesting.

EDH BRGKresh the BloodbraidedBRG, A box of lands and ideas.
Modern: RG Titanshift. A deck made of cards too stupid for EDH.
Retired: Lots. More than I feel you should suffer through or I should type out.
Yea, as already noted above, cracking a box won't serve you well...unless it's a box of Eternal Masters/Modern Masters 1 or 2. However, that would probably push the price above what you're willing to go for. The alternative is a box of Conspiracy 1 or 2. They might be a bit harder to find, but they have fun goodies across the board. If you choose to do so, it might be a smarter idea to pick the box first, crack open the box and then pick a precon based on what you cracked. Suppose you open up a box of Conspiracy: Take the Crown and get, say, Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, then the recommendation for which deck to pick up differs greatly from when you'd crack Queen Marchesa.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
If you're new to the game and to Commander, I would highly recommend picking up any of the Commander preconstructed decks. They're playable straight out of the box and unlike most preconstructed decks, the Commander decks are well worth the money; they're not full of chaff. With preconstructed decks, you won't have to worry about the nuances of deckbuilding either, and you will be able to jump straight into the format. They're perfect starting points. Commander 2016 launched recently and you may still be able to find some at your local game store.
Regarding booster boxes, if you enjoy ripping packs open that's fine and dandy, but do not expect to open any useful Commander cards out of a booster pack whatsoever. Although there are always a slew of playable Commander cards in each set, the vast majority, and I mean VAST majority, 95+% of those cards are designed for Standard and for Limited, not Commander. If there's a specific card you're interested in getting for your Commander deck, do not buy booster packs hoping to get lucky. It won't turn out well for you, especially since many powerful and popular Commander cards are dirt cheap and can be bought for almost nothing.

WUBRGMr. Bones' Wild RideGRBUW Trap your friends in an endless game with this 23-card combo!
I think the absolute biggest thing about starting off in Commander, is actually figuring out which commander you want to play first.
https://edhrec.com/
is the site that I personally use whenever I'm deckbuilding. It shows you all of the possible commanders you could play in any color, and staples among those colors. It will also show you a great list of typical cards you could expect to see or want to run yourself in any given commander's arsenal (See what I did there? :P).
So for example, my personal Commander of choice is Captain Sisay, because I love combo/midrange strategies. Captain Sisay is great for this because she's in Selesnya colors, which are notorious for having bulky, great-in-combat creatures for the midrange aspect, and also because she can tutor for legendary cards, making her have extremely powerful applications for assembling combos together. So what I'd do here, is use EDHREC>Click 2-Color>Selesnya>Find Captain Sisay among her other Green White counterparts, and see what is popular to use with her as a general consensus among other like minded players.
It's a very useful tool, and like I said; I think choosing your Commander is the most importan aspect about starting into this format, and just when building a new deck in general. Your choice of commander will say a lot about you, and will let us all know just what sort of style you're likely to enjoy and in turn, helps us give you better suggestions.
Cracking a box is not a good way to get into a singleton format. You will end up with duplicates of a lot of cards, and there are not really that many commander-worthy cards in EDH.
I would suggest asking your friends if you can borrow an extra deck from them. By playing some Commander decks, you will get a better idea for what you want to play and the power-level to aim for.
I would then suggest getting a Pre-Constructed decks. I think the Commander 2015 decks are great starting points. The commander 2016 decks are excellent, but they are 4 colors and 4-color decks require you to spend money to improve the mana. The 2-color decks are less demanding.
Once you have a pre-con, the best option is buying singles of what you need.
Well I've been doing some research, thinking of using savala, heart of the wild or Animar,Soul of Elements asy commander, with a eldarzi tribe(bout $20-25if I'm able to find him).....still haven't figured out which premade commander set I should buy. N I'm sure I'll need some fliers or card with reach (I think) ...once agon I know it's better to bit singles...........
But I'm gonna buy a booster box or 2 (gonna go over the initial $ I wanted haha)
Was considering looking at battle for zendikar and any other booster box that'll get me some more eldrazi........any suggestions. ...once again I realize it's not that smartest choice. ..I just want to have a Lil fun ...and it'll get me a nice Lil collection to start with, so I can trade among my coworkers. ...thx agon for everyones comments. They have really helped
If you go with Selvala, Heart of the Wild, then the Freyalise deck from the Commander 2014 sets is your best bet. It comes with a nice selection of Green cards ready to use and should give you a solid base. As for a box to buy - you might want to end up going for Eldritch Moon. Green had a few interesting cards there as well as some nice Eldrazi support and there's a shot at Emrakul in there - not that she's that expensive now, but hey.

Conspiracy 1 and 2 have the best mutiplayer cards/edh cards printed in there sets. Foils are worth wayy to much but can get alot of good cards to build decks with. Unless you are willing to shell out $$$ for Eternal Masters these would be my picks to purchase if a box to open is what your looking for. You can also draft the box and play multiplayer if thats your thing.
Selvala is incredible. She's the closest thing we have to Rofellos (who is banned by the way), and she goes infinite with a number of cards, like Umbral Mantle and Staff of Domination with just a few lands out and a bit of buffing (or just another big creature).
Seriously though, she's super fun.
