In case many of you haven't heard the news yet but Prophet of Kruphix has been banned from Commander. I for one think this is an extremely good decision and enables those playing against any U/G decks to be healthier gameplay. It came to the point to where if anyone was playing U/G in Commander, everyone has to play Prophet of Kruphix.
Prophet of Kruphix as one of the ninety-nine in a Commander deck doesn't seem all that imposing at first but once that card is slammed onto the field, the player with it just got a huge power boost. Prophet allowed the player to untap all their lands during each other players uncap step which essentially allowed them to flash in any number of creatures during an opponents turn and not only that but left up mana for counter spells as well. The ability to have mana constantly available during an opponents turn to use their mana to counter anything and then casually slip in a creature of their own. After the first players turn (assuming this is a larger playgroup) they get to rinse and repeat the processor which by the time it reaches that player who has played the Prophet, their board state could theoretically be many turns ahead of everyone else playing the game.
Prophet of Kruphix promoted unhealthy multiplayer Commander games and ever French games as well. I personally am extremely glad for this banning decision and allows the power balance for those playing in the colors of U/G to be more tame.
For everyone reading this thread, please comment below to what your thoughts on this recent ban has for your playgroups. Has Prophet of Kruphix disrupted gameplay for your playgroups? Has it made anyone who played Prophet an instant target among everyone? Or do you think that the banning of Prophet is unfair?
It will lead to longer, more interactive games and that is a good thing.
Dunno about longer games. Seems things will be quicker (time wise) without one player taking what amounts to a turn during each other player's turns....
Glad it is gone. It never really dominated my group but the rare time it came down basically everyone rolled their eyes and stopped caring about the game. It is one of the best two-way cards ever as it allowed you to advance your board state while allowing you to react to anything that gets thrown at you. Often times it was like 4 time walks in a row which is well... annoying.
