Hey gang. Missed out buying the commander products from last year so im glad im around for it this year.
My lgs has a deal for $27 each on preorder or $125 for all 5. Im buying at least 2.
-Saskia the unyielding - for my lady. she uses Radha, heir to keld right now so this is right up her wheel house. We may even just turn both into one. We will see.
-Breya, Etherium Shaper- Seems really cool and i do not have an artifact centered commander yet. I also love the challenge of building an edh deck without green. Will be my first one to actually stay built lol
Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis just seems weird to me. like it wants to be group hug but not really. I'm not even sure how to evaluate it honestly so if people wanna help me out im totally cool with that.
I thought I was going to buy Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder but the deck they built around just seems wrong to me so I may just buy him and build around him with what I have for my Surrak Dragonclaw and go from there. Do people agree or am i evaluating it wrong?
What are some peoples thoughts on the decks or singles. What are you buying? Help me decide if im buying more than just 2 lol
Maybe selfless squire but I am not sure if it is better than Seht's Tiger in Dragonlord NOjutai flash/walker control, it probably is, just every now and then you Tiger to stop something like Wit's end on you. Although... with cards like Kor haven in the deck... it can grow.. I always forget it is whenever damage is prevented not just that turn.

Saskia- I like her, personally, but when compared to the others, she's very cut and dry. She wants a big, bad creature deck to do tone of damage. That's it. Creatures and damage. However, her colors and personal abilities make her REALLY good with this. She has access to some pretty good creatures like Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund, Atarka, World Render, Aurelia the Warleader, Utvara Hellkite and Gisela, Blade of Goldnight just to name a few who can do a lot of damage. Saskia, also gets access to a lot of good tutors to help get what she needs when she needs it. Her deck, to me, comes as okay if you don't have a lot of experience. It at least gives you enough stuff to start playing and experiment a little.
Honestly, though, I say if you know what you're doing, you could buy Saskis herself minus the deck and start building from scratch. As she's so straight forward that it's easy to personalize her and figure out what you want in the deck. What creatures we prefer for combat is a real personal choice and if you know what you're doing, it'll be quite easy to just make your own deck. Not to mention, that while her focus is narrow, Saskia's abilities allow you to go any route as long as you're doing combat damage. Her biggest downfall to me, is that it could be easy to get bored with her.
Breya- This is the one I pre-ordered. Breya has a lot of potential as an artifact commander and she's bringing the right colors. She has access to ALL the best tutors, draw power and the sheer efficiency of all the major artifact colors. Yes, she lacks G but she doesn't need it. Artifacts generate so much mana that it's not funny. Not to mention that we just came off a set that was full of artifacts. I could go on and on about her. Breya is a commander that you can highly customize to do a lot of things or at least work the way you want to.
Breya's deck, IMHO, is worth it, especially if you've not really gone into artifacts before. Breya's packing a lot of good stuff to start a deck with and a lot of stuff that is going to carry over as you personalize her and the deck to your liking. There's so much there that I don't think I can even do her justice.
Atraxa- She's one of those commanders that's powerful but not what I consider interesting. Despite all those keywords, her proliferate ability is her big claim to fame. She wants to deal in counters and if you're not taking advantage of that, then you're really not using her. She's very straight forward but very powerful. You can run superfriends, infect, voltron, and while all of that is nice, it's really do her one ability that just lets her get out of hand. It just kind of makes her feel a little mindless after a while.
If you decide to get her, I'd say get her deck because she brings a lot of good stuff to the table that you're going to keep and use. Atraxa's got a lot of good stuff for her ability to work with.
Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis- Yeah, don't like these two. At all. However, I can see why people would like them. K & T don't paint a target on themselves as they're giving everyone more stuff to work with. They're also the type that you can really build your own strategy around them. As such, I can't give that much of an evaluation with them. They just don't have enough of a focus for me to analyze comfortably.
I will say this: I think if you have a clear cut idea of what you want to do with them, just buy them as a single and start from scratch. However, go with the precon if you don't know what to do at all. It may not be the best, but it's a start and may point you in the right direction.
Yidris- This is the one I originally was going to go for but decided not to. Yidris' potential is incredible. To the point that I think he's probably the strongest general just by how much he can get done in a turn. One thing I'm going to say is that he's going to be highly reliant on evasion to get the most out of him. He's a 5/4 with trample. That power of 5 will get him through more often than not but that toughness of 4 will get him killed. Something to bump up his toughness or Darksteel Plate to make it a non-issue. You're also going to want redundancy in your card choices, that way you have a higher chance of hitting the cards you need on cascades. This also means that you're going to have pick your cards carefully.
With all that said: I don't think Yidris' precon does him any justice. It feels to spaced out, trying to do too many things. Yidris, if you ask me, needs a well though out deck. A deck that's go enough in it to be useful no matter what he hits on cascades. I'd say it be better to pick of Yidris himself and then start thinking about what you're really going to do with him. The precon just doesn't seem suited to him on a whole. Not to say there aren't some good cards, just that the deck itself doesn't do the commander justice, ya know?
I bought 2 sets. First one to keep together forever (I've collected the first 20 precons). Second one to disassemble for parts. All the new cards are going into my collection, although I'm not terribly excited about some of them. Enjoy sitting in a box forever, Ludevic.
The reprints I'll trade if I give a crap. More likely just give them away. probably see if my gf wants any of them before tossing them in the donation bin at my LGS.
At first I only planned on buying singles, Atraxa and Deepglow Skate mostly to upgrade my Angus superfriends to Atraxa superfriends. I also had a deck type in mind that I finally made after the Selfless Squirr got printed (Check out the Queen of the Hill thread in the EDH multiplayer deck section). Also, the flail seems good for my Xenagod deck, but testing should proof this.
Overall, since the partners are unplayably weak imo, this set does not bring that much intersting stuff for me. But as you said, i'm just one guy

