Hey guys. Been a while since I've been in this area of town. But the new Yidris Commander has me all sorts of excited. I had a BUG deck I've piloted for a long time. But I feel it's time to bring some red in and change it up a little. So I'm looking at 3 new ideas. No storm decks ideas either. I've seen a bunch of people doing it, and it's just not my style.
Midrange Value. Have a deck full of 2 for ones or better. Kolaghan's Command, Shardless Agent, Mystic Confluence, Night's Whisper, Cultivate, etc. Would be sort of sweet to get a bunch of Cascade value. Would be decent in a 1 v 1 scenario but might struggle in multiplayer. But if Yidris hits it turns into 4 for 1.
Voltron. Yidris already having Tample really helps with this. But getting to Cascade into +1/+1 counter spells and Equipment followed up from additional turns/Combat steps. Most people wouldn't expect this I don't think.
Masters of Evil. Whiteless Planeswalker Control. This seems subpar to a 5 color or Atraxa, Praetor's Voice. Though being able to have an Evil Planeswalker deck seems like a fun time.
But these are the types of lists I've been brewing. I just can't decide which idea to stick to. Any ideas?
I've been thinking about Storm, tbh. A few cards to give him double strike, bunches of extra combat step cards, and Dream Halls or Omniscience. stack up like 6 cascade triggers per spell and just go nuts.
Pft, Tribal Man xD. Eldrazi Tribal xD. NO ONE sees that coming.
Eldrazi are easy to reduce the cost of (Eye of Ugin,Urza's Incubator, Cloud Key, Semblance Anvil, Herald of Kozi, ect.) So you can get a 7-8 cost dude for 2-4 mana easy, which cascades into more big dudes.
If you want to be cute, intersperse some extra turn spells that your Eldrazi can cascade in to

This aint your girlfriends meta! This is a man's meta! TURBO META.
My idea for Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder is to make a Living End deck. I think it would be a dedicated self-mill deck with a lot of one mana spells. The idea is that you fill the graveyard over the first 3 turns, then cast Yidris. Turn 5 you would want to cast a 1 mana spell and bring the whole graveyard back. 1 Mana spells that could work include all the ones that give a creature hexproof, like Ranger's Guile, Vines of Vastwood and the new one as they can double-up by helping him survive. There are also all the white protection spells.
Could be interesting, though I have no idea how to make it consistent.
Why does no one want to do coin-flip, random storm shenanigans with the value Ogre? I'm gonna try and finally make Chance Encounter happen. Yidris cascading into the random effect cards nullifies their inherent weakness of paying mana to do nothing. My take on Yidrizzle, at least.

Vorthos-player with way too much time on his hands and a love of thematic decks.
EDH - Yes, Each One is Named After a Song. I love tying music to my decks.

You are in the colors to run all the wheels, and if the effect you want goes into the graveyard, you can use Memory's Journey (suggested since it has flashback in case it gets wheeled into the graveyard too) to put it back in your deck.
I vote Voltron, mainly because this general requires hitting the opponent to trigger his effect, but as well make it hurt.
I'd be curious to see a midrange deck though. There was a 60 card deck my friend played that utilizes cascade to no end. It is a shame that Restore Balance cannot be used in this deck, but others still can.
I've been toying with voltron. Unless you're building a deck that only wants to trigger him once or twice, I think you will need some way to push damage through later in the game. So my deck runs good stuff to cascade with and into. Value spells and creatures generate card advantage and board presence. Think Maelstrom Wanderer with sweet black spells.
I think “midrange value” most closely describes the approach I would take. The ogre mage is insane value.
To hear a lot of comments on this guy and on the precon, I think it’s still not well understood how Cascade works. Speaking strategically, of course, not mechanically. I think if it were an on-hit effect that said “Whenever you cast a spell, draw a card” the builds we’d see would be totally different. The Cascade effect of draw a card, cast it for free though looks like it’s confusing peole.
What you want then is to cast as many spells per turn as possible. There is a reason that WOTC didn’t print any Cascade spells at 1cmc. Cascade at 1cmc is busted. Much more so spells that actually net you mana - rituals, busted mana rocks, tutors thereof, etc. Now, I’ll give everyone one guess at what deck type uses rituals and tutors on the point of casting as many spells as possible in a single turn.
You don’t need to play that deck, but you also won’t be disappointed with casting Dark Ritual in any build of Yidris (Ancestral Vision and Mana Crypt at minimum). Get one of the best cards in your deck, add 3 mana. Whatever you end up doing (Voltron probably works well, etc), you can borrow a few lessons from Storm and run a bunch of cheap spells and ways to generate more mana. End up burying the game in CA from one or two swings.

Add Sneak Attack. I already have Eureka,Show and Tell, Omniscience, and Oath of Druids to cheat on mana. Adding in Sneak Attack to cheat in some Hasty Emrakul, the Promised End, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, Dragonlord Atarka, and other beefcakes.
