So only gotten a couple games in with Yidris, both of which his chaos value took over. Wheeling peoples sculped hands and dropping chaos like possibility storm puts games in our favour. I have a very light creature build and was wondering what creatures have been all-stars for everyone.
Can only think of
Mulldrifter
Coiling Oracle
Oracle of Mul Daya
The green enchantment creature plays lands of top
Shriekmaw...
...not too many. What good creatures has everyone else tried?
Also, Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir is great. I don’t think I’ve failed to land a hit with Yidris during any game where Teferi saw play.
On the topic of stuff like Possibility Storm though, I find that basically any discard is insane with Yidris. It’s almost guaranteed that you’ll be the fastest to recover while playing off the top. Sire of Insanity seems great, but also Notion Thief and Leovold, Emissary of Trest are the top-tier options that will reliably bury opponents once you can access Wheel of Fate.
Another one on that, Bow of Nylea has been great for me. First of all for putting back Wheel of Fate into the deck to cascade again with small cards, but also because Deathtouch makes the best of friends with Trample for making sure Yidris gets in. Must be blocked by 5 or more creatures, yes please.
I cannot beielve I missed Bow of Nylea for dumping cards back into the library. Playing out lightning bolts and getting lotus bloom ect. is insane. Im trying to veer away from storm builds. (too easy/cheesy) as I dont play competitive. So the priest ect cards dont really enthrall me. But discard is a huge part of the deck, going to find more room for that angle. Thinking of adding value frog as well for beef and draw/ ect.
I think Cavern Harpy may be an interesting card for this deck, enabling repeated 2 mana cascades as mana allows. Can also return Maelstrom Wanderer or the like to your hand for bigger cascades and ETBs. I'm sure I haven't fully considered it's uses yet but will be testing once I get my initial deck up and running.
So has anyone thought about that Waste Not in the precon list? How about adding Megrim, Lilliana's Caress, Spiteful Visions, Underworld Dreams, viseling/ebony owl netsuke etc. as kills.
Instead of extra combat steps, just worry about enabling the cascade. Use prophecy Avatars and delve to cheaply cascade.
"Get in there" with unblockable effects like: Rogue's Passage, Distorion Strike etc, (anything with rebound/flashback).
Think about it: once damage is dealt, your casted spells have cascade, why have a second combat step? To get more mana to cast spells/have spells that can recast?
They made the deck with wheel of fortune effects for a reason (and w/40 lands). Refresh the hands. You'll get more spells to cast.
As it is using a archeamancer/mnemonic wall + evacuation alone can give you an infinite stall - why worry about having creatures on the field.
My ultimate point : why keep trying to kill with creatures?

There are a ton of different ways he can be built. I am going the wheel route myself but it's definitely not the only or best thing you can do. I like it because the deck isn't totally reliant on Yidris getting through for combat damage. Obviously if you can string a few wheels together with Waste Not or the like out that's going to be pretty devastating.

My initial idea for Yidris was to start with Megrim, Waste Not, and Liliana's Caress, and focus the deck around discard. During my discard research on Gatherer, the only reliable discard cards I could find were the wheels. I reached the conclusion that if I wanted to focus on the the three previously mentioned cards and wheel effects, I would rather build a Nekusar, the Mindrazer deck because those three cards were not going to be seen often enough in a game to kill a table. I would also need the cards that dealt damage when an opponent drew cards as well.
Ignus is cool because it only costs a net of R per iteration and it cascades anything from 0-2cc (mana rocks, tutors, draw)
Aethersnipe similarly lets you cascade anything from 0-5cc while costing only 1UU per iteration.
Palinchron costs anywhere from 0 mana to 2UU net each iteration (cheaper if any of your lands tap for more than 1 mana or cost reduction effects are in play) and can cascade basically everything out of your deck.
Also, have any of you guys considered running Aluren combo? It needs exactly BRUG colors, synergizes with some of the same self-bouncing creatures that are good in Yidris, and lets you win even when you cannot get anywhere with your commander. You just need Aluren+Imperial Recruiter to win the game (undisrupted). The minimal deck slots needed to combo off are:
Other cards you can use for value: Grinning Ignus - infinite colorless mana Eternal Witness - recur anything/everything from GY Shardless Agent - cascade everything 0-2cc out of your deck Phantasmal Image - to cast and recast something you or opponent has even > 3cc
Considering the cards it needs overlap with cards you'd want to use with Yidris anyway, the combo is quite compact. I posted a list in the other Yidris thread that uses Aluren combo. Actually, for a competitive intent, it's much easier to go for Aluren as plan A instead of trying to cast and protect and connect with Yidris. However, later in the game (when disrupted), you can Yidris to start cascading things out of the deck for value.

The Mimeoplasm || Karador, Ghost Chieftain
Prossh, Skyraider of Kher || Vial Smasher/Tymna Group Slug
Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief || Talrand, Sky Summoner
Yidris - Unblockable Saboteurs || Kiki-Jiki, ETB breaker
Kess, Dissident Mage
Drake costs just U per cast to get all the 0cc stuff out of your deck (e.g. Lotus Bloom, Ancestral Vision).