The secret to enjoyable Commander games is not winning first, but losing last.
If my post has no tags, then i posted from my phone.
I'm picking up the Breya deck for sure. It already contains everything I wanted to pick up for Lazav, and I can easily sell off the rest of what I don't in order to break even or possibly turn a profit.
Only other card I want is Sylvan Reclamation for Saffi. Kinda want a Deepglow Skate, though I don't honestly think I'd try and run it myself.
I'm buying all five, but then I'm working towards a deck in every color combination, so I need either the 4C legends or the partners to make that happen.
Picked up all 5. I would have bought all the new stuff as singles otherwise, which typically runs somewhere in the $80-100 range. There are some solid reprints and some killer basic lands in there, so getting the set has some upside and involves a lot less bookkeeping.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
I am getting all five. We always buy a complete set of every Commander set and have since the first. The only exception is C14, when we bought two complete sets because our daughter wanted the red and blue ones for Christmas, and being mono-colored they could be broken down into parts for more decks.
Definitely building Kyanios and Tiro of Meletis and Atraxa, Praetors' Voice decks, but I am not sure about the others. I just built an Orzhov Enchantress deck with Daxos, so I'm not building Ravos or Tymna, who are my favorite partners. I do like Tana, though, so we will see how that works out. I wish, how I wish, that the Boros ones did not suck...
Buying all five. While the individual card value is high, I also still need some staples for colors I avoided in my meta. All five offer a host of decent cards to either increase the fun value and have collectors value.
My personal focus will be on atraxa for a counters matter deck. My wife wanted Saskia because she's a fan of metal plus doubling up damage or spreading the love fits. The other three are for future value and ideas.
The prices you found on, were great. Run with them

I'll think of something witty to put here later! - Famous last words, from every mtg player ever.
Always pick up a set, so I will have all five this year as well. That said, the ones I'd be work on improving are Atraxa and Breya, then on the partner generals.
thanks for the responses everyone ! Ive decided to brew breya and saskia for my lady, and buy yidris at another time when im ready to brew with him lol
Yidris is going to replace Intet for randomness. The lack of evasion might be a damper we will see. I preordered singles from tcgplayer, only 20 cards, rest I already have from past commander decks. Ash Barrens is one I want multiples of.

for my third one im thinking Atraxa, Praetors' Voice but im not sold on it.
