I don't know if they're any good or not yet, because I haven't built the deck yet, but I put a lot of weird creatures I wouldn't have thought would be playable otherwise into a Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury draft list, like Warbringer.

I had a bunch of weak-ish (not necessarily garbage though) Legendary cards in my Reki, the History of Kamigawa deck. When everything cantrips, you can kind of start focusing more on having a decent curve that's not grossly top-heavy.
in fact i thing about any commander there is something you can find that is unique with him/her. for me that is on of the greatest arguments for playing commander.
That is one minor complaint I have with many of these suggestions.
Many of the commanders listed can play a lot of garbage cards, but any deck can. Fact is about half of these suggestions are simply good stuff commanders that can run anything because they're so powerful.
Odric, Lunarch Marshal has so far been a decent example of weird stuff that somehow works: Skyhunter Skirmisher, Sungrace Pegasus, Auriok Edgewright, Sword of Vengeance, Spidersilk Net... he and his keyword salad, dayumn.
Creatureless Keranos, God of Storms turns a lot of 'balanced creature hate' cards that are singularly janky, into something of 'impossible to keep around creatures at all' when you pair them with enough draw to get them up and no creatures of your own... Pendrell Mists, Overburden, Soul Barrier, Smoke, Sunken Hope, Meishin, the Mind Cage, Feroz's Ban, Meekstone, Dingus Staff, Burning Sands...
Jolrael, Empress of Beasts has Sylvan Advocate, Patron of the Orochi, Earth Surge... and of course The Great Aurora as quite possibly the weirdest sweeper possible.

Also, after you slot in thousand-year elixir and magewright's stone, I found threaten/act of treason effects to be hilariously playable. I mean, 3 mana for a heap of goblins is pretty good.
He also likes final fortune/last chance.
