Hello all. I'm debating on whether I should build this deck with just Yidris as the commander, or have him/her in the 99, and use something like child of alara and make it 5 color. I don't have a decklist, yet. Right now, I just want to see the pros/cons of adding white. Right now, the biggest pro is that white has a fair number of cyclers to add, and I get access to things like *** and restore balance. I'd like to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance
Yidris is very powerful, at least in my opinion. Every new 4 color commander did more then just add a bunch of colors fogether, they set very good mechanics and ways about building them.
With white there are some decent things you could add, but honestly you have so many options you'd probably lose out more on "swing, free cards!" Then you would with any of the fairly bland 5 color commanders.
Best thing about Yidris is he's just dumb. I've seen a lot of deck lists so far and honestly, for the first time, I've been sticking my nose up at most of these builds. A lot of people just throw random good stuff in there that would normally be too high a mana cost to add, and it still works beautifully.
Want to go stupid chaos? You can! Was the initial idea of it anyway (hence no white)
Want to go infinite easily? You can!
Want extra turns AND do something probably really good AS you cast that costly time warp variant? You can!
Storm because you hate mizzix weak spider body? Sure!!!
The thing with Yidris is if you let him go off.. he really goes off quick, even if storm wasn't the purpose. I think more importantly the psychology behind the pure satisfaction of being able to do twice as much as everyone else gives Yidris players a lot of joy playing him.
I'd say they did very good with all the commanders for this set, despite my initial concerns. No matter what the deck your building at this time short of dragons... looking at the 4 colors over 5 is probably a better idea at this point
Child of Alara likes to blow up the world, cascading into a wrath of god with maelstrom wanderer or Yidris in tbe 99 is bad...
Yidris is good on its own, like the above mentioned. Can be busted, storm, time walk, infinite attacks.
Or you can build it fun ala Possibility StormorUnexpected Results. Your call.
Haha, to directly answer your question though.... I originally used Saskia but decided blue gave me more options so I went with Ravos and Kraum. They both cover different roles. Kraum is a hastey beater with upside and Ravos gives me a boost and wins through attrition.both are good after a board wipe.
The biggest thing white gives you with respect to cycling is Astral Slide, which is a great card. That also helps get you around the problem of cascading into wraths with a valuable creature down mentioned a couple posts up.
I think I would still stick with Yidris. Having your general enable your strategy is worth more than the extra color in this case.

Thank you all for the thoughts and opinions. The other thing white gives me is Ardent Plea and Maelstrom Nexus. And, a few other cards. The nexus is cute, in that I don't have to attack to cascade. But, it's 5 mana.

Some minor tweaks still pending and I'll add the expertise's so I can cast the suspend cards from my hand. Hope this helps!
