That's a fair point. Though, given how budget Wizards tends to keep the pre-con mana bases, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a good number of basics in each deck.
Welp. No more need for the Nephilims to be your 4CC commander of choice.
I was hoping Wizards would errata the Nephilims and make them the 4 color Commanders for the next set...
Unfortunately that would be functional errata and Wizards doesn't do functional errata anymore.

The community functionally errata'd those cards a decade ago. This would simply be Wizards accepting that age-old decision from before the time they decided to no longer do functional erratas.

This would simply be Wizards accepting that age-old decision from before the time they decided to no longer do functional erratas.
Some of the community house-ruled it. Big difference. From Wizard's perspective, they can't just errata cards without producing confusion. If your commander has to be legendary, but you pull out the old version of the Nephilim without Legendary, it would inevitably cause confusion. They made this decision years ago, when it was clear that the game was getting too big for everyone to remember errata for every card, so the best decision was to make cards do what they say they do no matter what happens.
The nephilim are probably going to be in this product, and you can still use your house rule to run them as a commander if your group is cool with it.
Does anyone else think a new cycle of 4-color lands is possible? Something like:
Shaded Chaparral
Land
When Shaded Chaparral enters the battlefield, it deals 3 damage to you.
T: Add W, R, B, or G to your mana pool.
They could print new multi-lands that don't ETB tapped, and it wouldn't have the worry of being bought out by Legacy players, since Legacy already has the superior ABUR duals.
I think there'll be at least something Command Tower-esque; some efficient multi-land designed just to make cheaper Commander manabases.
I'm wondering who's gonna head these decks.. if anyone's been going through the artifacts cycle books, in the second book, serra, in serra's realm, she removes all black magic from urza.. which means he's technically a 4c character. Here's to hoping that urza makes a comeback!
...or maybe its just me that likes what they did with the oldschool characters last precon
The nephilim are great because their abilities aren't attached to one color compared to another. Hopefully the legends can do that: have good abilities without a focus of "well, what can not-blue do?"

I think wizards will focus more of what the nephilims of those olors do to begin with and focus the deck and new generals to be similar.
For example, Not-white (Glint-eye Nephilim) will probably focus on bonuses for dealing damage and pumps.
This is great! I've been wanting this for so long.
Here's my wish list (there's actual reasoning and thought behind it but it's mostly just personal wants )
: I have RUG deck that is all about tap/untap. I would love it if the commander had or synergized with activated abilities. There are a few cards I would love to have access to like flying crane technique and jeskai ascendancy.
: My Alesha, Who Smiles at Death deck is my pride and joy. Green has so many utility creatures like Eternal Witness, Acidic Slime, and Qasali Pridemage, so the dream would be a creature with graveyard synergy. And since blue is the color with least number of creatures overall it would make sense for this guy to care about creatures in some regard. I could also see this deck just blowing up a lot of stuff since blue is the only color that doesnt really destroy outside of pongify effects.
: I would like to see at least one commander care about spells or at the very least noncreature spells. In eternal formats Storm decks are Grixis and you see green in Doomsday for fastbond, so thats kinda where my idea for this guy being the spell deck. Not to mention white has the most creatures so a deck without it caring for noncreatures would be flavorful (if thats the term). Is too much to ask to have a combo laden deck?
: This is probably the one I've put the least thought into and have the least interest in. Tokens or enchantments kinda come to mind when I think of with this combination.
I'm excited about this combination. Grixis, UW, UB, BW a lot of control variants in this combination. I wouldnt be surprised to see this be a very controling deck.
What i would love to see is a variation of Maelstrom wanderer with black. With an ability like, Cascade, creature spells played from your graveyard have cascade. Seems broken but its a dream of mine haha. Also i would love to see a Karn variation even though both of these ideas are extremely unlikely, having a colored karn would be so awesome imo as karn is my favorite general.
I can't wait for this commander set. I think it will be a more casual set of commander. There are a few things that I am hoping for and a few things I am expecting. If there are any rare lands that would get reprinted I think it would be the land from the BFZ and cards that allow us to tutor for a specific land to get those options. I wonder if they will reprint Chromatic Lantern for each deck. I would not be surprised if they make a fully erratad nephilim card for each one, but I would be happier if they decide to remake them with different powers and everything like that so each deck can have double the nephilim!
There are 2 things I really think are going to happen...
1. I do think that most of the commanders will be like the cards from Fate Reforged where the color identity is part of some sort of ability
2. I think we are going to see the reemergence of the sunburst mechanic. (Pentad Prism)
Very excited. 4C legends would be quite awesome.
Mana base will most likely be: 1 new land, a command tower, several common dual lands and a heaping amount of basics.
Also curious what other legends we will be getting in addition to them.
Personally prefer if the main 5 were something like WURG for the mana cost. Really easy 4-mana cycle.

Another poster here suggested that they might create an emblem-like card with text, "You may play a card named Dune-Brood Nephilim as your Commander," similar to the text on the PW-Commanders. I think it would be a very interesting way to get around functional errata.
How about creatures that cost, say, U/W G/B and have one ability that could be blue or white and one that could be green or black?
That would be pretty boring, IMHO. I don't just want "Chinese Menu" gold cards, I want to see totally unique and interesting effects. WotC is just stingy with creativity, sometimes; there are tons of interesting custom 4C legends posted on the forums here already, and plenty I've made myself. For example, I really want to see a UWGR legend that lets you tutor the deck for artifacts or enchantments and put them into play under no player's control (basically, it lets you search out global/symmetrical effects).
I would love to see UGBR deal with the stack. Something like this (this is probably really broken, but it would still be cool nonetheless):
Boaty McBoatface

Goblin Zombie Wizard
Flash
You may cast nonland cards with converted mana cost X or less as though they had flash, where X is the number of times that ~ has been cast from the command zone.
1BG,Tap: Until end of turn, you may play nonland cards with converted mana cost X or less from your graveyard, where X is the number of times that ~ has been cast from the command zone. Cards put into your graveyard this turn are exiled instead.

This seems pretty weak. At the very least, it should be 'X or less.' But in EDH, there just aren't a ton of game-changing one- and two-drops. By the time Boaty's letting you play 4-drops at instant speed, he's costing 12...
