Imo, experience is a very non-interactive mechanic that was very poorly thought through as it was developed. Once experience is accumulated, there is no way to mitigate - it's constant threat.
Imo, experience should have been consumable.
Consumable like energy?
Yes, energy is basically what I wish experience counters had been.
I guess it depends. Some resources aren't expended, but others are. Experience would seem to be a resource that isn't expended.
Note that you can simply hate an experience commander off the board repeatedly, ideally with some way to disrupt the Meren player's mana. It's hard to do, but it's better than the alternative. No different really than hating Kaalia of the Vast, really.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

There exist plenty of games in which you spend XP to improve your character, instead of reaching XP tiers for automatic improvement. Hell, some versions of D&D have you expending XP just to craft items.
